Yankees 7, Rangers 2.

2 omarcoming   ~  Oct 15, 2010 5:57 pm

"Nobody asked me but," I am really glad the Yanks are playing in Texas. I hate bad weather games.

3 Sliced Bread   ~  Oct 15, 2010 5:58 pm

big ol' lobster pot of chili on the stove (ground beef, chucks of chicken breast, 4 types of chilis, beans, diced tomatahs etc.). Gonna be a great weekend of eating and baseball. Saving cornbread for Saturday, and Sunday. Chili and cornbread. Best CC combination this side of Sabathia. See what I did there?

Let's go Yankees!

4 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 6:11 pm

This the game thread?

If so, then:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!

WHY IS THIS DAY MOVING SO SLOW?????

5 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 6:29 pm

Via David Pinto:

"The game one home plate umpire in the ALCS has a history of squeezing pitchers."

Time to warm up the cussing.

I think the Rangers will get off to a quick start, say 2-0 or 3-0 and then after the broadcasters have their organisms, the Yanks in methodical, business-like fashion knock out CJ in the 5th or 6th to take the lead. The broadcasters will then get crabby. After some nervous moments in the 8th with Wood and DRob, Mo comes in to slam shut a 6-4 win.

Instead of lying on my sofa with bagels, muffins and coffee with the game on tv, I'm heading out to industrial Chiba-prefecture (think the dregs of industrial New Jersey) to work at an event...sigh....

Go Go Yankees! Go Go Banter!!

Yanks 8 Rangers 3

8 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 6:50 pm

[6] I don't think "organisms" was the word you were looking for.

9 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 6:58 pm

[8] Ha. You're right!

10 The Hawk   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:03 pm

[6] And then what happens to the announcers?

11 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:12 pm

[11]

they lie back and have a cigarette ... or roll over and go to sleep

12 Chyll Will   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:24 pm

[11] Can't it be both?

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:33 pm

Twenty-seven minutes...

14 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:40 pm

What the fuck channel is the game on, btw? Fox?

15 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:43 pm

[13] As you know...Texas has a whorehouse in it.

16 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:46 pm

I normally like CJ Wilson, even if he is a straight edger. Not so much tonight.

17 joe   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:49 pm

18 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:49 pm

[14] TBS. ALCS is on TBS, NLCS gets Fox.

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:55 pm

Cheers, guys!

20 randym77   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:57 pm

Who are the announcers tonight?

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:58 pm

Fuck, I'm nervous...

22 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 7:59 pm

[18] So, if you do not have cable or satellite no watching the Yankees. That's a lot of folks in the boroughs.

23 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:01 pm

CC ahead of CJ in alpha order. Just sayin'.

24 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:01 pm

[20] Some guy who talks like he's doing WWF and Darling.

25 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:01 pm

And Smoltz.

26 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:03 pm

[22] One of the factors in my checking out of baseball from my adolescence through college was the games' being moved to sportschannel, which we didn't have, from channel 11.

It's a travesty.

27 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:05 pm

START THE BLOODY BASEBALL GAME, ALREADY!

28 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:07 pm

Oh, hey. There's a game on tonight. : )
Go Yankess!

29 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:07 pm

Finally first pitch

30 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:07 pm

What the hell is John Smoltz talking about?

31 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:08 pm

Evening folks.
Here it is!

32 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:08 pm

[26] It is a shame that most regular season games are not available over the air, but league championship series? At least the non-cable folks can watch Phillies-Giants. Most baseball Giants fans left in NY are probably in nursing homes.

33 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:08 pm

And why is Ron Darling screaming?

34 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:08 pm

Solid contact. Good sign.

35 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:11 pm

Did I just hear "gyroball?"

36 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:12 pm

Yankees Suck chant. Yankees suck, but Texas snorts.

37 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:12 pm

Um, no, that would be the opposite of "reserve."

And I didn't hear much booing, or any, for that matter.

38 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:15 pm

C'mon on now, Big Fella!

39 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:16 pm

does the infield grass look really short ... cut quite short

40 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:16 pm

Oh boy

41 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:17 pm

I don't fucking care about your bald pates!

42 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:17 pm

Oh, this strikezone is gonna suck.

43 Ken Arneson   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:18 pm

CC is getting squeezed.

44 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:18 pm

its not androos ///// its andruhs

45 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:18 pm

There IS an outside corner you fucking bastard umpire.

46 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:18 pm

Getting squeezed already. Let's go CC, nice and easy.

I wonder if he likes being refered to as the "horse of the staff". Everytime I hear that, I think of how the horses were used in Animal Farm

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:19 pm

Oh, fuck me.

