Heavyweight Title Fight

Over at Fox Sports, our pal Dayn Perry has a preview of the ALCS and states the obvious:

“This one has the makings of a white-knuckled classic.”

Should be a blood bath, no? I just don’t see it lasting four or give games–this one seems destined to go six or seven, and is bound to take years off our lives.

Girardi is considering a three-man rotation, for the reasons outlined earlier on these pages.
Good man! Even if he isn't the greatest chess player.

"....and is bound to take years off our lives."
Truer words were never spoken.
Should I be looking forward to this?

Yes!
CC for three games, AJ and Andy for two games each! October baseball, baby! It's what we live for...

Whichever team emerges from the ashes to advance to the Series will deserve to do so.

The Angels scare me, but this Yankee team seems to be as well equipped to take them on as any in the last decade.

Friday can't come soon enough.

I predict...........
It all comes down to ARod!

[3] I notice you said "live", not "sleep" - I fully expect miss out on precious hours of sleep starting with at least Game 3 (cursed West Coast start times).

That said, I think it goes 5 games, perhaps 6 max.

[6] I'm not sure if MLB will go with the traditional 10pm (7pm PT), start times. I would think they'd want to keep the Yanks in prime time, so we're probably looking @ 4pm/7-8pm start times.

A.J. is a gonna be real good this series.

Yanks in 5.

Last year I was completely at peace with having a stress free October. This year I am completely at peace with a stress filled, ulcer inducing clash with those bastards from the wrong coast. Can't wait.

I only have one request, should the Ynakees lose on the field of play, they must preserve their pride and dignity by pantsing the Angels. Bill Murray would approve.

[1] Yay!

[11] Moreover--and I can't believe that I am saying this--if Girardi goes with a three-man rotation, then he should by all means do so in conjunction with exploiting his deep BP. That is, go to the BP a bit sooner rather than later and save starters for multiple starts on short rest.

13 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2009 3:35 pm

[12] Moreover, moreover, as we were discussing potential roster moves...Given that the starters seem to be pretty much the starters, with no platooning (except for Molina now potentially starting two games), and given the possibility of using a three man rotation, perhaps it would be wise to keep an extra BP arm, rather than swap in an extra PR.

14 Raf   ~  Oct 13, 2009 3:58 pm

[13] The pitching staff could go either way I suppose. Even though they're going to a 3 man rotation, they still have 3 guys that can go 2+ innings in Aceves, Joba and Gaudin. Hughes & Roberston should be able to go a couple of innings if needed. Coke is the token LOOGY, Rivera's the closer... They can carry another arm, be it Bruney or Marte (either of which will hopefully be used in a blowout situation), or they can carry another PR. Given that they're going to go with 3 catchers, I suspect that they'll carry another PR, for one of Molina, Posada or Matsui. I guess it depends on what they have in mind for Guzman or Hairston.

I'd go with Bruney over Marte/Guzman.

If the Yankees lose after throwing CC Sabathia 1-4-7, you almost have to tip your cap.

If the Yankees lose because Chad Gaudin gave up six runs in two innings in game four, it will be a long off season.

[15] I think Guzman is the least likely of the three to cause irreparable damage.

Well I'm going to miss Friday's & Saturday's games. Doesn't mean I'll be getting rest though.

No rest until the WS trophy!

3-man rotation, is that settled?? Wow...I like it!

By the way, major MAJOR "BOOOOO" for MLB, Inc. yet again...4 days off with no baseball, and the WS will go into November..truly, the idiots are running the asylum...

20 monkeypants   ~  Oct 13, 2009 9:08 pm

[19] Some off days are inevitable because of the sweeps, but many of the off days are scheduled and simply unnecessary. The people who run this game--and that includes the owners and the union--are so stupid sometimes that it boggles my mind the sport makes money and retains. I hope they are not doing too much long term damage to the game (have they lost a generation of fans by boring them away from the game, turing them on only--it seems--by mini-golf and other distractions in the new parks).

21 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Oct 13, 2009 9:19 pm

[20] Truly stupid! I agree about the stadiums too..except for the turf problem I support cookie-cutter stadiums! Saves tax-payer money to have baseball and football in one space. You also focus on the game, not ordering sushi, going to the "kid's corner" or, god forbid, sitting in a jacuzzi...

22 The Hawk   ~  Oct 13, 2009 10:24 pm

Baseball in November is an abomination. This has been proven.
