"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

I Think I May, I Think I Might…

I’m curious to see how Steinbrenner’s death will be covered during the All-Star Game tonight. I’m sure the announcers will talk about it and perhaps a mention of the Boss will be included in the pre-game ceremonies. Should be interesting. No Mariano for the American Leaguers. But I don’t think it’s going to come to that. Says here that the Nationals will get off the schnied and win in hand, 7-3 or maybe worse. All the same, I’ll be pulling for the Junior Circut.

Go git ’em, boys. Dare to be a Special.

Diggin the YES coverage of George's passing. Sterling was on with Kay and he does a great Steinbrenner. That's one thing that's coming up for me today, how funny George was, to laugh at, and sometimes with.

Reggie hasn't talked to any assembled media because he's still too distraught. There have been some candid reactions from former Yankees tonight and in this day and age of the canned quote and the speedy quick tweet, Reggie might just have one more great performance left. Man, I hope they just let the cameras roll and the dude spills his guts out. Hard not to imagine Ray Negron being close by...

I was gonna say, I really would have liked a Ray Negron react today. Talk about a guy who saw EVERY side of George...

I'm hoping/predicting Jeter does something memorable tonight

5 Alex Belth   ~  Jul 13, 2010 8:27 pm

Yeah, that would be great. Or A Rod hitting a Joe Morgan Big Fly.

I appreciate the efforts of those being honored but this Glee singing is BRU-tale.

I went to a baseball game, and an "Up With People" performance broke out.

are we really gonna have an exhibition game end at something like 2 am EST??

13 monkeypants   ~  Jul 13, 2010 8:44 pm

Is it me or the general mood or what, but the Nick Apollo album cover photo reminds me a lot of a younger Steinbrenner.

14 monkeypants   ~  Jul 13, 2010 8:45 pm

12) well, "it counts"' remember.

19 Sliced Bread   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:00 pm

Just turned on the game and zipped through the introductions. Fuggin' Angels fans booing every Yankee. Go fuck a rally monkey, you mindless twats. That's the home team you're booing, dipshits. Save it for the playoffs, if you can manage to get there, morons.

27 RagingTartabull   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:13 pm

Anaheim is one of the herbiest (yeah thats right) fanbases in the league. its rivaled only by Tampa

28 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:15 pm

[27] Tampa??!! Is it medicinal there??

29 RagingTartabull   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:16 pm

Pettitte to Hanley to Jeter to Cano. : )

43 RagingTartabull   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:31 pm

this is pretty cool, wfan.com has posted Suzyn Waldman's interview with George from 3/1/93 (his return from suspension) and the sitdown with Yogi from '99. I mean say what you will about Suzyn, but these should be fun to give a listen to.

44 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:38 pm

If this game started at 7 eastern or so it would be over by now.

45 RagingTartabull   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:41 pm

oh man this '93 interview is full of Tartabully goodness!!

46 seamus   ~  Jul 13, 2010 9:54 pm

47 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:06 pm

Robbie for MVP!!

51 seamus   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:08 pm

good piece of hitting for robbie. I was thinking he'd have to go the other way with it.

52 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:08 pm

But it will be nice if it turns out Robbie drives in the winning run.

60 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:47 pm

[58] Yeah, yunnow... good times >;)

I will say this for Ol' George: he did charity right most of the time. Nobody knew a damn thing about it unless the recipient told on him. Classic antihero stuff.

61 RagingTartabull   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:48 pm

oh no, really Hughes??

62 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:48 pm

Whenever I hear "great baserunner" I always think Scott Rolen. Give me a fucking break.

63 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:50 pm

[62] Timmah announcing the game??!

64 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:51 pm

67 Chyll Will   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:56 pm

I guess Hughes is no longer an eighth inning-type guy, huh?

68 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 10:57 pm

oh, fuck. i'm not surprised. i see mccann do that all the time here.

i guess 2 of those runs are on hughes's ledger. damn.

80 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:18 pm

We want Alex in the 9th!

81 bags   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:22 pm

Did McCarver just say that Wainwright has won all his games at home because the mound is the same height for every home game? Seems like he's forgetting the fact that the water fountains in the home clubhouse are always the same height also. That's definitely a major contributing factor as well. I always thought McCarver was good at this announcing thing, but now i feel totally let down. Bummer.

82 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:28 pm

those cleats are very...orange...

83 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:30 pm

rolen's got a gun

84 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:44 pm

we're going to regret this night come october. It's gotta be Arod.

85 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:45 pm

True Yankee Arod will go yard for the Boss if they play him. It always comes down to Arod!

86 seamus   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:46 pm

we're not going to see arod i fear. hopefully we do though...

87 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:46 pm

[76] or not catching them

88 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:48 pm

Nice baserunning by Pig Sloppy

89 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:48 pm

[87] yeah. i was referring back to the playoff game vs. the dodgers when he dropped the ball!

oh, FUCK YOU, fat liar!!! goddamn cocksucker.

90 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:48 pm

[86] It's just got to be now. A-Rod...clap clap clap clap clap ....A-Rod!

91 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:49 pm

92 Evil Empire   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:49 pm

[89] Oh I know!

93 seamus   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:49 pm

i can't believe that girardi just let the NL win without even playing arod.

94 thelarmis   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:49 pm

motherfucker.

a-rod for the tie...

i don't get it... insanity.

95 Just Fair   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:50 pm

Fire Giradi! ; )

96 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:52 pm

Well, we'll just have to win without homefield this year

97 JeremyM   ~  Jul 13, 2010 11:54 pm

I have to say I was pretty peeved that A-Rod didn't get into the game. When Buck's hit dropped, I thought for sure A-Rod was going to come in and hit a three-run walk-off. Guess it wasn't to be.

98 Mattpat11   ~  Jul 14, 2010 12:08 am

I'm told the change in my facial expression between the ball falling and the realization that Ortiz was running was quite comical

99 Mr. OK Jazz TOKYO   ~  Jul 14, 2010 12:35 am

[98] I would pay $5 to watch a replay of that transformation..perhaps similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-E1NfmSWxU
