Game Six

The Yanks got four runs off Justin Verlander in the first and that’s all they’d get but it was enough as our boys pushed the series back to Houston tonight for Game Six.

Win or go home. You know the drill.

Never mind the odds:

Let’s Go Yankees!

Elimination Game #2.

2 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 5:09 pm

Just win tonight!

3 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 5:58 pm

I predict we'll need at least 7 runs to win this game. Ain't no way Green, Cessa, Happ, Ottavano, Lasgna, most of whom will take part in trying to complete 5 innings, will keep Houston under 6 runs.

4 RIYank   ~  Oct 19, 2019 6:16 pm

The Astros used an 'opener' four times this year. They were 0-4 with a 6.25 ERA.
I am cautiously optimistic!

[1] Come back with your shields or on them, boys.

6 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 19, 2019 6:56 pm

As an intermittent poster/lurker I’ve been grateful for the company this week!

Tonight I am a cliche come to life: That Guy who is recording the game and running home from a concert hall hoping no one mentions the score. So I’ll catch you all back here in real time for Game Seven!

[5] They shall march on a road of bones.

7 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:05 pm

[4] Sounds good to me - so the Astros are terrible in bullpen games, then. Let's see about making it 0-5 with a higher ERA!

8 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:12 pm

Well that fucking sucked.

9 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:15 pm

SEVEN pitches??
Let’s go Green!!

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:20 pm

Rats. Little Fucker!

11 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:27 pm

Already at 20 pitches

12 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:27 pm

At this rate Chad is only going for one inning. At best.

19 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:32 pm

Well, that was suboptimal.

20 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:33 pm

Lots of 3 run hrs this series

Nice, Didi.

27 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:38 pm

Good. Now, tie it the fuck up

32 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:47 pm

Fuck you, Blue.

33 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:48 pm

INSIDE! Fuck off ump

34 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:48 pm

Ump has made at least 6 dubious calls already.

35 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:49 pm

Goddamn bullshit ump

36 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:49 pm

Jesus Fucking Christ!!!!!!!!!!!

37 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:49 pm

FIRE THAT UMP!!! WTF???

38 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:50 pm

Fucking AWFUL calls there!!

39 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:50 pm

Well that was not a strike.

Positive: Bottom of the order is waking up.

40 knuckles   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:50 pm

Fuck you blue.

41 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:52 pm

HAPPy birthday, Jay

42 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:53 pm

Modern baseball is such garbage. Elimination game and they have to use HAPP in the second inning??

43 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:54 pm

Oh, my god. Happ? Where are my prayer beads?

44 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:54 pm

Happ needs to keep it here and give us length. Birthday boy can do it!

45 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:55 pm

No Chirinos? That's weird.

46 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:56 pm

Why isn’t that strike? Oh, because it’s a Yankee pitcher

47 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:57 pm

[45] he’s been getting really beat up behind the dish. 4 games in a row, late arrival.

48 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:57 pm

So this ump calls balls strikes and strikes balls. Something we can use?

49 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:58 pm

5.40 ERA pitchers usually don't get the benefit of the doubt. Sad state of affairs that in an elimination game we trot out a non-starter followed up by our worst actual starter. What happened to the idea that you play to win today's game. If that's true Severino would have been the starter.

50 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 7:58 pm

We can use a robot ump!

51 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:01 pm

[49] lotsa good stuff in there. Yeah, you have to GET to game 7 first. Sevy would be the better bet. But, we do have an excellent pen, though they’re overused and we should be able to beat their pen. At this point, we just need to fucking WIN!!!

52 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:03 pm

So the Yankees had 6 1,2.3 innings last night. Oi! There offense is well rested. Get 'r done!

53 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:06 pm

[50] I picture a time in the future, players smashing the shit out of a robot ump with their bats.

54 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:08 pm

How can you let that pitch go?

55 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:09 pm

Ok, kid. Pretend it’s Game 1 again!

56 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:14 pm

Shit, Judge should’ve been running on the play.

