Even though I obviously could not throw a major league no-hitter in any state of consciousness, I can do other athletic things well. Having taken LSD a few times as a younger man, I cannot imagine being able to do any of them at anywhere even approaching my unaltered-consciousness level of performance while on LSD.

Wow! Talk about being rendered speechless. Ok, no I'm not.

His commentary is beeeeyond. Such a treat to hear it from his perspective being that it was written about a fair amount. Loved the graphics too.

To think that most people on acid can only stare at trails there hands make while pondering the meaning of it all.

[2] I think it shows just how much is instinctual.

I just read Joe Pos' "Yankee Payroll" piece...why did I do that to myself??

[3] Well honestly, all my musician friends could drive from Great Neck to the Filmore East and back tripping heavily. I did my share of LSD but would NEVER drive a car (in NY, no less).... and only drove with my tripping friends ONCE..

I've never done drugs or even smoked a cigarette.

Somehow I don't think I'm missing anything ....

[7] Well, come to think of it, I, too have been in cars with tripping drivers, although growing up in Manhattan, the car situation was mostly avoided thanks to cabs, public transportation and walking everywhere.

I've been in situations where I've had to act straight. That was hard enough.

i have been looking forward to seeing what scene from the serious would be on the si cover all week. i pulled the magazine out of the mailbox on my way in tonight and what do i find on the cover? peyton fucking manning. now granted i am not paying for si right now, i did not renew my subscription and yet i am still getting magazines, but nevertheless i am really thinking of canceling it anyway. how the hell is something about the yankees winning the god damn world series not on the cover?!?!

Man, that was truly great. I sent it to a bunch of people. Really well done hearing it in Dock's own words is hilarious.

Now, for the animated version of the Peterson-Kekich swap.

holy crap - john wetteland was hospitalized for mental illness and being suicidal. yikes! who knew?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4649838

that's sad. i hope he gets okay...

[8] you're not missing anything! well, i don't know - i've never really done drugs, but i used to smoke evil cancer sticks. blech! that was like a lifetime ago. all that said, i'm about to go drink like 10 beers!!! : )

17 thelarmis   ~  Nov 12, 2009 10:30 pm

[15] dude. i've basically blown all my money on blue notes. i gotta stop. i'm about to have double rent for 2 months with this move and i'm hurtin', moneywise.

got a half-dozen more today and have another two dozen on the way. yeesh! : ~

but tell me - how in the fuck am i supposed to go in the store today and NOT buy a Duke Ellington trio CD w/ Charles Mingus and Max Roach on it for $5 ?!?! it's on BN!!! i had NO clue!!! and a super cool Benny Golson w/ Philly Joe & Lee Morgan for $6!!! i had ZERO idea that was on BN, too!!!

i might pick up a couple-few here & there, but i'm really hoping to stop the madness until Spring - hopefully i'll be settled in and back on my feet by then...

18 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 12, 2009 11:20 pm

[17] You mean "Money Jungle"? That's a famous record!! What a mix of personalities there..am sure Mingus and Max would have revered the Duke and treated him with nothing but respect.

Get moved into the new joint, build a nice cd library then upload us some pics!

I'm off to a couple events tonight, though a cold front just hit..tempting to sit in my local jazz bar andjust relax..

19 thelarmis   ~  Nov 12, 2009 11:23 pm

[18] yeah, money jungle! i didn't know of it, and i certainly didn't know it was on BN. turns out, it was remastered/reissued a coupla years ago w/ 2 extra alt takes. oh well. i found it, got excited and it was cheap. glad to have it!

mlb traderumors has been chock full 'o posts this week. nice to still have lots of baseball news to read! : )

20 matt b   ~  Nov 12, 2009 11:32 pm

[17] Where are you getting these platters so cheaply?

21 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Nov 12, 2009 11:38 pm

[19] It's funny but recently listening to some Mingus and Max Roach albums on Impulse, it really jumps out what complete musicians they were..I mean, I used to think of them as "bassist" and "drummer", but the more I listen to their albums (especially from that period) the clearer the picture of their "music". The themes and ideas running through their compositions I mean...

Sigh..this is why I don't write music reviews, it's too hard to describe in words what is happening musically!!

22 thelarmis   ~  Nov 12, 2009 11:44 pm

[20] today was at a cool cd store, walking distance from my pad. their jazz section isn't huge, but the selection is pretty excellent and the prices - both new & used - is very good.

don't worry, i counterbalance these great finds with spending waaaay too much on rare blue note titles i find elsewhere! : ~
