Ain’t No Half-Steppin’

Peace to Chad Jennings for pointing out this bit of comic relief from our old pal Francisco Cervelli.

It’s Hughes and another must-win tonight for the Yanks. A win means a full game lead on the Orioles, a loss keeps them tied.

[0] Cervelli seems like such a joyful guy, would be great to hang with. Just wish he could catch a bit better.. :)

2 thelarmis   ~  Sep 20, 2012 5:26 pm

[1] and hit a little better... and throw runners out a little better... and play baseball a little better...

(and by a little, i mean a lot!!!)

3 Alex Belth   ~  Sep 20, 2012 5:53 pm

Oh, he wasn't THAT bad. Plus, he was cute. Every team needs a mascot, after all.

4 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:02 pm

Hey, Michael Kay in Canada.

5 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:08 pm

[4] The Bronx is now in Canada? :)

Hughes has 27 decisions..Cliff Lee has 13. YCPB™

6 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:10 pm

[5] D'oh! That's what I get for not paying attention.

7 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:10 pm

Nice, Phil.

8 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:12 pm

I thought it was a double play at home and one game away series as well. ; )

9 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:27 pm

Crud

10 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:27 pm

[8] Double play, so that's what they call it when they play two games in one day.

11 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:27 pm

And speaking of doubles...

12 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:32 pm

Not too bad.

13 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:32 pm

[10] Well you know what Ernie Banks used to say, "It's a great day for a ballgame, let's play 6-4-3."

14 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:41 pm

Curtis's new specialty.

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:46 pm

Phil, walks are bad.
Remember: we want the homers to be solos.

16 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:49 pm

Thanks Toronto.

17 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:56 pm

Would it be fair to say that Moises Sierra is a big batter?

18 mhoward120   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:57 pm

I fear this is the very bad Hughes. Gonna need the score truck, big time.

19 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:57 pm

Holy mother of Mo.

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 6:58 pm

[18] It can't be the Very Bad Hughes. No homers yet. Although the two doubles might qualify...

21 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:00 pm

Wow. Cleaned up after dinner and missed quite the top of the 3rd. WTF Phil!

22 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:00 pm

Gawd.
It's a True Outcomes night so far. Let's home he stays away from the other True Outcome.

23 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:04 pm

Heroic!

24 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:04 pm

But the restriction to solo home runs does not apply to the home team, I hasten to add.

25 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:17 pm

I'll take an immoral 3 run jack here.

26 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:27 pm

Well well.
Today we are reminded of the many ways to reach first base.

27 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:31 pm

4 k inning!

28 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:31 pm

A four K inning!!!!

Plenty of entertainment tonight.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:36 pm

[28] Damn. I missed it. I believe the 1st Yankee to ever do it was AJ a few years ago.

30 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:41 pm

more entertainment! Hot potato!

31 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:45 pm

Uh oh. Bases loaded nobody out. Damn.

Oh, but Ichiro... perhaps there is hope...

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:48 pm

Awesome. Atta boy, Ichiro!

33 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:48 pm

Ichiro!

34 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:49 pm

Well I'll be damned.

35 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:50 pm

NO MORE GOI!
(Ghost of Ichiro)

36 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:52 pm

[35] He looks pretty goyish to me.

37 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:54 pm

Jeter is on the Home Page of ESPN.com
His facial expression just screams out.....
"You talkin' to me?!?"

38 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:54 pm

[36] Don't let the nose job fool ya.

39 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:58 pm

My mancrush.

40 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 7:59 pm

SALAMI FOR ALL!

41 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:00 pm

Oh yes!

42 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:00 pm

Wow.
That was really, really good.

43 mhoward120   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:02 pm

Address the score truck? What does that mean, Norton?
HELLLOOOOO score truck!

44 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:02 pm

8 runs on 4 hits? I wonder what the largest inverse differential is?

45 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:03 pm

[37] Well worth the read.
http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/8399887/getting-answers-derek-jeter
Jeter is really funny. I don't think that's his intent, but the dude is funny.

Check out his answer to:
"Peyton Manning changed teams this season after 14 seasons with one team. Could you see yourself doing that?"

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:04 pm

I missed the Score Truck delivery. :(

47 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:05 pm

Man... Oakland cushes Detroit 12-4.
PEDs in the water cooler?

48 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:05 pm

[47] CRushes....

49 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:12 pm

[45] That was funny, thanks. His answer to weirdest thing a fan sent him has more that one meaning. . .

50 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:15 pm

Ah, now that's the Philthy Philly Phranchise I've been missing.

51 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:18 pm

Ruh roh, I turn to watch a G-men TD and now it's 8-4?

52 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:27 pm

That's better.

53 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:34 pm

Laptops is 4 hitting TB and beating Price 2-0.
Man, TB has really shit the bed.