Great job by Gleyber

57 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:14 pm

Judge get a bad read? Oi!

58 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:15 pm

Crap. That would’ve scored Judge...

59 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:16 pm

Come on, EE.

60 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:17 pm

Who’s the supermodel in Cashman’s booth?!?! : o

61 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:19 pm

Love me some Didi! You can do it!

62 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:21 pm

Come on Sir Didi!

63 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:22 pm

66 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Take a goddamn fucking pitch. Jesus.

67 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Modammit.

68 knuckles   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Take a fuckin pitch sometime, Didi...

69 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Didi won't be back next year so there's that

70 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Nobody can get an important hit. Nobody. Wasted chances time and again. Brutal.

71 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:23 pm

Suboptimal. Take a goddamn pitch FFS.

72 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:27 pm

This team is just dumb from management down. Anybody thinking Green was going to effective hasn't been listening to Correa's post game interviews. Green is good when you play different opponents every few days because he's as basic a pitcher, err thrower, as it gets.

73 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:27 pm

Lead off walk. Solid!

74 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:28 pm

Swing at the first pitch, then give up a leadoff walk. I guess these guys are ready to go home for winter

75 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:30 pm

They at least got the maximum number of home dates one could have expected so that should please Hal.

76 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:30 pm

Let's try some positivity, guys. Please.

77 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:32 pm

Happ will get the DP here

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:33 pm

Does Bregman get 12 abs a game? Cripes!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:34 pm

Gah. What a shit at bat from Didi.

And Pressley reminds me of this guy from Star Wars:

[60] LOL, you and your blondes ...

81 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:36 pm

I still wish Judge had been running on the 3-2 pitches. This would be a 1-run ballgame right now

82 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:36 pm

Way to get out of it

83 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:36 pm

Happ for another?

84 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:37 pm

Yes!

85 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:37 pm

[80] yup! : )

Jomboy, of course, has a tweet about that shot up now.

86 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:37 pm

[83] yes, please

87 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:37 pm

Thank goodness. Happ may need to go 1 more. Egads! Let's score some friggin' runs ffs!

88 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:38 pm

[60] Here's a joke from the BBTF game thread:

"That was Cashmans personal sabermatrician. She always has great figures."

89 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:39 pm

Happ for as long as possible. Then... I don't know. Matchup dictates I guess.

90 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:40 pm

[88] nice! And, a lot nicer than the comments on twitter

91 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:41 pm

We need to destroy this pitcher. Become savages again

92 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:41 pm

[88] Ba dum dum.

93 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:41 pm

Goddamnit Gary

94 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:41 pm

We need a "Savages" rant on this ump.

95 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:42 pm

GO GO GIO POWER!!!

96 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:42 pm

Should be a tie game...

I'm a most happy fella.

C'mon, DJLM!

This ump is a DISGRACE

110 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:47 pm

Worst Fucking ump of the series. Fucking tragic. Wake up, douchebag!

111 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:47 pm

Loud out. But, an out...

112 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:47 pm

Damn unjuiced ball

113 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:47 pm

Juuuuuust missed it.

114 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:48 pm

Judge needs to rise and rule right here and now. Gavel time

115 knuckles   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:48 pm

They’re tagging him. Just not in fair territory or the wrong part of the outfield.

116 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:48 pm

I guess Jduge wasn't looking at the DJ AB

117 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:48 pm

[108] Let's hope he has a panic attack.

118 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:49 pm

Fucking terrible

119 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:49 pm

There will be more runs scored in this game. By both teams.

120 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:50 pm

[116] seriously. That first pitch outside offspeed was so obvious

121 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:50 pm

Happ or Cessa? Need to squeeze 1 more from JA.

122 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:53 pm

Hey they ump missed a strike. And squeezes a 3rd. Unfuckingreal.

123 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:54 pm

Gold Glove Gio

124 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:55 pm

125 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:55 pm

If Urshela never gets another hit, he's been worth his weight in gold.

