"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

I'm a Poor Lonesome Cowboy (Far Away from Home)

It’s Dontrelle Willis v. Jav Vazquez tonight in Arizona as the Yanks look to leave the desert with a series win.

The Score Truck made a late-inning pit-stop last night; here’s hoping it arrives early tonight.

Let’s Go Yan-Kees.

I set tonite's over/under on Javy K's at 8 ... and I'm going to take the OVER!

[1] Is "K" the abbreviation for "home run"?

4 rbj   ~  Jun 23, 2010 7:49 pm

Day-um. That tennis match still isn't over?

And from LoHud:
"Curtis joined Kevin Russo, Greg Golson and Chad Huffman to become the fourth Yankee to get his first big league hit this season. Perhaps more impressively, he became the seventh member of the Yankees 2006 draft class to reach the big leagues. Ian Kennedy, Joba Chamberlain, Mark Melancon, Dan McCutchen, Dave Robertson and Russo also came out of that class. "

Hooray for good scouting & player development.

I remember a few years ago when posters on this site, but more on RLYW and other sites, were calling for the Yankees to sign Dontrelle. It's really been downhill for him, almost since he did his thing against the Yanks in 2003.

[3] Not tonite my friend!

I'm looking forward to Javy's post-game press conference. Of cousre I'll be sleeping but I expect great things.

Since I have your attention here, I have to ask: There wasn't a single comment on my Paths of Glory post earlier today. Was that:

a) bad timing (it went up around the time of the US soccer win and on a busy sports day with the neverending tennis match)

b) bad subject matter (nobody's seen or likes that film and nobody cares)

c) bad writing (post wasn't worth responding to/didn't inspire conversation -- be honest about this)

d) the result of information overload (too many other posts today, it got lost in the shuffle)

Just curious, because I was hoping it would generate some conversation and it didn't even generate a comment. Please be honest with me, because I have to say a total non-response like that cools my enthusiasm for taking the time to do another in-depth criticism for that feature.

[9] Was there a technical problem that you know of? Because I couldn't click through to the whole article the couple of times I tried.

11 monkeypants   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:39 pm

[9] don't take it personal, at leastnwithnregards to me. I log on here to talk baseball and prettynmuch only baseball. I love movies but almost never comment on movie posts. I love food but have, I think, never responded to a food post. And I could give less than a shit about soccer, so I don't much respond to world cup related things.

But baseball, that I will comment on.

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:39 pm

[8] Which is true ... Ciao!!! ... but they're STILL FLOPPERS!

(though not nearly as bad as those bastard Portuguese ...)

Have you got a FLAG???

Brains is batting sixth?

14 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:42 pm

[9] Also, thinking about it ... maybe each WEEK OF ... set of posts should be appended to the previous posts in the series and bumped to the top of Banter.

That way as each Kubrick movie (e.g.) was added, a continual "Kubrick Conversation" could be encouraged and grown and developed.

Not sure if that's possible, but that's one idea I had today ...

15 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:42 pm

Brains is batting sixth?

Forget it, he's rolling ...

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:42 pm

[9] Didn't see it at all. Out with the kids all day!
I haven't seen the film either, though, fwiw.

[9] Busy Mr. Mom-ing and also at ACME Investigations today, but read it over b-fast and comment coming! Don't stop the reviews, I love them.

Also, unlike our Professor friend at [11] I love all the xtra posts even more than the baseball ones, so keep them coming!

[17] [Meet me over here, in the corner, quietly!]

Okay, then ... Brains should be batting in between Grandyman and Gritner ... but Joey Joe Joe, ain't the sharpest tool in the shed, ya know? It doesn't really make that much difference (I guesstimate) so ...

Know what I mean???

Yankees took pity on D-Train and ran themselves out of the inning. I don't know if I'm pissed or proud.

32 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:55 pm

[24] It was weird, I kept getting an error message I've never seen before. Every other thread I tried worked, but not that one.

MEANWHILE ... fuck < Fuck < FUCK!!!

FUCK

33 ny2ca2dc   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:55 pm

Clearly the Yankees also feel sympathy for Dontrelle, with that garbage

34 monkeypants   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:55 pm

I'm not sure that was the best strategy in this particular situation.

36 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:58 pm

Cano somehow swung through a cookie for strike three and Teix was thrown out at third.
Inning over.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 9:59 pm

[35] Well, if this was a novel, the Yankees would have gotten drunk,, doused themselves with gasoline, lit themselves on fire, punched themselves in the face, thrown themselves down the stairs and kicked themselves in the balls at the bottom.

