The Long and Short of It

A 6-1 lead turned into homina-homina-homina in the 9th inning when Dellin Betances was wobbly as Hell. C.C. pitched well and then threw a snit after the game. Touchy-touchy, Big Fella:

“It’s not that it’s out of bounds, I guess,” Sabathia said. “That’s just me. It doesn’t matter who is bunting or who I’m playing. I get pissed when people bunt, period. You’re going to get a reaction out of me. Everybody knows that. And they got the reaction. We could be playing a Little League game. If my son bunts on me, I’m going to cuss him out. That’s just me. So it is what it is. I’ve always been like that. This is nothing new, and I think a lot of people know that.”

Gary Sanchez homered and Greg Bird had a big knock, and the Yanks hung on for a big 6-2 win.

More tonight. It is bright and cool—playoff weather a month early.

Sonny Gray on the bump.

Never mind the standings:

Let’s Go Yank-ees!

11 rbj   ~  Sep 1, 2017 8:35 pm

Gawd, what a pathetic offense

12 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 12:08 pm

OK, let's try this again.

13 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 12:44 pm

Headley!

14 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 12:44 pm

There's our token 1-run for the day.

Lotsa pitches for Masa in the 1st.

It seems that every time MLBN airs Yanks-Shit Sox, they have the NESN feed. Exceedingly uncool.

15 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 12:55 pm

Rats

16 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 12:58 pm

Oops, I had my pitch count/innings messed up...

Needed more than 1 run last inning.

17 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 1:41 pm

Can we get Tanaka some more runs?

18 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 1:53 pm

Fuckin Nunez. Damn him.

Our offense is fucking pathetic.

19 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 1:59 pm

Wonderful. Good job.

Now, let the floodgates open and lose 17-1.

Embarrassing.

20 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:00 pm

At this point the team doesn't deserve to be in the post season.

21 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:01 pm

Nice, Didi.

22 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:02 pm

Don't worry, they won't make it there.

23 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:03 pm

Oh, good. Chapman will be the first in. At least one team will end up scoring runs...

24 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:05 pm

Sitting in Queens. Nice and quiet finally. Ahhhhhhhh.....Go Yankees!

25 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:10 pm

First and third, no outs, how will the Yankees not score this time?

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:10 pm

Good hit. Good baserunning.

27 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:11 pm

Hell yeah! Take that RBJ. Lol...

28 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:11 pm

Happy Holliday!

29 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:11 pm

Didi works the rare walk. Bullshit ball 1 call against Headley. Seriously, that ump fucked up bad. Chase comes back with his 3rd hit of the day.

Holliday: first pitch - Earl Weaver special!!!

30 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:11 pm

Damn rally killers.

31 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:11 pm

I have no problem being wrong here.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:12 pm

That was a bomb.

33 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:26 pm

Wait. Is Hicks hurt? I'm practicing now, but see rbj is in CF.

34 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:30 pm

Well, hell yeah. Went to go get a headphone extension and saw the leadoff triple. I love the sloppy play by the shit sox.

35 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:30 pm

I'll take that as a hit and an rbi

36 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 2:32 pm

What are you looking at???

Judge hearing some boos.

37 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 3:05 pm

One down

38 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 3:06 pm

Two down

39 rbj   ~  Sep 2, 2017 3:08 pm

Three down! Happy rest of Saturday, everyone.

40 thelarmis   ~  Sep 2, 2017 3:14 pm

Left oblique tightness for Hicks. Must've happened on that catch when he stretched, then winced. Let's hope it's not as bad as the right oblique he recently hurt...

I have not been such an attentive Yankee fan this year, but I was at the game this afternoon (with son, brother, nephew). Excellent game, played with alacrity and, in the home team's case, effectiveness.