126 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:55 pm

It would be nice to know what the logic is not using Happ in a long relief role when he is pitching fine. Does his stretchiness vanish when he's used as a reliever?

127 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:56 pm

[126] He can pitch tomorrow?

128 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:57 pm

13 pitchers on the roster and we see Happ then Cessa in an elimination game? What kind of logic is this

129 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:57 pm

Happ didn’t even go through the order one time

130 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:57 pm

Gio is one slick fielder.

131 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:57 pm

[127] has he ever pitched on back to back days?

132 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:58 pm

[127] I would hope they use Tanaka instead, or even Paxton, if tomorrow happens.

133 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 8:59 pm

Cart before horse, y'all ! Lol...

134 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:00 pm

Sit EE and bring in Stanton.

155 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:10 pm

Stanton could’ve done that

156 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:11 pm

Time for toast. You have breakfast, Jazz.

157 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:12 pm

Doesn't make sense. Neither EE nor Stanton are hitting, but only one will be back next year. Naturally we bench that one in the biggest game of the year.

158 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:14 pm

Nice foot work, Gary. Ugh.

159 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:14 pm

167 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:20 pm

Thanks goodness the ump is not giving the Yankees the same leeway as stros pitchers. Keeps things extra ezciting. Double play!

168 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:23 pm

Zero pressure on stros pitching. ZERO.

169 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:23 pm

179 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:33 pm

These 1st pitch dribblers and pop outs throughout the series has to be 10 or more.

180 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:33 pm

I think I'd rather the Astros get 10 runs so we can put an end to this slow death march

186 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:36 pm

Active reaching is 100%

187 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:37 pm

So Tommy Tightpants, then Britton. The Unknown Comic. El Chappo?

188 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:37 pm

I think maybe they should DH Romine

189 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:38 pm

Third day in a row for Kahnle

190 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:38 pm

Give 'em hell, Tommy.

191 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:39 pm

Fail. If the ump who sucks gets in Kahlne's head of rocks this inning is fucked.

192 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:40 pm

Here comes the end of our season

193 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:42 pm

Boone does know it's the 6th right? Can't give up runs like that

194 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:42 pm

Lead off walk, ERGH!

195 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:43 pm

Now we need two solo homers

196 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:45 pm

They can't even get productive outs.

197 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:46 pm

We should have played the infield in and got the little fucker at home. Since he was back, DD should not have looked at home and we would’ve had a double play

198 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:46 pm

That was a strike

199 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:46 pm

That's a Fucking strike!

200 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:46 pm

Jeebus Farking Christabol Blue, that was a strike!

Here comes the 3 run job.

206 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:53 pm

One more strike here please

207 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:53 pm

Phew!

Still alive

211 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:55 pm

Hot damn! Yikes! Now can the O not look like complete and utter horseshit!?

212 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:55 pm

I will throw something at the TV if the first batter swings at the first pitch

213 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:57 pm

TV still functional, unfortunately.

214 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:58 pm

Eat Fucking shit, blue. You are a goddamn disgrace!

215 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 9:59 pm

I think Zero will put up a zero!

218 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:00 pm

More first pitch swinging. Where are the savages?

219 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:01 pm

Wait. The pitch in the dirt wasn’t called a strike?

220 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:01 pm

It is unbelievable to me that everybody swings at the first pitch.

221 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:02 pm

[218] they’re still in the BrOnX

222 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:03 pm

Wait to lay off that one

223 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:03 pm

225 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:05 pm

229 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:05 pm

That’s two base running blunders by the best base runner on the team

230 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:05 pm

Britton and Chapman for the next 3?

231 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:06 pm

Judge didn’t run earlier when he should have, then ran when he shouldn’t have

232 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:06 pm

This series should already be over. How is it game six when we cant pitch, hit or field while the Astros are able to do all three?

233 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:08 pm

[232] Don't forget run

234 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:08 pm

235 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:08 pm

Ottavino, really?

236 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:09 pm

Oddly, I think Otto is gonna be fine here

237 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:10 pm

Watch out for the bunt

238 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:11 pm

239 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:11 pm

Judge definitely fucked that up.

