The Other Guys

FullSizeRender

The Sox are in town for a 3-game series on a damp week in New York. Most the the citizens I’ve encountered lately are cranky that we’re in June but it still feels like April out there. I’m pleased that there has been plenty of water at least. The green is brilliant in these long days.

Yanks hold a 2 game lead over the Sox.

Our man Masahiro gets he nod in the opener. That is usually a good thing. But he’s been so inconsistent these days you don’t know what to expect. Here’s hoping he works it out and has a good outing.

Never mind the footsteps:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Ugh, first two on.

And now a run.

2 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:14 pm

This isn't going as I'd hoped.

3 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:17 pm

At least it's only one

4 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:17 pm

Okay, well.

5 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:19 pm

Only 9 pitches, good enough.
Sanchez batting 2nd?

6 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:27 pm

Crud.
That strike zone is wide, on both sides of the plate. I hope Mats gets those calls.

7 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:27 pm

Blegh, 3 Ks

8 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:27 pm

[5] Yeah.
It's not crazy.

9 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:37 pm

Wow, very nice inning.

10 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:41 pm

Much better

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:43 pm

Good, I think we'll need free base runners.
Now,

NO PLAYS.

12 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:46 pm

Tied up!

13 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:46 pm

Hey, cool!

I ACCEPT THAT GIFT RUN!

(Also, very nice job by Hicks, very nice running.)

14 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:47 pm

Didi and Hicksy..a good combo!

15 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:48 pm

Did you guys hear Cone say the other day that over the past decade, the most productive overall base runner in all of MLB, according to Cone's fancy SABRmetrics, has been...
Brett Gardner?

I was very surprised, to say the least.

15 Really? I would not have expected that..

Headley is really off..

17 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:51 pm

Man, I was about 98% sure he was going to K. Yuck.

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:52 pm

[16] I know, because he can't steal bases.
But, it turns out he has a very high percentage in stealing attempts, something like 80%, so that's a positive, and he goes first-to-third better than almost anyone.

19 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:52 pm

Oh, come on! Argh. He ripped it, anyway.

20 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:54 pm

19 Contact is appreciated!
2 innings done in an hour..

21 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:56 pm

Naomi Campell and financial fraudster Michael Milken?? Huh????

22 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 6:58 pm

Our Hiro is back!

23 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:05 pm

Boo, I want to see Judge mash, not walk

24 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:06 pm

When I'm into a baseball game, there really isn't anybody I want to hear more than Naomi Campbell and Michael Milken. I mean, nothing says 'Yankee baseball' like a global supermodel and a financial arch criminal.

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:14 pm

24 She was obviously un-thrilled to be there!
Commuting time, hope John and Suzyn are in good form today...

26 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:16 pm

Had to step away for a minute, what happened?

27 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:17 pm

Shit. MRI time

28 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:17 pm

Sigh.

29 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:33 pm

Good job, fan

30 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:35 pm

Safe!

31 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:37 pm

A Headley strikeout wouldn't be the worst thing

32 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:42 pm

That is

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:46 pm

Dreadly...

34 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:49 pm

Oy

35 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:50 pm

I don't get it...two outs, two strikes, and Tanaka throws a cookie to Betintendi (sp).

36 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 7:53 pm

Yay for Carter

37 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:00 pm

A mere double.

38 RIYank   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:05 pm

Ooph.
Matt Holliday, ladies and gentlemen.

39 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:05 pm

Hope the Boston bullpen sucks

40 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:29 pm

Less than optimal

41 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:45 pm

Come on Gary cash in that walk.

42 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 8:53 pm

Crap

43 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:20 pm

I'll accept that free run

44 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:23 pm

what's with the weird ape like stance before he pitches? and what's all that powder on his cap brim?

45 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:27 pm

[44] he's a Sawx so he has to be a douche. I'm not saying it's cocaine . . .

46 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:28 pm

i can't remember ever seeing anyone swing at a ball that far up and in. and a 100 mph fastball. my god. at least we got through his spot for the 9th.

47 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:30 pm

why isn't betances pitching???

48 51cq24   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:36 pm

we have our matchup lefty pitching against righties with a man on 2nd in the 9th inning of a 1 run game. what the hell is going on?

49 rbj   ~  Jun 6, 2017 9:44 pm

At least make Craig work

50 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Jun 7, 2017 11:05 am

Over at River Ave Blues, it's suggested that we need to give Tanaka some time off to fix mechanics. Makes sense to me, since he's been giving up HR's like Halloween candy in October.