54 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:36 pm

Pasta lunging Jeter...

55 mhoward120   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:37 pm

Just throw strikes, Dreck!

56 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:38 pm

And pasta Martin. Surprised some inventive chef hasn't created such dishes.

57 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:40 pm

Has anyone noticed if Jeter is gimping at all in the field or on the bases?

58 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:41 pm

Russell has two walks today; good thing, because he is having one shitty day behind the plate. (Although he did get that CS.)

59 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:41 pm

[57] I have not noticed, but Girardi says he isn't.

60 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:42 pm

I'll tell you what, D-Lowe does not get low strike calls. At least from this ump. Two of the pitches in that walk were in the zone, according to the pitch f/x data. They must look lower because they're sinking.

61 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:43 pm

Nice job, D-Lowe.

[53] I know. Can you believe how many idiots were more worried about them than about the Orioles???

62 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:46 pm

[61] Well, we shouldn't expect more from Yankee fans who choose to live in New England..I mean, obviously some issues there. (said while munching on dried squid snacks, 8000miles from Yankee Stadium..)

63 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:47 pm

[61] Now 3-0 Sox.
Meanwhile, I can't really complain about Hughes, but 5 IP produced 102 pitches. It's hard to be a stud when you always wear out your BP.

64 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:48 pm

[62] What, no seaweed?

65 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:53 pm

[64] Worried about radiation contamination. But dried squid is safe.

66 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:57 pm

[62] Exactly. We know of at least two idiots who were worried about the Rays, and they are both Yankee fans living in New England.

67 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 20, 2012 8:58 pm

[63] Ain't that the truth. He's either going to turn a corner at some point or continue to consistently hit 60 pitches in the 3rd inning.

68 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:01 pm

Lowe is just a pleasure to watch, isn't he?

69 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:02 pm

Okay, I guess he does have compensating virtues, just as Kenny was saying.

70 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:03 pm

[65] How long is the threat going to last?

71 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:07 pm

[70] The half-life of uranium is only about 4.5 billion years. So in maybe 45 billion years the radiation will be minimal.

72 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:08 pm

Sure is nice to come home from work and load up the game on mlb.tv and find the Yankees winning ... again!

73 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:09 pm

Weird looking start from Hughes.

5 innings

4 er

9k ???

74 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:10 pm

[70] What [71] said.
Basically, that whole area in Fukushima will be uninhabitable for a very very long time..I'm not so confident in the seafood caught off the coast now either.

75 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:14 pm

Well, Corey Wade picked up where he last left off ...

76 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:14 pm

[70][71] My reply went to moderation, must be it doesn't like the spelling of F u k u s h i m a Prefecture, Japan... anyways, it's a dead zone there. Going to be empty for many lifetimes...

77 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:14 pm

[73] He had four K in one inning. And yeah, it was a weird start. First four innings, nine Jays reached base, on three hits.

78 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:20 pm

[71] That long? I'm not sure, think it's on the order of 100K of years maybe millions. Earth has only been around for that. Still a sad situation. And I can't express my appreciation for those who are still fighting this. Selfless action.

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:20 pm

Ugh.

[72]

This is all my fault, isn't it?

80 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:21 pm

Oh, Curtis, come on.

Jeez, the ending of this game isn't not going to be fun. I might check out now, really.

81 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:22 pm

[71] And ya wanna know how the other half lives? *wah-wah-wahhhh...*

82 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:25 pm

[77] U238, 4.468 billion years. Maybe someone's been selling you U234, telling you it's U238?

83 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:26 pm

Oh, excellent, a Save situation.

84 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:29 pm

[77],[81] If anyone tries to sell you yellow cake, ask for chocolate instead...

Okay, I'm done. G'nite >;)

85 mhoward120   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:30 pm

What was that Stairway to Heaven live line? Ah yes. does anyone remember laughter?

86 rbj   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:30 pm

[81] There are question not to be asked.

Why is this a game?

Good night all. Allergies taking over.

87 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:40 pm

Wowza!!!!!!!!
TB scores SIX in the 9th to beat the Sox 7-4.
Good for them.

88 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:42 pm

Well, *that* was pathetic.

Do I dare watch this next half inning???

89 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:46 pm

[86] Yeah, Bailey came in for the save,
Single
Single
out
Single
Walk
Single

Bye bye Bailey, hello Vicente Padilla, three run homer.

90 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:47 pm

Moises, YOU ARE THE NAIL.

91 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:49 pm

Kelly Johnson, YOU ARE THE NAIL.

92 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:50 pm

EVERYBODY LOOKS LIKE A NAIL TONIGHT!

93 RIYank   ~  Sep 20, 2012 9:50 pm

BANG, BANG, BANG.

Maxwell got nothing on D-Rob.