240 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:11 pm

It looked like Judge was doing a cha-cha out there.

241 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:13 pm

Judge should have been about 2/3rd and wait to see if it was caught.

242 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:13 pm

Nice catch, Gary

243 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:14 pm

For the love of CC...tighten this shit up! Hold them, come back, and fucking WIN

244 knuckles   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:15 pm

Damn. Judge needs to stop sitting near Gary on the bench.

245 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:15 pm

What is this the Trop?

246 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:17 pm

I like Otto and believe in him. That was good.

247 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:17 pm

Ok, Ottavino got 3 outs, now we need 3 runs!

248 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:17 pm

[245] juice bowl

249 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:17 pm

EE, Gary, and Didi. Sounds like runs!

250 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:17 pm

OK. Two more chances.

251 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:18 pm

[238] I certainly would. EE was on deck last inning though. Maybe Boone knows something about Stanton we don’t...

252 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:19 pm

If Stanton is hurt then shouldn't they replace him with Ford or Cout?

253 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:20 pm

Voit I meamt

254 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:20 pm

No G- Force

255 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:20 pm

Time for a rally snus. And I might as well get the fidget spinner going, too

256 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:21 pm

[253] at this point, I think Cout is our best option! ; )

257 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:21 pm

Why not Maybin? Shit.

258 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:21 pm

Is Maybin hurt? I don't understand why EE continues to be allowed to hit

259 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:22 pm

“Gregorius takes a ball” - my hearing isn’t very good. Did I hear that right?

Nice hit!

260 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:22 pm

When was the last time Gary was scary? With a bat that is.

261 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:22 pm

Ridiculous call

262 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:23 pm

[258] his wrist isn’t great, but he’s not injured. Great call! I’d totally rather have him at DH.

Another awful call

263 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:23 pm

What is he looking for?

264 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:24 pm

Was that a make up ball?

265 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:25 pm

Fuck!

266 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:25 pm

holy fuck. That was ridiculous

267 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:25 pm

It ain't gonna happen. Shit.

268 rbj   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:25 pm

Now Joe Buck complains about the home plate ump? Fuck you, Joe.

269 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:26 pm

Houston playing like a champion. We are not. That's pretty much all there needs to be said.

270 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:27 pm

Good work, Gary. This team can't Fucking do anything right and it's game Fucking 6 vs. The "best" team in baseball. Goddamn Fucking Bollocks!

271 Greg G   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:30 pm

Never underestimate the heart of a champion. Come on savages!

272 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:31 pm

Houston’s offense hasn’t been great. We’ve been beating ourselves a lot. This sucks

273 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:31 pm

This would be sooo much better if it comes down to Sevy and Cole in Game 7.

274 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:33 pm

From our old friend Cliff:

The Yankees have had the tying run or better at the plate 20 times in this game. That’s not an exaggeration.

275 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:33 pm

Yes! A walk! The fewer strikes the better!

276 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:36 pm

Gritner, DJ, Judge due up.

277 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:36 pm

Don’t allow another fucking run!

278 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:36 pm

Umm Chapman?

279 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:37 pm

Don’t let CC’s baseball career end tonight

280 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:38 pm

NO passed ball/wild pitch

281 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:38 pm

Of course the appeal goes Houston’s way

282 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:38 pm

That appeal call on Didi yesterday was disgusting

283 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:39 pm

Britton has this.

thelarmis, 20 times?! That's insane. They really gotta execute at the plate in the 9th...

284 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:39 pm

Walk everybody!

285 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:40 pm

Another walk or passed ball.

286 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:40 pm

That would’ve been called strike 3 if a Yankee batter were at the plate

287 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:40 pm

Why is Chapman not in this game? For fuck sake.

288 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:40 pm

Grinding teeth.

289 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:41 pm

[283] yeah. This is on our hitters

290 Shaun P.   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:41 pm

I feel calm. Britton is getting the third out.