As it were ...

It's enough to make you think that someone's on the take.

58 mjpucci   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:18 pm

Evening, banterers.

That might have been the worst inning I've ever seen for a game that's only 2-1.

59 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:19 pm

The Yankees should be winning this game 5-0, but are instead trailing 2-1. The Yankees really haven't played consistently well for a while, yet somehow have the best record in baseball. When they start playing better teams, they might not get away with it.

60 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:19 pm

The Yankees haven't played this poorly since the hangover game in Baltimore after the White House visit.

61 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:19 pm

67 mjpucci   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:25 pm

I don't really know what all the furor is about A-Rod's "I'm not a home run hitter" comment is. m Obviously he is, but I took it to mean he's not in the Mark McGwire/Jose Canseco mold, where that's their entire game.

[77] At least pick A strike!

79 Raf   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:40 pm

This is getting painful to watch. At least he's not bouncing them up there like Wholers used to

80 monkeypants   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:40 pm

Is. Dontrelle as crazy wild as game day is showing? The pitches look like theynare flying over the batters' heads, etc.

81 Raf   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:40 pm

That wasn't a strike Alex

82 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:41 pm

[80] Yes, he is.

84 The Hawk   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:43 pm

The funniest part right now is that Jeter made an out.

I think the crowd just cheered Willis off the field. I'm sort of embarrassed.

Man, what happened to Dontrelle Willis?

86 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:44 pm

87 mjpucci   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:44 pm

Another plus: we get to bat off the D'back bullpen for 6.2 innings.

Thanks ROTTEN!!!

93 The Hawk   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:47 pm

Wow. After all that, it's a tie game 2-2. The first inning is more to blame but the Yanks could easily be up by 10.

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 23, 2010 10:48 pm

Hello all,
[9] I really do enjoy the film discussions on this blog, and the others on music, food, art, etc. make the BBB really interesting and way beyond the other "sports" blogs. Those other sites are just sports radio rants (but worse) in written form. I have not had a chance to read your piece on Paths of Glory, as the day was away from the computer after the morning. I'll get to it, please keep them coming.

The game is tortuous, and all of these late games are taking their toll. I'll probably keep watching, just because you never know what will happen next, but I'll probably regret it.

114 mjpucci   ~  Jun 23, 2010 11:19 pm

[111] [113] Michael Kay is right: This game looks like it's being played in slow motion. Yankees better realize they're on the verge of losing this series to a last-place team with no pitching whatsoever.

129 monkeypants   ~  Jun 23, 2010 11:31 pm

[115] I'm listening to the Dbacks radio feed. It's not TV and yeah, they are homers to some degree. But there is no Kay or Sterling or Waldman. They have a play by play man who actually describes the game and a former player to provide color who makes the occasional appropriate observation or insider perspective.

The Yankees should be ashamed of their announcing team overall.

[133] Oneill is ok, but for my tastes he likes to yuk it up a bit too much. Also, i find his interaction with Kay, who is of course an idiot, tiresome.

The GIAMBINO!

145 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 23, 2010 11:40 pm

[142] Reliever names are getting progressively more absurd. Houston trotted a whole slew of whacky names out last week.

did my boy Giambi hit a walkoff?!

150 mjpucci   ~  Jun 23, 2010 11:41 pm

[144] Jason G hit a game-winning homer of Papelbon. So no matter how craptacular this Yankee game is, they can't lose ground.

151 monkeypants   ~  Jun 23, 2010 11:42 pm

[145] yet ANOTHER reason for teams not to carry 12 or 13 pitchers. ;)

Giambi's looking a little ragged these days, but he torched Papelbon on that one.

Or do that. That works too.

176 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:00 am

Yankees: We'll show *you* bad bullpen!

181 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:02 am

I wonder how long the Yankees will continue the Marte Experience.

182 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:02 am

Marte is a joke...just when you think the Yankees cant play worse in this series, they out do themselves. What an embarassment.

183 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:03 am

[175] right, but they are playing under national league rules tonight. That changes everything.

184 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:03 am

[170] sooo confusing! so, for 6 months of the year they're 2-hours behind and the other they're 3? oy vey.

[169] no pale ales during the week - i'm teaching every day. but i head to philthy this weekend, so the beer will start being imbibed once the airline allows the carts down the aisle!

javy only threw 85 pitches. i really dislike the NL w/ the pitcher hitting. now, we'll have to use the pen for 4 stinkin' frames...