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:19 pm

Oh fer fuck's sake ...

49 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:19 pm

Um, I don't like this.

50 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:19 pm

Never liked Michael Young

51 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:19 pm

[46] hahahahah

52 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:20 pm

Low strike zone.

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:20 pm

How the fuck was he on that?
That was a change, no?

Holy fuck.

54 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:20 pm

[50] Hamilton less so.

55 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:20 pm

Fucking fuck fuck!

56 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:21 pm

Or a flat curve.

57 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:21 pm

Nice 0-2 pitch. Good grief.

58 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:21 pm

We're in trouble.

59 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:21 pm

Jesus.

60 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:22 pm

Hmmm ... fat man throwing FAT pitches.

Awful fucking beginning.

61 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:22 pm

[57] And I'll *still* take it over the Phil Hughes "three feet outside" waste pitch

62 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:22 pm

Fucking off-week.

63 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:22 pm

Can we please stop talking about game focking three?

64 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:24 pm

I can't take this.

65 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:24 pm

I just went back and watched Young's pitch by pitch ab. Yeah, that fucking sucked. Nothing like falling behind 3-0 b/c the ump's a douche.

66 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:24 pm

This could be going better.

67 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:25 pm

THROW FUCKING STRIKESSSSS!

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:25 pm

Why?

69 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:26 pm

FUCK YOU, UMP!

70 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:26 pm

[67] Hard to throw strikes when the zone is as wide as a needle's head.

71 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:27 pm

[70] Fucking squeezing the man's nuts.

72 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:28 pm

This is a horror show.

73 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:29 pm

Maybe this was the game AJ should have pitched? *shrugs*.

74 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:29 pm

How long before Girardi *has* to get somebody up?

75 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:30 pm

God, still just one out.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:31 pm

Thank God for Jeff Francoeur

77 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:31 pm

AGGHGHGHGH!

78 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:32 pm

He just can't throw strikes.

79 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:33 pm

Well being how CJ got like 2 or 3 of those calls in the top of the inning it's official the ump has it in for CC.

80 Eirias   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:33 pm

We're cool, guys. I got take-out pho for dinner and that has never failed to propel the Yanks to a win (N > 0).

81 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:33 pm

CC just should have laid on a couch for a week straight. Whatever working out he did was a fail.

82 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:33 pm

Holy Shit. Looked safe to me.

83 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:34 pm

Well, that will do.

84 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:34 pm

There you go now lets forget this inning every happened and get to CJ.

85 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:34 pm

What the fuck ever.

I'll take it.

86 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:34 pm

[82] Yeah on that replay it sure did. Maybe the ump is just incompetent.

87 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:35 pm

That was bad enough, could have been worse.

Oh, and the home plate ump has a history of squeezing pitchers.

88 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:35 pm

[84] Agreed.

89 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:36 pm

Jesus Fucking H Christ!!!!!!

Holy shit, would somebody wake the fat fuck up and tell him the game started???

That may be the worst starting inning I have ever seen from a pitcher who I didn't KNOW was going to suck. Kevin Brown was Kevin Brown, at least.

3000 fucking pounds, and I'm the one who's going to have the heart attack.

What the fuck was that???

90 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:36 pm

Strike % for home plate umps - 2010:
Highest: 65.1%
Lowest: 60.6%
Gerry Davis: 62.3%

91 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:37 pm

He was out. Sweet. Drop some runs on these mf's.

92 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:37 pm

Test

93 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:37 pm

He *was* out

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:37 pm

So, btw, wtf with PB?

Was Jorgie crossed up or did he just fail to catch the ball?

95 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:38 pm

Swing's a bit long there, Alex.

96 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:38 pm

[94] CC airmailed one over JoPo's head.

97 felix holt   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:38 pm

I'm preparing for suicide right now.

98 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:39 pm

The 'fat fuck'?
Here's a tip for you JJ.....

99 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:39 pm

[94] Probably a passed ball. Isn't that what Posada means in spanish?

100 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:39 pm

For the second time this postseason, Sabathia looked rattled. Hopefully he can keep it together and go at least six innings.

MOTHER FUCKER!!!!

103 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:39 pm

[90] Correctly called strikes to Michael Young. 33%. : )
Mother fuck him AND John Wayne.

104 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:39 pm

This isn't our night

108 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:41 pm

I hope we get a hit

109 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:41 pm

[107] Yup.

goddammitt

110 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:41 pm

After they shake off the rust, the Yankees will score runs. They just need CC to settle down, throw strikes and put up zeros.