291 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:41 pm

thealarmis, no shit

292 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:42 pm

I just copied Cliff’s tweet. I trust him implicitly. Crazy data

293 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:42 pm

He is going to walk in a run. Unreal

294 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:43 pm

He sooo went. WHAT THE FUCK???

295 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:43 pm

Jesus Fucking Christ!!!!!$

296 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:43 pm

Now or never.

298 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:44 pm

299 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 10:44 pm

362 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:18 pm

Marisnick was on deck. Shouldn’t have pitched to him

363 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:18 pm

Stupid walks all freaking day

364 knuckles   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:18 pm

Jeebus. That was an awful series top to bottom.

365 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:19 pm

[362] Good point

366 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:28 pm

The first question to Boone should be: why pitch to Altuve with Marisnik on deck. Then follow it up with: ok, that answer sucked. Tell us something different

367 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:35 pm

Boone doesn't think. He just does. What the binder says.

368 yankintexas   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:36 pm

But to be fair, that would have pushed Springer to scoring position.

369 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:37 pm

It would have. But, still: Altuve or Marisnik?

Go Nats

370 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:38 pm

[366] That puts the winning run on 2nd w/2 out. It would have been a dangerous move. Chappy blew it. Altuve is a high ball hitter. He doesn't have much power going to the opposite field. Chappy should have been going low and away.

371 thelarmis   ~  Oct 19, 2019 11:41 pm

It all sucks

372 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 20, 2019 8:23 am

That cement mixer slider is one we won’t soon forget. Lousy way to end a rousing year.

Admittedly, I didn’t listen to the announcers much. Thankfully, the crowd noise often made it difficult to hear Smoltz. What I didn’t hear was how the Yanks not only were able to achieve so much in a year where 30 players went on the IL, but our arguably most effective starter German, beat up his girlfriend and was not able to pitch in the playoffs.

The Yanks did an amazing job of holding down so many of the Astros players.

It was sad that Encarnacion was a non factor. He, Sanchez and Stanton were too rusty to be effective due to little to no playing time prior. Hicks managed to shake off some of the rust and he played good D. Sanchez seemed to regress and couldn’t corral a lot of the pitches he handled well during the year.

I’m disappointed but considering all they overcame this year, to get to Game 6 of the ALCS, is something to be proud of.

Let’s back up the $ truck for Cole and at a minimum, make whoever signs him, if not the Yanks, pays him a hunk a chunk of money.

374 yankintexas   ~  Oct 20, 2019 5:18 pm

Even if we were to get Cole, it won't matter if we don't also change the way we deploy the bullpen.

We lost game 6 partly because in game 5 Verlander allowed Hinch to rest his pen despite a losing effort. Had this been Boone, and [insert any Yankee starter] gave up 4 runs in the first they never would have been allowed to pitch deep into the game. We win game 5 yet still use more pitchers than Houston, including Kahlne and Britton, both of which didn't pitch well in game 6. Now you could argue Boone was just trying to win game 5 at any cost but that argument doesn't hold water in game 6 when Boone held back Severino, Tanaka, didn't use Chapman, earlier in a game, forgot he had a bench, all of this in a game that was equally do or die as game 5. In a nutshell we lost because Houston not only had better pitching but also a far better manager.

375 Greg G   ~  Oct 21, 2019 2:45 pm

I think Boone was in a no win situation. If he leaves in a starter too long, everyone says "look at your bullpen." If he takes a starter out and the BP fails, he has to deal with that too. To me this was more about pitch selection and again, why not go after Marisnick as was pointed out above and by the broadcasters?

I don't think anyone would have guessed that Otto would continually shit himself.

The rain out certainly changed the calculus. But, I was upset that Chapman came in too early in Game 2. I thought Britton could have gone 2 innings, and perhaps Chappie is pitching with the lead at that point? Also he faced the bottom of the order, and ended up using way too many pitches. He was probably out of synch in Game 6 from inactivity.

