Death To Flying Things

Jason Giambi returns to the line-up today as Jaret Wright and Scott Downs face off at the Stadium. The MVP bats second, Giambi three, Cano down to seventh with Bernie and Bubba rounding it out as the Yanks look to make it six straight.

So, any guesses as to what flying object will strike Jaret Wright today?

1.  Okay,it's a little after 2am and I've decided that sleep is overrated. I have a lecture to give this morning, but I can sacrifice a few hours of sleep for my Yanks.

These are the brutal days in Japan.

2.  Nice start. How soon before Small comes in?

3 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:15 am

3.  Wright's first inning stats are good, but he has struggled early lately.

4 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:15 am

4.  Come on, Wright. Settle down.

5 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:15 am

5.  There is no time to rest, these are our playoffs. There should be no let-up now. Grind, Mike, grind...

6 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:17 am

6.  Yikes, Wright, get your shit together.

7 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:17 am

7.  F'en Wright.

8 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:18 am

8.  4 singles to lead off the game. Get Small ready...

9 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:19 am

9.  Bad luck on that one. Shea sucks, except against us.

10 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:19 am

10.  Gawd, Matsui is awful defensively.

11 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:19 am

11.  And just like that we put the Red Sox back into the race.

12 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:19 am

12.  Oh, my.

13 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:20 am

13.  We can survive about 5 runs today. Any more than that and I fear we buy the farm for the day.

14 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:20 am

14.  This is getting ugly, fast. 0 out.

15 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

15.  Calm down, the Yankees will win.

Wright hit again.

16 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

16.  Ouch. Are you serious?

17 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

17.  What are the fucking odds?!?!?!

18 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

18.  Matsui is an awful outfielder.

WOW...Wright has no luck.

19 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

19.  How does a guy get hit this many times. Is someone telling him to stay home?

20 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

20.  Well, no surprise, today is the day the Yanks regress majorly. Our brilliant offseason signing, one of Torre's "warriors," stinks it up.

You know, Wright must have really slow reactions...

21 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:21 am

21.  at least he got an out

22 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:22 am

22.  He got hit on the right shoulder.

I blame Cliff. ;-)

23 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:22 am

23.  Keep it at 3 runs in the 1st and we'll get it back in short order.

24 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:23 am

24.  I feel terrible!

25 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:23 am

25.  I really think it has less to do with luck and more with fielding. The bat, okay I give you that was freaky, but that last one was simply not getting his glove up

26 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:24 am

26.  Jaret, take the "hit it here, win a suit" sign off your uniform.
Glad I'm going to miss the end of the game.
Go Orioles.

27 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:24 am

27.  Everyone but Hillenbrand has hit it hard. I think.

28 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:24 am

28.  4-0, gotta keep it there

29 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:26 am

29.  Hmmm. First five men reach base. Since Wright was hit with that ball, which would have been a single up the middle had it not hit him, he got three straight outs.

Is three the charm?

30 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:26 am

30.  Painful, but I have a feeling we'll see some runs on the board from the home team today. How about a good old fashioned 8-6 win?

31 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:27 am

31.  That is, the other two hit-by-objects knocked him out of the game. Here's hoping this one knocked him into the game.

32 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:27 am

32.  If this a 5 pitch inning, I'm gonna go out and commit a crime...

33 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:27 am

33.  Godzilla better have a monster day with the bat.

34 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:27 am

34.  I can dig on that, Mike.

35 Ramone   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:28 am

35.  Wright blows. Remind me again why either Wang or Chacon has to go to the bullpen?

36 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:28 am

36.  If Matsui makes the catch, it's 2 - 0.

37 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:29 am

37.  Ugh. I guess Wright wasn't hurt too badly this time, huh?

I don't have the game on TV - is anyone warming up?

38 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:29 am

38.  Those are moments Mats reminds me of Shemp...

39 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:30 am

39.  I see Downs struggling a bit with location, but a big zone from the home plate ump. What do you see?

40 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:30 am

40.  Ramone, neither of those guys is going to the bullpen, I'm not sure I know what you're talking about.

41 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:32 am

41.  No one is warming that I know of.

42 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:33 am

42.  MVP

43 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:33 am

45 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:33 am

46.  A-MVP!

47 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:33 am

47.  A-CLUTCH!!!!!!!

48 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:34 am

48.  We are fortunate to get to watch him play for the Yankees every game.

49 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:34 am

49.  MVP Chant. Nice.

50 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:34 am

50.  See, A-rod, you should have waited until it was the 9th inning, than you could be "clutch" like fatty

51 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:35 am

51.  Wait a second...that at bat wasn't with a runner in scoring position and it wasn't after the 6th inning, so it obviously wasn't a clutch hit.

