In New York Magazine, Will Leitch examines fielding metrics; in the Boston Globe, Charles Pierce tells your statistics to shut up.
Leitch actually does a good job getting his arms around some of the concepts, but I actually think a better, more interesting piece could be done about the flaws inherent in systems like UZR and +/- that essentially seek to replace observational data by turning back to it as a basis.