We really are going to lose this baseball game.

223 The Hawk   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:23 am

They should have gotten rid of Marte after his postseason awesomeness last year. He obviously used up all his effectiveness right then and there.

Also, I thought A Rod would be terrific this year, freed from the burdens of being a postseason bust and non-champ, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. It's like he's only half there. Maybe someone needs to get Kate Hudson on the phone ...

224 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:24 am

Jeter's staying in.

How can the turf be that bad? It doesn't rain much in Arizona.

225 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:24 am

You know what this game needed? 15 throws to first

226 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:25 am

DJ's hurt??? say it ain't so! please...

marte still has one more year on his contract. right? at $4 mil.

i'd love to get kate hudson on the phone. and then into...

nice DP.

227 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:26 am

[223] I think A-Rod's playing hurt.

The Yankees probably shouldn't have signed him to such a long contract.

228 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:26 am

Is there a reason he's pitching this slowly with no one on?

229 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:27 am

[226] No, it seems he's ok. He slipped on the grass but he seems fine.

230 Raf   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:27 am

[223] I'd rather someone check the hip than get Kate Hudson

231 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:27 am

[227] Had they not, they wouldn't have #27.

232 The Hawk   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:29 am

[230] Surely you don't think I was serious. And surely someone has already checked his hip.

233 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:30 am

Jeter actually worries me more than Arod.

234 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:30 am

The Yankees have swung at so many bad pitches today.

235 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:30 am

I know he got stone robbed last time, but Robby's looked pretty bad tonight. Swinging at all kinds of shit.

236 The Hawk   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:30 am

[231] Well, they could have signed him for half the time and he still would have been here for #27

237 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:31 am

It is kind of funny that its now gotten to the point where stories are on "SI.com"

Its in the actual magazine too.

238 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:32 am

[235] And that's why they leave him a fastball over the letters....

239 The Hawk   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:33 am

[237] What's a "magazine"?

240 Raf   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:35 am

Woulda been nice to see a bunt there, with Granderson and Gardner coming up...

241 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:35 am

[231] I think they could have signed him to a shorter deal. It's not like he had anywhere else to go. That's why he came crawling back.

And yeah, Jeter is part of the equation, too. If A-Rod is signed until he's in his 40s, Jeter's going to want that, too. And the fans probably think he deserves it more.

But Jeter is already geriatric for a SS. He's holding up well, but he's not a DH or 1B kind of hitter. What are the Yankees going to do with him when he can't play SS any more?

242 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:36 am

Even against righties, Granderson has way too many give away at bats.

243 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:36 am

Yankees completely, utterly shut down by the Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen.

Just have Aaron Heilman strike out the side while we're at it.

244 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:37 am

[236] Doubt he would have signed for half the time.

245 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:38 am

Can't believe I'm asking this, but where would this team be without Brett Gardner?

246 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:38 am

c'mon jorgie!!!

247 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:40 am

Hell of an AB there Jorge

248 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:41 am

This is infuriating.

249 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:41 am

[242] he's been hurt, so I'm trying to reserve judgment, and he is so likable. But some here will recall that I was skeptical about Granderson from the beginning. His career numbers were just not trending in the right direction. Then again, let's see how he looks in July and august.

250 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:41 am

Dammit. That guy didn't look like a pitcher with an 8 ERA.

251 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:41 am

Pathetic...I didn't even want Posada to hit for Cervelli for exactly that reason. This has been another shameful performance. What should have been sweep is going to end up in a series loss. Just disgraceful.

252 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:43 am

[250] This bullpen doesn't look like the worst bullpen on earth. The Yankees have an amazing ability to do that.

253 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:43 am

This must be like the World Series for the Diamonbacks, everyone playing at max effort. Because it's hard to conceive this team could have a record this bad.

254 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:43 am

[251] I had very little doubt that Jorge was going to strike out. it was just a matter of whether it would be swinging or looking/arguing with the umpire.

FARMADUKE!

255 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:44 am

Seems like the Yankees are more interested in their off day in LA than winning this game.

256 The Hawk   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:44 am

[244] Maybe not, but it's possible the Yanks could have won without him. As it is they are definitely stuck with a long-ass contract for a guy who seems like he may be already breaking down. Here's hoping that's not the case.