52 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:35 am

52.  Giambi down on three pitches. Wondering if Torre should have put him back in lower in the order.

53 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:35 am

53.  Giambi was late on all of Down's slow stuff.

54 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:35 am

54.  beat me to it Zack

55 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:36 am

55.  Ah, so close.

56 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:37 am

56.  Why not wait until we're facing a righty to put Giambi back in the line-up?

57 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:37 am

57.  If that ball to Sheff was two more inches over the plate, that clears the wall.

58 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:38 am

58.  Giambi hits lefties better than Tino this year.

59 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:38 am

59.  Here's hoping Wright settles down now, that is greatly needed

60 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:38 am

60.  Thanks, Rich 41.

Hopefully, Giambi will have learned something from his first at-bat. C'mon, Godzilla!

61 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:39 am

61.  Torre is a creature of habit. He was slow to move Giambi up in the lineup and he would be slow to move him back down.

62 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:39 am

62.  Giambi hits better than Tino period this year. =)

63 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:39 am

63.  Jorge missed that curve by about ten feet.

64 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:40 am

64.  No more runs, Wright.

65 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:40 am

65.  Not in May, Shaun.

66 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:41 am

66.  Okay. Two at a time.

It's up to Jaret to hold 'em here.

67 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:42 am

67.  Man, people really die on Torre's bench. When was the last time Woemack, Bellhorn, Phillips, or anyone else played. I know its a race and all, but those guys must be beyond rusty. Same thing with Mendoza/F-Rod

68 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:42 am

68.  Get Small up now Torre, don't fuck around.

69 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:44 am

69.  Where's Aaron Small? Wright sucks.

70 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:44 am

70.  If Small isn't warming, someone pour green tea over Torre's head.

71 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:44 am

71.  Crap, get him out of there now, Joe!

72 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:44 am

72.  Small up.

73 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:44 am

73.  He's the bed.

74 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:45 am

74.  Do we relly want him pitching next start either?

75 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:45 am

75.  I meant to say he's "sh^&^ing" the bed.

76 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:45 am

76.  Torre,don't wait until it is too late!

77 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:45 am

77.  True, Cliff, but ever since then . . .

Remember what a black hole 1B was last year?

This year, between Tino and Giambi, as 1B in 508 ABs, they have 39 HR, 107 RBI, 82BB, 102K, 143H, 19 2B, and have scored 83 runs. That's Mark Texeira-territory.

I see from Yahoo! that Wright is back to giving up singles . . . please tell me that someone is starting to warm up now.

78 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:45 am

78.  I didn't want Wright in this game when we sent Small to the pen. Small is better than Wright.

79 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:46 am

79.  Wright is the pen now. Even Torre will be able to see that...I think.

80 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:46 am

80.  I don't ever want him pitching for us again

81 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:46 am

81.  Thanks again, Rich. Small to the rescue?

82 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:47 am

82.  Let's hope so, Shaun.

83 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:47 am

83.  double play would be nice here

84 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:48 am

84.  Or a walk.....nice pitching.

85 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:48 am

85.  See ya, Wright.

86 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:48 am

86.  Lovely situation for Small to come into

87 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:48 am

87.  At least we yank him early. Get out of it Aaron.

88 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:48 am

88.  Pedro or Wright, good choice Cash.

89 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:49 am

89.  Small will be lucky to get out with a 6-2 game, lucky...

90 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:49 am

90.  Oh Lord, and Wells is coming up. Please PLEASE tell me Wright is being pulled as I type this . . .

91 rbj   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:49 am

91.  Tough situation for Small. He'll probably give up one or two runs.

92 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:50 am

92.  Now the game begins. We'll give up two more here to make it 6-2, but the Yanks will rally and Small will hold them to 1 more run over 5 innings. Gordon and Rivera will lock it down and we'll win it around the 8th inning.

93 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:50 am

93.  He threw one pitch out of 8 inside to Frankie C.

I mean if you can't challenge FC inside, something's wrong, no?

94 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:51 am

94.  FWIW, on the postgame radio broadcast last night, Susyn or Sterling (I forget which) said Wright wanted very badly to pitch today, and wasn't the type of guy to say if he was hurt or not.