111 JeremyM   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:41 pm

[103] Man, you missed a chance to tie that PE line in with Elvis Andrus!

"Elvis Andrus was a hero to most...." :)

112 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:41 pm

A 1,2,3 inning would go a long, long way.

113 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:42 pm

[111] That's why I said it. : )

114 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:42 pm

Alrighty, fat man, howz about a nice relaxing 1-2-3 inning of your own???

115 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:43 pm

[103] AND John Wayne!!!
Hear, hear.

116 JeremyM   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:43 pm

[112] I agree. He was so bad though that I dunno.

117 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:43 pm

118 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:43 pm

119 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:44 pm

Here we go again.

120 joe   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:44 pm

CC looked REALLY rattled. I hope he looks better this inning

121 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:44 pm

I forgot about Angel Hernandez

122 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:45 pm

They are just teeing off on him.

They're on everything.

123 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:46 pm

C.C. really has no command.

124 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:46 pm

Is it some sort of crime to refer to the fact that it looks like you could sail him all the way back to New York when he's giving it up this sweet?

Geez, it's not like that was my introductory post.

Forgive me, for after a brutal fucking week, hoping there would at least be a game to enjoy tonight. That effort was pathetic.

125 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:47 pm

Honestly.... 6 days off for the team and 9 days off got CC is just to much. I really didn't expect good things the first half of the game.

126 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:48 pm

Good play, Teix!

127 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:48 pm

Thank god for Teix.

They're banging the ball all over the joint.

128 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:48 pm

[125] Wilson had just as much time off...that's just an excuse. Sabathia has been bad, plain and simple, but he can still rebound and give the Yankees a quality start. If he does that, I think they win the game.

129 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:49 pm

That's more like it!

130 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:49 pm

Nice job, CC.

Good work.

Keep it up.

131 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:49 pm

Well, that was better

132 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:49 pm

[112] Your wish, CC's command.

133 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:49 pm

Alright, that might have been a sign of a pulse.

Maybe they can start to put something together against CJ Wilson.

134 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:50 pm

It's too bad this team does not know how to come back after leading Minnesota for 3 straight games. ; )
Thatta boy, CC! Here come the speedsters to rattle wilson.

147 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:59 pm

Oh, that was a ball?

148 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:59 pm

[142] Well that was on the basis of Jeter seeing a fucking pitch! Bollocks!

149 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 8:59 pm

Umm yeah Swish is up to hit a 3 run homer. Go Swish!

150 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:00 pm

151 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:00 pm

or not

152 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:00 pm

Jeter's AB was just bad...Wilson just walked Gardner, and he hacks away at the first pitch.

153 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:00 pm

I don't want this Liberty Mutual commercial anymore .... pulllllzzzzzeeeeee

154 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:02 pm

[153] Ditto

155 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:03 pm

That was the pitch CC shoyld have thrown 0-2.

156 Diane Firstman   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:03 pm

that was 11 years ago, at least, that they scored 2 runs in the last 60 innings ...

argh

157 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:04 pm

A hanging goddamn curve on 0-2 for 3 runs. My head hurts.

158 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:04 pm

Don't get the pitch selection.

159 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:05 pm

Thanks for hacking at that, Vlad.

160 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:05 pm

He is pitching just awfully. Can't locate the slider to save his life.

161 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:06 pm

This might be the first time in two years my confidence in C.C. is shaken, mostly because his own confidence seems to be wavering.

162 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:06 pm

Let me try something.

163 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:06 pm

[158] I blame Jorge. CC's been know to just throw what the cathcer puts down.

164 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:06 pm

Why did Derek swing at that pitch?

I know he's been doing that all year but I just can't let it go.

That was really abominable.

165 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:08 pm

Same mistake made to Hamilton. Yanks are in trouble in this game.

166 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:08 pm

[164] As a concession to his diminished bat speed, Jeter seems to be guessing a lot more, and I guess he figured first pitch after a walk was a sure strikeout.

167 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:08 pm

At least Jorge caught it.

I don't know how Vlad missed that.

169 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:09 pm

Of course!

This fiasco wouldn't be complete without a balk, would it?

170 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:09 pm

Oh fuck.

171 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:10 pm

172 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:10 pm

Darling's right.

That was a great play by Alex.

173 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:10 pm

[163] It would be nice if Cervelli started warming up...

174 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:11 pm

[173] Why? Only catcher worse than Jorge on defense is Cervelli.

175 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:11 pm

Ok.

Wasn't pretty but it was scoreless.

176 rbj   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:12 pm

Phew.

177 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:12 pm

Alright, nice recovery there by CC.

Still, the balk, not good to see.