257 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:44 am

[253] I don't think the Dbacks are playing well...the Yankees are just playing terribly.

258 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:45 am

if we lose this game on a walk, balk & wild pitch, i'm gonna be really peeved. NO reason we should lose this series...

259 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:45 am

[256] Possible, but I can't think of how the 2009 Yankees minus Arod win the World Series or even make the playoffs.

260 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:45 am

[255] I heard Swisher booked some of the guys on the Vivid Video studio tour..they may be looking ahead?

261 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:45 am

Maybe the Yankees should trade Joba to Arizona

262 Raf   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:47 am

[251] I woulda taken a sac bunt from Cervelli

263 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:47 am

[253] I don't think the D-backs are as bad as their record indicates. They're playing in a tough division. The rest of the teams all have winning records.

Though it's not as tough as the AL East, of course.

264 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:48 am

[258] Sadly, that's just one of many reasons why the Yankees are going to give yet another game away to a retread. They are on their way to 0-5 against pitchers they should have killed. You can't give away games like that because the schedule is going to turn soon.

265 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:49 am

[262] Girardi doesn't use strategy.

266 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:49 am

[264] Remember when the Yankees couldn't figure out the Reds in 2008 and we were told that June was to early to worry about punting gimme games?

267 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:51 am

Funny how Joba was the Yanks' untouchable. They were willing to trade Hughes for the right deal. They did trade Kennedy. But Joba's been the most disappointing of the lot.

268 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:51 am

IF we lose, thankfully we won't lose any ground in the standings. but this really is a perfect game to increase our lead there.

hopefully qualls can't quell...

269 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:52 am

The Yankees did drop 2 out of 3 to the Nationals last year, at home, no less. I can't tell whether this is just a let-down, or something more systemic.

270 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:52 am

[268] There is no consolation in a loss....you have to gain a game when you face Dontrelle Willis. A loss in this game is a disgrace.

Can Joba ever be consistent?

271 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:53 am

[270] No.

272 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:54 am

[269] I'm still kind of worried about how badly they hit on the road.

273 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:55 am

I have no confidence in Jeter or Tex right now. It almost feels like Swisher or bust.

274 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:55 am

[272] Yeah, I feel like all the primary Yankee weaknesses have come to the fore tonight: poor situational hitting, no production from 3-4, shaky bullpen.

275 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:55 am

[266] in 2008 the Yankees finished in third place, eight games out. They didn't miss the playoffs because they punted a few gimme games.

I also remember last year some people freaking out about dropping 'easy' games.

[275] It's one thing to lose an easy game, and quite another to play so disgracefully terrible while doing so.

277 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:57 am

I just don't like Aaron Heilman

278 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:58 am

Wasn't there some sabermetrical study that found inconsistent pitchers are more valuable than consistent ones? Maybe there's hope for Joba yet.

279 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:58 am

Awful pitch to swing at.

280 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 12:58 am

Mel Stottlemyer Jr looks like Randy the Ram

281 Raf   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:00 am

[265] Seems the butcher boy play was on.

282 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:01 am

Given Jeter's recent trends, that's a pretty miraculous walk.

283 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:01 am

Jeter has been walking quite a bit lately

284 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:01 am

Please, let this walk haunt.

285 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:01 am

good ab, jetes.

let's go swish!

286 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:02 am

[284] i like that. les claypool shoulda said "walk will haunt" instead of "dog will hunt"!

287 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:04 am

Please, Teix, nothing on the ground.

288 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:04 am

I hope we walk the bases loaded and then strike out looking and hit into a DP.

289 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:05 am

The PST for the trail runner. Its been a while since we busted that one out

290 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:05 am

Bunt Teix? I kid...sort of.

291 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:05 am

Kenny just mentioned an amazing stat: of the 11 walks (the two here still pending), only one has scored. That's the biggest disgrace of all.

292 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:05 am

let's go Kurt Teixeira!!!

293 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:06 am

Aside from the silliness of pinch running for Swisher, who is not that slow and plays decent OF defense, why run...Russo?

294 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:06 am

Did he just say that a ninth inning rally could serve as a deodorant?

295 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:07 am

[293]

Did you expect it?

296 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:07 am

[291] Jeez, that is bad. I guess walks haven't haunted much in this game.

297 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:07 am

FLY BALL.

298 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:07 am

My wife is cringing at the definite prospects of extra baseball!

303 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:09 am

yeah, pinch running for swish is a head scratcher. plus, swish has been fine in the field and russo is an infielder by trade.