He's so bad - and I can't see him - I don't know how to tell if this is just a crappy performance, or if he is hurt. In either case, someone should knock some sense into him. If he is hurt, he damn well shouldn't be pitching in the middle of this race when the team has other (good) options available!

95 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:51 am

95.  That's one.

96 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:52 am

97 yankz   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:52 am

102 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:53 am

104 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:54 am

109 Shaun P   ~  Sep 24, 2005 10:57 am

109.  Hey, not too long ago our bullpen gave up how many runs to the Blue Jays? Who says the Blue Jays won't return us the favor?

Maybe I'm more optomistic 'cause I haven't seen any of it, just read it online here.

141 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:13 am

142.  Let's go Aaron!!

143 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:15 am

143.  Rich,

Just my gut, about Pedro. It seemed like he was never even on Cash's radar. How many pitchers does Boston have to kick to the curb who end up having 6-10 more great years, before we pick up on it. We almost lost Clemens, should have signed Lowe, and should have signed Pedro. I don't care that it's Boston.

144 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:16 am

144.  Giambi is slumping again, maybe it's his back.

145 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:17 am

145.  Stormer, it was actually Wright or Lieber, Lieber signed for the same money on the same day with the Phillies. Lieber, by the way, has been an ace for them down the stretch, much like he was for the Yanks last Sept. I understood declining Lieber's $8 mil option to try to resign him for more years at less annually, but the market exploded. Signing Wright for the same money Lieber got, however, was unforgivable. Again, worst offseason in team history. Period.

148.  We should not have signed Lowe or Pedro. We should have signed Clement and Lieber, who combined got less money over less years than Wright and Pavano. And that's not second guessing. I said that last November.

149 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:19 am

149.  The key to this game is to keep Downs pitching out of the stretch. Well....the key is to hold them at 7, and then keep Downs in the stretch.

Every time he's pitched from the stretch he's lost the plate.

150 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:19 am

150.  It makes no sense. They pinch pennies with Lieber, spend money on Womack, pinch pennies this draft by not taking Hansen. I don't get it.

151 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:20 am

151.  Cliff,

I understand, but I thought paying Lieber for one year while on the DL in anticipation of him pitching for us for a while, he has a good year following the year you paid him not to pitch, and then you let him go for a lousy 8 mil., made no sense to me.

I knew it was coming when they cut to Mel picking up the phone and I just started screaming at him, "put that f***ing phone down Mel! put it down!" Just as my roommate walked in with his girlfriend, whom I was meeting for the first time. Heh.

Hell of a play by Crosby just now, btw.

191 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 11:59 am

191.  The problem isn't who came to play. The problem is Downs came to play and breaking crap has them completely off balance which would be able to be overcome by sitting on stuff but he's able to throw enough strikes when he needs them to take that option away.

192 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:02 pm

192.  Yeah but Marc, the guy was on 50 pitches through two, and then the Yanks started swinging at the first pitch. If they'd work some counts, which ARod is doing, he'd be out of the game by now.

228.  Small is looking better than ever. Can we just say he started today, and put Wright in the pen now? After pitching 6+ innings, Small is not going to be useful in the pen for awhile. Wright, OTOH, should be pretty fresh. :-P

230 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:19 pm

230.  The Matsui error was as big as the Cano play. Matsui had a better chance at that ball than Cano. A slightly tailing fly ball to left versus a scorching one hopper into the chest of the second baseman.

Both should have been made, but thems the breaks. We gotta club our way out of it today.

231 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:20 pm

231.  I said that about Wright/Small about a week ago when the topic began to emerge. Small is one tough cookie and a helluva starter. Wright struggles to get it going and never goes deep into the game. Sounds like he needs some time in the pen.

280.  Everyone will get some "Sierra Mist" at the stadium. Let's to Ruben....

281 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:51 pm

281.  I mean, Let's GO Ruben...Yank one will ya!

282 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:53 pm

282.  God Sierra sucks!!

283 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:54 pm

283.  F'en Ruben. But he did get me in the mood for Grilled Ruben.

284 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:56 pm

284.  ARod you're a Papi too....make some Big happen here.

285 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:56 pm

285.  I think it's just really tough hitting conditions.

Jeter walks. C'mon, A-rod! Yankees score best with two outs.

286 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:58 pm

286.  A salami would be too unbelievable.

287 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:58 pm

287.  3 - 0.....

