Home on the Range

Yanks return to the scene of the crime. At least they are out of Detroit. Let’s hope for a mess o runs, piled high and deep. Yeah, and another good start from Ivan Nova would be swell too. Here’s Cliff with the preview.

Don’t burn the brisket and Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Well, that's good news about Chavez.

2 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 7:42 pm

Great Red Sox game so far. Wakefield just balked in a run, the fourth run so far for the punchless Twinkies.

3 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 7:46 pm

Yeah, doesn't look like Chavez thing will be too bad. That'd good. Sox giving up runs early? That's good too. Also, Andre Either hit a hard line drive in the first against the Mets...hit streak is alive.

4 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 7:49 pm

Good, the Dodgers fans could use something to get excited about.

And yeah, the Red Sox games I've watched, I dunno. The team looks like it just kind of sucks. Lots of mistakes, lots of helpless at bats. Adrian Gonzo let a hard grounder go by him with the bases loaded and two outs, fer instance. And the balk.

You can't go by how they look, but they look like crap.

5 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:03 pm

Cone! : )

6 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 8:04 pm

4) I just don't see the Sox sucking indefinitely. They'll turn it around. Hey, anyone think they might make a play for Jose Reyes?

7 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:09 pm

Atta boy, Cutis. You da' man!

8 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 8:10 pm

Holy cow. What a hit.

9 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 8:10 pm

What a fucking BOMB!

10 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:10 pm

Oh, jeez, Michael had absolutely no idea that one was leaving the park.

11 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:11 pm

[6] Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox do make a run at Reyes. There are constant rumors of them unloading Scu-scu-scutaro.

12 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:13 pm

Beltrté is Cano smooth at third. He throws as some wild angles.

13 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 8:13 pm

Ooof, Alex turned that over...

14 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 8:14 pm

[11] I want Reyes!!

Curtis tater? MLB.com tv taking awhile to load up here.

15 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:14 pm

Angel Hernandez tossed Tito after the balk, by the way. I didn't quite get why -- Francona just came out of the dugout calmly and, boink, gone. Then Joe West got into the action and for about fifteen seconds I forgot I hate the Red Sox.

16 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:15 pm

[15] I hate when that happens. Rope from Cano.

17 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 8:16 pm

Man, nice rip, Robbie.

14) IT was a blast. Upper deck.

18 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 8:17 pm

Nice, saw the Curtis bomb. That trade continues to be a steal!

19 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 8:19 pm

[15] Angel Hernandez and Joe West have gotta be the worst umpires in baseball.

20 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:21 pm

Tio Carlos. Ha.

21 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:27 pm

Is MK right that three assists in an inning is a "record held by many"? I think it's in principle possible to get four -- don't you get an assist if you throw to first and the 1baseman drops it, E3?

22 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:28 pm

Wakefield gone, 4.1 IP 6 ER.

23 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:29 pm

And Aceves replaces Wakey!

24 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:31 pm

If Brett can't get Posada to third I am going to be pissed.

25 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:32 pm

Quick, send in Frankie to PH. Harrison loves to walk our catchers.

26 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:33 pm

[19] Here is the shameful record of Hernandez in the current game. Wow, that's truly terrible!

27 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:34 pm

Hit the showers buddy.

28 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 8:34 pm

Hah. That throw wasn't rushed or anything. He just threw it away.

29 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:34 pm

Oh, good, a play.

30 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:35 pm

Oh, I'm waaaayyyy behind with mlb.tv, but [28] alerted me to something fun!

31 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:36 pm

[26] 11 missed strikes. Nice work, blue.

32 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:37 pm

Drew Butera for the Twinks plates Ace's two inherited runners. The Sox have two solo dingers, so it's now 8-2 Twins after 4 1/2.

33 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 8:39 pm

[26] How does he still have a job?

And Joe West...he got fined and suspended for shoving Joe Torre in a dispute over an ejection. I swear he held it against the Yanks. Remember Game 5 against the Angels, when he called Cano out for running outside the line? He wasn't freakin' outside the line.

34 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:40 pm

Wakefield is a little harder to call, but still, just horrendous.

35 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:41 pm

Bases full of Yanks
Batters stiffen, flail like mad
Lather, rinse, repeat

36 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 8:42 pm

Crap. That was kinda disappointing.

37 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:42 pm

Green light proves unwise.

