New York Minute

At the gym during my lunch hour today, the place scattered with middle-aged men an women grunting, working out their demons, relieving stress, shaping up their bodies for the summer. Two men stretched out on mats next to each other doing crunches.

One says to the other, “They laid off a bunch of people at my work last week.”

“No way.”

“Way. I’m feeling very vulnerable now.”

They work in silence for a moment and then:

“Well, I’m sure you’ll be okay. You are a hard worker.”

“Yeah, that and $2.25 will get you on the subway.”

They go back to grunting.

Those "middle-aged" gym guys crack me up! But I think I crack them up too. I work out on my own 3 days a week and 2 days with a trainer and he absolutely kicks my ass-no mercy on this 42 year old gal!!! They see the challenges he give me with weights, cardio and I'm there grunting right along with them! Like my trainer says "you ain't working out if nobody's watching you!"

We just had someone laid off here at my job last week and I'd say i'd feel vulnerable but since she's gone, my 2 other co-workers & I have had all of her work that she left behind put on us. I barely have time to eat lunch and post on here! ;-)

Glad you found the time. Yeah, I'm a lazy gym rat. I go but don't push myself. I'm just happy I show up at all.
