Beat of the Day

take five

As Diane pointed out to me in an e-mail, we’d be remiss not to bow in appreciation of Dave Brubeck who turns 89 today.

How about his signature cut?

Happy Sunday Everyone.

Had the pleasure of seeing Brubeck play at Tanglewood (sp?) a few years ago. The guy was 80+ and still swinging, still having a helluva good time. Very cool.

[0] One of the masters. A great tune with a very underrated drum pseudo-solo.

[2] Saw Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club in NYC a few years ago. Glad I got a chance to see him play live before he died. I envy you for getting to see Brubeck. These guys never lost the ability to play.

I've been lucky enough to see Brubeck twice in the past 5 years. He's still got it.

Even if it's over-exposed, still a great tune.

[3] One of my two great "not-going to the gig" regrets was missing Les Paul in NYC a few years back. The other was missing Jimmy Smith for the silliest of reasons.