178 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:12 pm

This is the kind of game where the Yanks need the big boys to come through. Tex and Alex need to answer the boos with some big hits.

179 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:13 pm

[171] Just don't call him a fat fuck, or people will act like you haven't been here all season.

Wow, it feels like this game has already gone five or six innings.

Only three innings in - let's see them start to put something together...

180 JeremyM   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:13 pm

[164] I don't know but it's getting old. He really should be in the 9 hole at this point but we're not going there....

181 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:14 pm

[174] Maybe he can generate more passed balls with that backstop.

182 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:15 pm

[180] Young was playing him deep and the grass is very thick. With speed on the bases, I thought Jeter might lay one down for a hit. At least I was hoping he would try,

183 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:15 pm

[181] Good point!

184 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:17 pm

6-0 Smoltz. Really? Because the Yanks haven't blown chances. Ass.

185 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:17 pm

[182] Jeter seems to have a Manny-like quality of late. It just seems like he's just going through the motions.

186 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:18 pm

[184] He's right...Rangers had a chance to bury this game.

187 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:18 pm

Oh, man.

Alex was waay late on that.

188 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:18 pm

Yanks need Arod to wakeup. He's been late since the ALDS started.

189 randym77   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:19 pm

Someone left an open tag?

Trying to fix it...

190 jjmerlock   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:20 pm

They are not at the same frequency as the Rangers right now.

It's been a long break; let's hope they start to find their way back into this.

I have no idea what the strikezone is

218 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:35 pm

To be tooptimistc......
CC is still off.... but managing to get through. We can let him throw 110 pitches and maybe get 7 IP from him.
Yankee bats are de-rusting a bit

Torre batted ARod 8th.
Gardner should be leading off and Jeter batting 9th.
I'm afraid that we will compromise the PS because everyone (except George, RIP) is afraid to put Jeter down in the order.

[265] Yeah but neither came with any runs. :(

269 randym77   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:52 pm

280 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 9:55 pm

[277] He had no chance on the inside fastball, something that has become common. His bat speed loss reminds me of Alomar's in his first year with the Mets.

I guess between "resting the regulars" and "murdering Tanyon Sturtze and pitching Wayne Franklin," the former is at least a slightly lighter turn.

I've been watching this game in Spanish. If I had the FOX announcers, I can only imagine the coronary would have arrived many innings ago.

[298] I thought he did all right as a Carp. About what you'd expect from his track record here.

.265 / .339 / .500 with 15 homers (not bad for half a season)

This year:

.198 / .283 / .296

Pretty big difference, IMO.

[316] I gave up quite some time ago

323 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 10:16 pm

More than Sabathia's ineffectiveness, the ineptitude of the offense concerns me. In particular, Jeter and Arod look lost, which is particularly troubling with four games being pitched by lefties.

I have to say. Six scoreless from Wilson. CC out after four. I'm stunned by this game. Just totally taken aback. I knew CC hadn't been sharp of late and Wilson had, but I really didn't anticipate such a lop-sided game at all. The 1-2-3 sixth from Wilson really drives the nail in.

325 thelarmis   ~  Oct 15, 2010 10:16 pm

[312] ooh, just realizing you prolly didn't mention sori's near 40/40 year, 'coz he actually achieved it!

We should send Gaudin in for old times sake.

330 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Oct 15, 2010 10:18 pm

[312] Yes, but Soriano eventually did go 40/40, which is why I didn't mention him.

Dustin Moseley = human white flag.

Phil Hughes has the weight of the entire season on his shoulders tomorrow. This is a huge loss.

C.J. Wilson: 25 four-seam fastballs, 25 2-seamers, 13 slides, 9 curves, 6 change-ups, 5 cutters + mixing locations. That'll do.

It's tough to lose with C.C. on the mound, but I just don't think the first game of a seven game series can be classified as a huge, unless you are referring to it hurthing their chances of having an easy series.

A Key Play:
ARod's hit was all but right at the 3rd baseman. Instead of manning up and getting it front of it, he tried to catch it to the side, and it was by him. He gets in front of that ball and Texas is still ahead.

538 yankintexas   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:22 pm

590 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:28 pm

He'd already "manned up" the moment he stood in at 3B with A-Rod at bat.

All right, they'll just have to hit the ball.

650 FreddySez   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:41 pm

664 thelarmis   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:45 pm

bollocks.

ok, Mo time.

please let it be of the easy 1-2-3 variety. i hope they don't show the replay of the game he blew here. (of course, they will...)

665 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:46 pm

[661] TWICE

666 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:46 pm

Even though I've only been in my 1st house 7 months, I'd be willing to bet it that this will not be a 1,2,3 inning.