The Yanks had to rely on their bullpen because of some questionable deals. I love CC, but anyone with eyes could see that he was literally on his last legs. Tanaka never lasted very long. Nobody could forecast how long Severino was going to be out or that German would hit his wife. but there were too many questions marks in their rotation to start and then they didn't get an arm at the deadline.

Just imagine if Bettances had been healthy or Ottavino lived up to his season play.

Too many guys were coming back with the season getting ready to end or worse, Encarnacion never made it back for the end of the season. The Yanks offense stumbled around a lot and left too many ducks on the pond. The feast or famine offense didn't feast enough.

My “Savages in the Box” T-shirt, which I ordered ostensibly to have in time for the start of the playoffs, arrived just today.

Everyone involved could have saved a bunch of money and time if the Etsy merchant had just sent a postcard instead that read “Dear letter carrier: Please knock on door and kick recipient once in the balls.”

377 yankintexas   ~  Oct 21, 2019 9:21 pm

Houston wasn't much better offensively than us. Their RISP batting average was only slightly better, but still not very good. Houston won because they were significantly better in starting pitching (no surprise), bullpen (big surprise to me), defense (another big surprise) and game strategy (no surprise there). If we had narrowed the gap in the starting pitching in the off-season (ex sign Corbin or Morton or even Lance Lynn instead of Happ and CC, both of whom I was against at the time) or made a deadline deal (ex Bauer, Ray) they probably beat Houston.

378 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Oct 22, 2019 11:16 am

Cole will be a free agent. Strassborg has an opt-out. Just sayin. I think it's not a coincidence that the 2 WS teams have perhaps 3 or 4 of the top 5 starters.

379 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 23, 2019 7:51 am

In 6 games against the 'Stros, we gave up 22 (0,3,4,8,1 and 6) Runs. I would sign up for that. Even though we got little from Judge, and NOTHING from Sanchez and EE, the Astros gave up 21 Runs.

Sure, I wish we had a better SP (although Sevy was rusty and German was absent), but it was not bad. The loss was on the offense, and the BP had it's let downs.

We had enough SP to win.
Our team was built on Offense.
The loss was on the offense.

Nice to see Nats win, first DC WS victory in like 86 years. Who's better, Glayber or Soto? Discuss among yourselves.

And we need more starting pitching. Can't really go through a series with a BP game.

381 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 23, 2019 12:12 pm

Gleyber is really, really good (125 OPS+).
However, Soto is a monster (140 OPS+).

382 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 23, 2019 12:21 pm

[380] Judge, Gary and EE should make a fearsome middle-of-the-order.
In the ALCS, combined, they went 10 for 66 (.152) with 2 HRs.
That's why we lost.

383 yankintexas   ~  Oct 24, 2019 11:24 am

Nats are kicking arse. 'Stros are getting out-hit and out-pitched. Pour Houston. I thought they were apex predators?

384 rbj   ~  Oct 24, 2019 2:11 pm

TJ surgery for Hicks. So 2020 Yankees are firing the injury bug right away.

385 yankintexas   ~  Oct 24, 2019 3:02 pm

Why don't they just perform TJ on everyone and get it over with? And while they are at it perform a labotmy on the training staff?

386 Hank Waddles   ~  Oct 24, 2019 3:04 pm

[383] I noticed that comment from Correa also. I realize it was heat of the moment, but it still pissed me off. Still pisses me off right now, as a matter of fact.

387 rbj   ~  Oct 24, 2019 7:00 pm

Cashman has dismissed the idea of Ellsbury being an option. Must be real bad. At least next year is the last guaranteed year.

No Scherzer, gulp.

[388] I’ll try tomorrow.

390 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2019 7:12 pm

Sucks about Scherzer. Hopefully, Ross can pull an Urquidy. Not off to a good start... : (

391 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2019 7:13 pm

Love the first pitch DP to that little fucknut

392 rbj   ~  Oct 27, 2019 7:28 pm

Looks like there’s an optometrist store, Albert I or L Becker. Manhattan, but I’m not getting the right result.