288 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:59 pm

288.  Keep the line moving.

289 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 12:59 pm

289.  never mind. I thought I saw someone on third

290 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:00 pm

290.  I wanted that at-bat to continue. I trust ARod more than Giambi right now. Come Giambi...hit it to section B12

291 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:01 pm

291.  A-Rod walks.

Batista's coming in.

292 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:01 pm

292.  Giambi has his chance here. Lets do it! At least I know he'll have a good at bat.

293 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:01 pm

293.  Too much to ask? RBI single? Bases clearing double? Go ahead Grand Slam?

At this point, what I hope for here is a bases chucked walk with Matsui die next.

294 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:02 pm

294.  I meant Matsui due next. Hope that's not a jinxer.

295 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:02 pm

295.  No More LOB-itis! Giambino is going to come through!

296 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:02 pm

296.  C'mon, Jason! I'll settle for a walk, with Sheff coming up next.

297 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:03 pm

297.  two outs, bases loaded, Yankees have handled Batista. Sort of a big situation

298 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:04 pm

298.  take a walk unless it's down the pipe

299 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:06 pm

299.  Dick.

300 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:06 pm

300.  He had two pitches he should've handled.

301.  that's a downer

302 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:06 pm

302.  3 more LOB. They deserve to lose.

303 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:06 pm

303.  Man, not our day. Well, kiss goodbye to 1st place

304 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:07 pm

304.  Well, they've certainly had their chances.

305 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:07 pm

305.  I stayed up for this shit game....we'd better win it in dramatic or I'm going to poke someone;s eyes out with chopsticks today.

306 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:07 pm

306.  It's his back. Tino should be in there.

307 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:08 pm

307.  Those two errors are killing me and most importantly the Yanks right now....

308 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:08 pm

308.  We don't say goodbye to 1st. We're tied for 1st. HUGE difference.

309 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:09 pm

309.  Thats because they play like shit when they are behind Mike Kay, it's that simple.

310 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:10 pm

310.  I don't know if it was the shadows or what, but Giambi just didn't seem to be seeing the ball well. Usually he's very good at it. This time...oy. He was swinging at balls he shouldn't have, and not swinging at ones he should have swung at.

311 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:10 pm

311.  We've given this game away. All the lob's, the 4 unearned runs.

And of course Boston, Chicagom, and Cleveland will all win tonight.

312 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:10 pm

312.  Kay sucks elephant balls. Kaat is the best.

313 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:10 pm

313.  Boston hasn't won yet, but they are playing the Orioles after all.

314 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:11 pm

314.  Mendoza and DePaula throwing? Are you kidding?

315 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:12 pm

315.  This is the worst Yankee team, playing from behind, that I have seen in at least 15 years.

316 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:12 pm

316.  Better De Paula than Embree or Proctor.

317 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:14 pm

317.  I hardly think of it as the worse in the last 15 years.

Last licks coming...let's hope we lick'em good. Posada is the tying run.....Come on Jorge juice one.

BTW, Sheff and Matsui will both get on.

318 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:15 pm

318.  Sturtze got out of it, so no Embree. Unless they tie the game and we go to more innings than Mo can pitch.

319 atc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:15 pm

319.  the 2003 team sucked at coming back

320 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:16 pm

320.  Wow, susan mentions it's possible that Yanks, Boston, Cleveland and Chisox could all finish with the same record I think. And then I guesss the two losers would play for the wildcard. Is that possible?

321 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:16 pm

321.  Now Matsui and Jorge have to get on for Robbie.

322 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:17 pm

322.  I think Sheff's already given up. He didn't look like he was serious there.

323 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:18 pm

323.  OK....now we are going down w/o a fight.

This sux!!!

324 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:18 pm

324.  talk about ending with a whimper.

325 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:20 pm

325.  3 up, 3 down...Liza that f'en c is singing.

326 mikeplugh   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:20 pm

326.  So much for sleep. Go O's. What a waste.

327 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:21 pm

327.  Well, that sucked. Yanks should have won this one, dammit. Those errors were the difference.

328 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:22 pm

328.  What a pittiful display.

Errors, sloppy at bats, with 8 to go. If you lose you lose, but when you give it away, that may cost you big time. Come on O's! If Boston wins today, I don't like our chances the rest of the way, not if that sloppy play continues. We had to win these home games.