38 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 8:43 pm

That sums up a slump. 3-0. Fuck.

39 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:47 pm

If Nova hadn't touched that Rob might have assisted the first five outs.

40 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:53 pm

Cliff Lee has 16 strikeouts and is losing in the 7th because Lowe's line is better. Hint-Hint.

41 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 8:54 pm

Ace balks in a run. Second run of the game that the Twins score on a balk!
I think the calls were correct, much as I'd love to blame Angel Hernandez.

42 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 8:58 pm

So much for that. I hope Lee k's 22 and loses.

43 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 9:03 pm

Wow! Great stab!

44 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 9:04 pm

Gimme some glove.

45 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:05 pm

Hell yeah.
Our infield rocks.

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 9:08 pm

Wow, Nolan Ryan looks like 100-yr old frog now.

Enjoying Cone back in the booth. Way better than Flaherty & O'Neil.

47 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:13 pm

[46] Isn't 100-year-old frog a Japanese delicacy?

So Red Sox starters have given up 8 runs in two straight games. And John Lackey has given up 8 runs in two starts already. (Beckett did it last year.)
Still, they'll be on our tails in September.

48 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:13 pm

Yeah, sorry to hear about Singy's mom passing away. Nice comment there by Coney.

Harrison seems to have really settled down.

49 Raf   ~  May 6, 2011 9:17 pm

Cone is great in the booth.

50 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:18 pm

The Rangers have made eleven outs so far, and Teix has ten put-outs.

51 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:20 pm

Make that eleven put outs.

52 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 9:21 pm

Any every find out why YES goes with the rotating color commentators? Seems we've been wondering about that for years now. Singleton, Flaherty, O'Neil, Cone, Leiter..am I missing anyone?

53 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:30 pm

Oh, Rob.

54 Raf   ~  May 6, 2011 9:32 pm

Jeter's looking pretty good on defense.

55 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 9:32 pm

[52] I kind of like it. You can't get too annoyed with someone b/c they are not around for too long. And you can feel happy when someone you like pops up. Like Cone this series. : )

56 Chyll Will   ~  May 6, 2011 9:36 pm

[46] Man, Ryan looks like a 100-year old frog with gas... or Yoda's older brother.

57 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 9:37 pm

[52] Maybe it's too much work for one person? Or more work than they want, anyway. A lot of teams don't get all their games on TV like the Yanks.

Having a lot of broadcasters mean they can cover makeup games, too. For many teams, a rainout means the makeup game might not be televised, because they can't round up people to work the broadcast in time. YES is pretty good about that.

58 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:40 pm

angel is the worst ump. country joe is right there with him. laz diaz ain't so good himself...

don't see the shit sox going after reyes with iglesias somewhat close... plus, i thought jed lowrie was the new ellsbury.

oh...hi guys.

59 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:41 pm

[47] funny you mentioned 100-yr. old frog. that's what i had for dinner tonight. i'm drinking coffee now. (no, i've never actually tasted coffee...)

60 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:42 pm

oh jorgie.

[sigh]

61 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:42 pm

[57] Hi!

Iglesias is overhyped. And Theo knows it.

62 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:44 pm

[61] yeah, but does peter gammons know it?!

63 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:45 pm

[62] Definitely not. But he's not in charge of whether they go after Joe Kings.

64 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:46 pm

[63] my engineer and i referenced tom lehrer's "new math" today, during our studio session! : )

65 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:50 pm

[64] And you know why four + minus one + ten is fourteen - one?
'Cause addition is commutative! right!

66 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 9:50 pm

I have never heard of Jaime Garcia of the Cardinals but his 1st 7 innings tonight are pretty good.

67 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:53 pm

Here's a cool stat list. In xFIP, the #3 pitcher in the AL is Jared Weaver.
#2 is Felix.
And #1 is Bartolo Colon.

68 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:54 pm

Sox lose. C'mon Nova!

69 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:55 pm

Jeez, Nova, hold it together.

70 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:55 pm

[66] ooh, thanks! he kicked some ass for the red birds last year, as their rookie 5th starter...

[67] and bartolo is #1 in our hearts, as well!

71 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:56 pm

Happy Day!

72 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 9:56 pm

Smooth Robbie.

73 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 9:56 pm

Dude, Coney just referenced Fan Graphs. Whao.