393 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2019 7:47 pm

It’s crazy just how many calls go the Astros way. If Suzuki caught a pitch like that, it’d be called a ball.

394 thelarmis   ~  Oct 27, 2019 8:58 pm

These fucking umps, man...

[388] I believe that modernist building with the setbacks is the "back" (41st St. side) of 330 West 42nd. St., which means the cafe in the foreground (8th and 41st) and everything else in the foreground is gone, sacrificed to the Port Authority Bus Terminal (1949) and its extension (1979).

Based on that I ended up finding this image in a Google search for the 8th Ave line, and it's tagged with the date 1935.

Whether or not I'm right this was a treat - thank you iyasu! Forgot how much I enjoyed these.

396 iyasu   ~  Oct 28, 2019 3:12 pm

[392] [395]

Thanks, rbj and Bronx Boy.

A search on "Albert Becker" shows The Blue Book of Optometrists with a listing of 641 8th Ave., which is between W40/41 streets.

Bronx Boy, thanks for your explanation. It's great you even found the date!

Glad you enjoyed this, too. Where & When was always fun.

[397] Someone with no coaching experience who will be a rubber stamp for the analytics department?

399 rbj   ~  Oct 29, 2019 9:21 am

[398] Analytics are helpful, but they can't calm you down or point out that you're tipping pitches. Or see that your curve isn't working today, go with the slider instead.

400 yankintexas   ~  Oct 29, 2019 9:00 pm

Soto is such a badass. Not sure why Verlander would challenge him like that.

I want a game seven. Just to stave off for another day of staring out the window and waiting for spring.

402 yankintexas   ~  Oct 29, 2019 9:55 pm

Umps still favoring the Astros I see. Such a terrible call at first. Not to mention the ridiculously long replay review.

403 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Oct 30, 2019 2:29 pm

what a great FU by Rendon. Srass has an opt out...... Rendon is a Free agent. just saying. btw. why did they can Rothschild? Kevin long doing a great job for the nats. Let's go nats!

Greinke is doing well.

Ok.

So glad to see the Astros go down.

Now how long until Opening Day 2020..?

412 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Oct 31, 2019 12:05 pm

Happy, so happy for the Nats. especially happy for founding owner Ted (94!) and managing owner Mark Lerner (who has overcome cancer in the past 18 months). just wish it could have been a game 7 against the Yanks.

413 yankintexas   ~  Oct 31, 2019 6:35 pm

Hinch pulling Greinke After 80 pitches and only 2 hits seems to be getting some criticism. I'm glad that binder mentality bit him in the rear.

414 Greg G   ~  Nov 1, 2019 3:45 pm

Chappie looking for an extension or he will opt out and the Yanks will put a QO on the table, which he will not accept.

I'm of the mind to let him go. I know timing is everything, and him giving up a dinger to Altuve on a slider, just hurts, and how many more years is he looking at. He is devastating when he is on, but is he going to be on for 5 more years at 25 mil per?

I would rather look at re-signing Betances, and we have Green, Kahnle and even Britton, but I like him better in the 8th. Ottavino was great before crapping himself in the playoffs. The Yanks made the smart move in not overypaying for Robertson, who ended up on the DL.

415 rbj   ~  Nov 1, 2019 3:49 pm

Congrats on Beltran for getting a managing job. Condolences on it being the Mets.

416 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Nov 1, 2019 4:28 pm

Bye bye Chappie - a QO for a guy who has lost a couple of mph each year for a couple doesn't make sense. Hope DB is fully recovered and can slide into the 9th inning role. Interesting that Hal says we have enough pitching (with guys coming back from IL and some of the kids). Might be a bargaining ploy re: Cole or Strassberg (the only 2 who make any sense at all on the market).

And good luck Carlos - you'll need it with the Nats, Braves, and Phillies (under new management) in the division.

417 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Nov 1, 2019 4:31 pm

And good luck to EE. Good move to let him move on, we'll have enough lumber in the lineup assuming soem health.