TIE GAME!!! good job, a-rod.

c'mon Ripper. do it for Cult!!!

304 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:09 am

ah, it'll have to be Brainiac!

i guess AJ Hinch doesn't have a "binder". brains has been on fire with risp...

305 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:10 am

It's 1 am. Extra innings would be pretty brutal for us east coasters.

306 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:11 am

Ah yes...the wisdom of batting Cervelli 6th. Girardi manages to do so much each game to prevent his team of winning. The Yankees should get extra credit for winning in spite of him.

307 JeremyM   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:11 am

Good Lord, swing the bat. I'm not able to watch this one, but I believe that is the third time they've went down looking with runners on and two outs.

308 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:12 am

[300] But no one saw it coming.

309 JeremyM   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:12 am

I've come to the conclusion that all managers are morons, you just have to hope your team gets one less dumb than the others. Not sure if Girardi fills the bill or not.

310 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:13 am

Tying the game with runners on first and second is simply not good enough.

So, it looks likes Girardi has burned through Robertson, Joba and Mo for one inning a piece. Great management.

311 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:13 am

Girardi must have been really, really committed to not having Posada in the field or else he would have double switched, which in turn would have allowed him to PH for Cervelli. Then again, with the current bench who would PH?

312 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:13 am

Does Girardi get an orgasm every time he pulls a double switch?

313 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:14 am

Wow. Torre would never do this.

314 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:14 am

315 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:15 am

[313] yes. i'm very glad Mo is in now!

317 Raf   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:16 am

I'm more surprised that Chamberlain couldn't go another inning, though I understand that if Rivera's warming up, he's going to come in.

318 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:16 am

"Rusty Ryal?"

319 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:18 am

With the off day tomorrow, mo is definitely going two innings tonight. Now, as William points out, why Joba can't go two is a bit of a mystery.

320 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:18 am

[319] He's at catering.

322 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:20 am

[319] Did Girardi remember to double switch?

323 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:20 am

My guess is that Girardi's worried that if Joba went another inning, there would be no need for Mo.

324 thelarmis   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:20 am

thank you, Mo!

i was hoping he'd do that on fewer than 19 pitches, in case we needed him to save the game next inning...

325 monkeypants   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:21 am

Uh-oh..just lost the audio. Must follow on game day.

326 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:21 am

[323] I agree with that, but then why not have Robertson throw two and then go to Mo with Joba in reserve instead of Park or Guadin.

327 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:21 am

[322] Yes. Chad Huffman's now batting third in this inning. Rivera hits in Swisher/Russo's spot.

328 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:22 am

[324] I get worried anytime I hear "longest streak of Mo's career"

353 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:29 am

[351] oh crap hopefully gritner is ok

356 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:30 am

[352] Yes, Gritner slid into first, which, actually, was probably the only way he would have made it in. Running standing up, he would have been blocked by Rosa.

357 seamus   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:31 am

nice to tune in just as grandy goes deep. And I see that the fake blood sox and the team formerly known as the devil rays both lost.

365 randym77   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:33 am

Gardy did slide head first a la Melky, but I think it was the right thing to do in this case. He was trying to avoid being tagged.

Boone Logan better not be coming into this game

377 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:36 am

396 williamnyy23   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:41 am

Very predictable...this game was poorly played and foolishly managed. The Yankees have managed to lose a game to bad team who played an awful game. You can get more disgraceful than this. What a pathetic non-effort for a supposedly good team.

397 mjpucci   ~  Jun 24, 2010 1:41 am

[435] And that dingus, Papelbon had the temerity to compare himself to Mo. I remember everyone was like, "let's see you do it as long as Mo has."

On a night when Papelbon coughed it up, Mo went Saint Mo on their asses at the end.

There is only ONE MARIANO. You would have to be as dumb as Papeldummy to not know that.

[397] Singleton is simply wrong - calling the Dbacks a bad team.

They are not a bad team at home. It's so painfully fucking simple. They are average at home.

They are AWFUL on the road, which makes for a rough pairing next series when we are playing the home Dodgers and the Rays get the road Dbacks.

That's what teams are. Two different versions of one thing. Looking at the wild disparity in home-away records this season, any other way of looking at this is just ignorance.

What is simply incredible is that as epically bad as the Orioles are on the road, there are a small slew of teams that are almost right there with them. There are some teams this year that should almost not bother to get on the plane.