329 Dimelo   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:23 pm

329.  The Yanks had one bad game...we'll get tomorrow. This team isn't going to give it away. The O's win big tonight.

330 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:27 pm

330.  I hope Cleveland has that one bad game. Boston's already has had a lot of bad games to open the door for us.

331 hensley   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:38 pm

331.  i am the biggest oriole fan ever to exist today.

332 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:46 pm

332.  Bases juiced, no outs for Manny in the first.

Looking more and more like we'll need to win 2 of 3 next weekend.

333 JohnnyC   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:49 pm

333.  Knowing "Manager of the Year" Joe Torre's habits, they'll probably need to sweep.

334 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:52 pm

334.  I'm not sure I can stand listening to these miserable O's get spanked

335 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:53 pm

335.  That is how you play baseball. You get runners into scoring position, and you get them home. If the Red Sox get good pitching, they can't lose. It isn't their hitting that is letting them down, as ours is. How many LOB for the Yanks today?

336 Stormer Sports   ~  Sep 24, 2005 1:55 pm

336.  15 LOB.

Team LOB 11.

That aint going to do it.

337 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 2:28 pm

337.  Maybe Clement is starting to suck

338 randym77   ~  Sep 24, 2005 3:13 pm

338.  Except Wakefield, none of Boston's pitchers is looking particularly good these days. Well, maybe the young guns, Hansen and Papelbon.

339 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 3:56 pm

339.  Heh, Jon Heyman had a column this week promoting Torre for Manager of the Year. It made me LOL.

340 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:00 pm

340.  If the Yankees had drafted Hansen, they probably wouldn't have promoted him yet. In fact, if they had drafted Street instead of Poterson, they probably wouldn't have promoted him yet either.

341 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:17 pm

341.  Damn Indians

342 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:17 pm

342.  Well, Clement showed up today, and they ar well on their way to a win, so looks like we will be tied for 1st now, ith the Sox having all the momentum...that day off helped them

343 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:19 pm

343.  Rich, the test will be to see how fast we promote Street's successor as UT closer, whom we drafted this year.

344 Yankee Fan in Chicago   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:20 pm

344.  Mora, two run bomb of Hansen. Tie game.

345 Jen   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:21 pm

345.  Fuck yeah!

346 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:37 pm

346.  Our future set up man is in — Ryan... Hold tight, Biods!

347 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:38 pm

347.  ... make that Boids.

348 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 4:39 pm

348.  CP3 O-lerud down looking with 2 on, side out...

349 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:02 pm

349.  Bases loaded, Rent. up, doesn't look good

350 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:03 pm

350.  2 run sox lead, even more momentum for them

351 BklynBomber   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:04 pm

351.  Mmmmm... not so fast on Ryan in pinstripes, there... 4-2 Sox, 2 on, 1 out, Ortiz up.

No help tonight. We're gonna have to do this ourselves. Which is OK. We will.

352 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:06 pm

352.  Blow Job Ryan sucks.

Yankee Fan in Chicago,

Cox.

353 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:13 pm

353.  miserable day so far. Looking like Boston win and Cleveland's ahead. We're about to be underdogs to make the post-season despite being red-hot before today. There's just no margin of error anywhere. Wait Timlin in. we have a chance.

354 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:15 pm

354.  Timlin walk. How can we end up losing to the Sox. I means it's Mo versus the crap closer du jour for Boston

355 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:17 pm

355.  How bout a blast Tejada

356 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:18 pm

356.  Boston's offense is more consistent than the Yankee offense.

357 Rich   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:21 pm

357.  Fucking tease. Ryan is a pussy.

358 Zack   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:27 pm

358.  Oh well, we just have to win out form here on in. I really don't like how it seems like every saturday we play before the Sox, not that it matters anymore. We just need to go back out tomorrow and immediatly reestablish our swagger.

Here's hoping either Toronto or Baltimore can win one against the Sox, but I doubt it

359 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:28 pm

359.  Now the worse mightmare of all. listening to KC game hoping they rally back for a win against Cleveland who's winning 3-1 in 5th. I'm better off waiting for Godot

360 Max   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:40 pm

360.  Not much we can do, guys. Bad, bad game, but at least we won't see Wright starting again, and the rest of our starting pitchers have been pretty good lately. Plus Gordon and Mo get a bit more rest in the wake of a final road trip that's bound to stretch them to their limits.

I'm not hoping for help from the Indians or White Sox...it's the division or nothing.

361 marc   ~  Sep 24, 2005 5:46 pm

361.  Now Cleveland up 5-1. Kiss the WC goodbye.