74 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:56 pm

I like Ian Kinsler. Could we have two second basemen? Let's get him

75 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 9:57 pm

[67] How is xFIP different from regular FIP? Can't remember..adjusted for home parks?

76 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:57 pm

[73] Cone is kind of brainy.

77 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:57 pm

[69] ...and he held it together!

let's just call him "duct tape"!

78 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:58 pm

[74] i do, too. plus, he's a fellow tribesman!

79 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:58 pm

[75] Oh, xFIP is almost exactly the same. It just removes the HR rate (on the theory that HR rates are mostly luck, I think).

80 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 9:59 pm

[78] I forgot that! I must have remembered subconsciously.

81 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 9:59 pm

no walks, no k's for nova. let's hope gets to at least 6.2 innings!

82 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:00 pm

[79] Interesting. Is HR Rate really "only" luck though? I mean, if you keep the ball down you'll give up less dingers..right? This is known as the "Kei Igawa Parralax" in Japanese by the way.

83 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:01 pm

That's my man!

84 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 10:01 pm

Granderson has been unreal this season.

85 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:02 pm

Goddam.
En fuego.
Right after Kay says the Yanks are overly dependent on the HR!

86 OldYanksFan   ~  May 6, 2011 10:02 pm

So I guess we can put the "we should have kept AJax" talk to bed?

87 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:02 pm

Curtis!!!!

88 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:02 pm
89 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:02 pm

grandy in double digits!!!

90 randym77   ~  May 6, 2011 10:03 pm

[66] Kay's curse strikes again. As soon as he mentioned the perfect game, Garcia gave up a walk, then a single.

91 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:03 pm

[86] that's been asleep for me since the beginning...

92 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:03 pm

[82] Oh, sorry, by "HR rate" I meant the rate of HRs per fly ball. So yes, the pitcher does definitely affect the HR rate, but (according to this sabermetric theory) only by affecting the fly ball rate. The fly ball rate is included in FIP. So instead of the pitcher's actual HR rate, xFIP uses the league average HR/fly ball.

93 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:05 pm

[89] For your sake I hope Curtis starts swiping some bases. He could be a 30/30 guy.

94 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:05 pm

[92] Gotcha. Thanks!

95 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:05 pm

[90] I've got 2 in one thread. [40] I think that's a record.

96 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:05 pm

so, was there any real reason why we dfa'ed kevin russo to add jess todd?

97 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:07 pm

[93] yes, please! and i was gonna mention that i hope kinsler gets back to his 20/20 ways, though not this weekend (or june 14-16)...and possibly october...

98 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:08 pm

[97] Yo thelarmis, you really have never had a cup of coffee? How about tea? Are you against caffeine?

99 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:09 pm

Man, look at the kid. Painting the black.

100 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:10 pm

Hey, a True Outcome for Nova!

Show/Hide Comments 101-167
101 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:10 pm

[98] i really have never had a cup of coffee. i drink barq's root beer, which is the only root beer to have caffeine (hence their logo: "barq's - the one with the bite") - that's the only caffeine i ever have. i can't stand the smell of coffee; it was never appealing to me. no, i don't drink tea, either. regular, iced, chai...

i got all my studio work done today, so i don't have to go in tomorrow. this means i get to imbibe the best suds of all: BEER!!!!!!!!!!

102 Shaun P.   ~  May 6, 2011 10:10 pm

Just wondering if there's any Yankees fans left who think the Yankees lost the Curtis Granderson trade? Did anyone keep a list of people who thought that way? I would like to mock them - repeatedly.

103 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:11 pm

and nova's thru SEVEN! good on ya, kid.

104 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:12 pm

[102] did you see that the Big 4 concert is playing Yankee Stadium?!?!?!

105 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:12 pm

Wow, just getting home and shocked to see we're still in the seventh. Was there a delay or something?

106 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:12 pm

[101] That makes sense. I'm not a root beer man myself but certainly like the real suds. 5th, 15th and 25th of each month is half-price Guinness night at a Mexican joint here, I am now a regular!

When will your website be up?

107 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:12 pm

[105] central time zone. it got me before, also!

108 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:13 pm

Howz about a couple singles in a row? That would be clever.

109 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:14 pm

Ohhh, Texas!

Late start, got it, never mind.

110 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:14 pm

[106] Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......Guinness..........

111 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:14 pm

[105] [107] Me too! I said so in the previous thread (which I thought was going to be the game thread because it was on top at 7:00).