667 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:47 pm

[665] I know! Mindblowing.

668 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:47 pm

That's how you wreck a rally with the bunt. With a better manager, Texas would have won this game and the Yankees probably would have had a bigger lead entering the ninth.

669 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:47 pm

[666] You just bet your house against Mariano Rivera in post #666? Did you also throw a black cat through a mirror when you wrote that?

670 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:48 pm

Rangers are hitless since the fourth.

671 FreddySez   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:48 pm

[664] you know the geeks in the TBS truck have had that reel racked and ready all night.

William, next time try reverse psychology on Joe.

674 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:48 pm

[666] The devil made you say that.

675 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:48 pm

[661] Because he's Joe FUCKING Girardi.

It doesn't matter that Cornflake sucks balls at bunting, "the book" says bunt the runner over!

676 Just Fair   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:48 pm

I'm way down on that Swish bunt, too. BULLSHIT, Joe. Can't get the picture of his stupid sign giving in the dugout. Bollocks!

677 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:49 pm

Wait? Golson for defense, but he didnt PH to bunt?

678 thelarmis   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:49 pm

that was a strike.

679 Professor Longnose   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:49 pm

[677] Yeah, a puzzlement.

680 randym77   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:49 pm

Did Girardi tell Swish to bunt, or was it Swisher's idea?

Cano should have had that one.

Sixteen hopper up the middle.

686 Cliff Corcoran   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:49 pm

Alright, [666] you get to keep your house.

I really thought Robby had that one.

687 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:50 pm

Fuck, if you were going to bring Golson on for Swisher for defense in the bottom of the inning, WHY WOULDN'T YOU HAVE HIM PINCH BUNT FOR HIM?!?!?!?

Since, you know, Golson's probably about 100x better as a bunter than Swisher.

688 thelarmis   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:50 pm

i hate this.

689 JeremyM   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:50 pm

Cano usually gets that.

690 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:50 pm

691 monkeypants   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:50 pm

Not an auspicious start to this inning. Come on, Mo.

692 JeremyM   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:51 pm

[687] I might be wrong, but I think Golson blew a bunt earlier this year.

693 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 15, 2010 11:51 pm

Can't sleep for a while after that.

I know, I know, 99.99999% of the credit to the players.

But that last little percent?

Lucky shower and shave, game on radio, spanish tv in the other window - lucky shirt and shorts went on, and the rally started!!!!

Few things on earth could have gotten me to switch a single thing up once that got going.

That was spectacular. And unbelievable. From the dead!!!

767 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:04 am

[763] exhausting game. I'm kinda glad i fast forwarded through a few bottom half innings.

768 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:04 am

How 'bout that Derek Jeter?

If you ask me, he made the difference.

Because we expect nothing from him and he really made things happen.

That first double was the inning. We all expected him to make an out but he didn't, he laced a double instead.

If he can be productive...

769 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:05 am

Gardner seems ok but he did just say that cj did step on his hand. What a great game for Robbie! So happy right now!

770 seamus   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:05 am

[768] yes, you are right. I can't remember jeter pulling balls and hitting them so hard that much this season. It was really nice and huge in this game!

771 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:05 am

Sorry for offending some of you with a reference to CC's bounty - and for the curse of the italics, which somehow I inflicted on the thread.

But it was NO CURSE! The boon of the mystery italics!!!

Dustin! Robbie for the "zombie shaking the dirt off" homer! Wood for the heart attack! Mo for the Close!

Exclamation points for everybody!!!!!!

784 williamnyy23   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:08 am

[771] When Gardner made that play, I thought of a game against the White Sox from circa 1993. Velarde, or someone, made a similar play and the Yankees went on to score 8 runs in the inning to erase a big deficit.

785 thelarmis   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:09 am

793 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 16, 2010 12:17 am

I just want to point out that the Banter was a little different around posts 50-550. Jeter's career was finished, Mosely was the white flag, Cano's solo shot was something not to care about, CC was not the big man but the grotesque rotund one, and so much more. Oh ye of little faith...never count the Yankees out with a gettable run total and many innings to do it.

Never underestimate the magic.

I was at work tonight, keeping an eye on the game and occasionally jumping into my office and checking the thread.

When so many here were on the ledge at 5-0, I smiled and thought - "Relax, knowing these teams, the Yanks could still win this thing." Just had a hunch - as a Met fan co-worker said tonight when the Yanks came to life, "I've seen this movie before."

I really was thinking what disappointed him more. And it wasn't political, it was real life and death stuff. Please take that back.

And, the tide turned on the banter here:
