In the Mix

black-and-white-bags

With the exception of the Big Bad Blue Jays tearing through the Rangers, I approve of pretty much everything that has gone down in the playoffs so far. Sure, I didn’t want the Mets to lose but I’d like to see the Cubs and Indians in the Whirled Serious anyway so that was okay. Seeing the Sox go out in three straight is about as sweet as it gets. Ortiz standing there with the bat on his shoulder in his final home at bat, not even able to get anything worth have a shit to swing at, goodbye forever, please never come back you very much. Good riddance Cookie.

Loved the Cubs beating the Giants and the Dodgers-Nats series has been fun. I thought Kershaw was terrific yesterday. His final line wasn’t sparkling but he showed a lot of smarts and even more guts. Watching him in the seventh, when he broke off an unfair breaking pitch, I thought—this guy is an artist. And yeah, it ended on a down note, but Kershaw vs. Harper was great entertainment and Harper put together an incredibly tough AB.

Game Five tomorrow. Let’s Go Base-ball.

Nice round up Alex.

I concur with everything you wrote except about the Jays. The Team is due. The fans are due. Canada is due. I don't think those are especially good reasons to want them to win, but I hate Texas (the state and state of mind, for no logical reasons), and if tribalism is worth anything I'd rather pull for an AL East team (excluding the Shit Sox of course).

My NL team is supposed to be the Giants, as I was born in the city and my mother loved it, and the old man used to know Willie Mays, so we had box seats at Candle Stick (but I don't remember being there).

Anyway, I could not get behind these Giants. The Cubs are too exciting. That game was one for the ages. Beautiful come back, with our man Chapman closing it out like a monster. Is he cool or what?

2 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2016 4:50 am

Interesting.
Canada is kind of the anti-Texas. Well, except they're both big.

I once saw a game at Candlestick. I don't remember the game at all but I remember the park. I was in San Francisco in the summer with two guys I knew, Mike and Eric, staying at Mike's aunt's apartment. All three of us were nerds in our teens, in San Francisco. In the '70s.
Man, that was a long time ago.

I'm also completely behind the Cubs, but for probably a bad reason. I'm just thinking of the all-winter-long teeth gnashing around here if having been swept by Tito Francona the Sox get to watch Theo Epstein be deified. John Farrell and Dave Dombrowski. Hee-hee.

So, Bob Dylan?

4 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Oct 13, 2016 10:38 am

[3] Yes, Bob Dylan. Hard to argue that he is the foremost poet of music since around 1960. Kind of wonder if any other lyracist/poet ever got the Nobel.

5 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Oct 13, 2016 10:43 am

And of course, we're hopped up for the Nats. Are they going, finally, to break through to the league championship series after twice before failing to win the prior series? Hopeful signs: Max on the mound, Danny hitting like crazy, Trea showing he's a potential All-Star, Worth playing just like the the playoff pro he is, the bull-pen almost (not quite) lights out. OTOH, haven't seen much from Harper and Espinoza is an automatic out. Go Dusty!

6 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2016 11:15 am

[4] Many (many, many) poets, but no lyricists till now.

7 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2016 12:42 pm

Let's see...

Happy Giants over Muts.

THRILLED Shit Sox got swept. Fuck Fat Liar straight to hell. Good riddance you Big Babi.

Really wanted the Giants to win. Sigh. I'm cool with the Cubs now...

Don't care for either LA or Nats, but would prefer Wash to win. I dig Werth.

Would like a Cubs-Tribe series. I'm fine with Chitown taking the trophy...

8 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2016 12:44 pm

[3] WOW and WAHOO!!! I'm a *huge* Dylan fan and, as a lyricist myself, highly influenced and inspired by Bob. This honor is awesome and well-deserved : )

9 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2016 12:45 pm

[2] I saw a game at Pac Bell Park about bakers dozen years ago while on tour. Loved it!

[6] till? I'm surprised.

10 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2016 1:37 pm

Uh, really? It's just a standard word of English.

He would fight; yea, From morne till night (Love's Labor Lost)
Let no man leaue of it till the morning. (KJV, Exodus)
She doubted if the woman would live till morning. (Sir Walter Scott)

Were you thinking it seemed archaic?

11 thelarmis   ~  Oct 13, 2016 1:47 pm

[10] I was thinking "tilling" the land. I thought it had to be 'til. No?

12 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 13, 2016 2:05 pm

[10] Happy Sarcasm Day, RI >;)

13 RIYank   ~  Oct 13, 2016 2:42 pm

[11] No.
[12] Hey, every day is Sarcasm Day!

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 14, 2016 8:35 pm

In a just world we would not be stuck with Billy Ripken right after Timmy's retirement. Howdy, gang. I see Thor retired below. Go Indians!

46 thelarmis   ~  Oct 14, 2016 9:33 pm

regardless of anything, laz diaz fucking sucks as an umpire and shouldn't be on a playoff squad, let alone behind home plate. he shouldn't even be in mlb...

91 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2016 9:15 pm

Ah, struck him out anyhow. Kershaw picking up his catcher. (Not literally.)

92 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2016 9:18 pm

Kershaw talks his way into staying in to face Baez. (Not Joan)

93 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2016 9:19 pm

Claw a little squeezed on the first pitch. baez hits it to the warning track in dead center. 7 shutout innings for the best pitcher on the planet.

94 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2016 9:31 pm

Kenley on for the 6-out save. Puig in the field.