112 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:15 pm

[107] Yeah, just figured it out. Very disorienting. :)

113 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:15 pm

[106] nice. i *love* me some chips & salsa!

dude - the website is UP! the cd is available there right now. i haven't linked my name here to it yet for a coupla reasons:

1) i'm still waiting for audio snippets to go up. hopefully next week.

2) i was waiting to check out the new banter and make sure i was comfy and stuff. it's another technophobe issue with me!

since you know my full name...it's that, then the word "drums" (without quotes, of course!) dot com.

114 Shaun P.   ~  May 6, 2011 10:16 pm

[104] YES! And I wish I had RIYank on my speed dial. The rock station in providence was giving away tickets plus a trip there and back earlier this week to the ninth caller. I was listening when they said the number, but they did not say the area code. I immediately grabbed my phone to call but then I realized I had no idea what the area code for providence was. Bad times.

115 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:17 pm

yeah, i got in from the studio around 7:20 and couldn't for the life of me figure out why the score wasn't up or the game thread at lohud. i was sooo starving, i just left for some slices. then, i figured it out...

116 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 6, 2011 10:18 pm

[113] Found it!! Well done, going to buy the cd!!

Got to jet now, hope the pen holds it.

117 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 10:20 pm

This might be Nova's best start as a big leaguer. Let's see if he can get a couple of outs here.

118 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:20 pm

Whoa, Ivan Nova, el va, si!

119 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:20 pm

Motherfucker works fast.

120 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:21 pm

[114] yeah, tix are waaaay expensive. for those that don't know what shaun and i are talking about...

The BIG 4 tour is: Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth & Slayer. They're the 4 prominent thrash bands from back in the day; it's been their nickname forever. They played a HUGE festival overseas last year. so big, it was played in movie theaters across America! i got the dvd as a b-day present last December, but still haven't watched it.

it was sooo successful, that they simply had to do a few dates in the US. Cali, Chicago (i think) and...Yankee Stadium. it's on Wed, Sept. 14th. tickets range from $105 to almost $250. they'll end up doing a few more dates -south/midwest - but it won't be a full blown tour...

121 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:21 pm

[119] I know. He's spent at least twice as much time in the dugout as on the mound.

122 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:22 pm

[116] aw, thanks man!!! i can't tell you how much that means to me; i truly appreciate it! : )

123 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:23 pm

Oh, hey, that was in the strike zone. Damnit, that's bullshit.

124 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 10:23 pm

120) Anthrax?!?! LOL. "I'm the Man!"

125 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:24 pm

Okay, let's just keep that Third True Outcome out of the picture, Ivan.

126 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:24 pm

damon homered again. he reached 2,600 hits the other day and is approaching 400 steals, 500 doubles and 1,600 runs.

132 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 10:25 pm

128) Noting is fucked here, you're being very un-Dude.

133 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:25 pm

[124] in all seriousness, Charlie Benante IS the man! *best* metal drummer in the history of the world!!! (in my humble opinion) the band is actually all kindsa excellent. they've been around forever, so there's some clunkers in their catalog, but they're amazing.

along with megadeth, they're the only 2 of the big 4 that are viable to me anymore...

134 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:26 pm

Hm.
I think I'd stay with Nova here. I mean, he didn't do anything wrong (except cover the bag badly). And sometimes Soriano... you know.

135 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:27 pm

oh, and anthrax are local NY boys, Yankee fans and include a coupla tribe members! : )

136 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:27 pm

[128] You missed some fine fielding earlier, too. All of our infielders were studs. Until now.

137 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:28 pm

[134] the *other* soriano needs to steal some damn bases. he needs 38 more. was a foregone conclusion and now seems like an eternity away... : /

138 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:29 pm

Okay, I feel better. Soriano okay.

139 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:30 pm

Not okay.

140 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:31 pm

That's your 1 Sori.

141 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:31 pm

Come on.
This isn't fun anymore.

142 Raf   ~  May 6, 2011 10:32 pm

[134] Yeah, but Soriano's the EIG. :)

Whew.
Phew.

(Sorry, my feed is way behind. Maybe 45 seconds.)

144 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:33 pm

[142] Ugh. And if we don't score, it's a Save situation...

145 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:35 pm

Heh. "Relevations" from Rex Ryan's new book. Yeah, I'll certainly watch that, Coney.

I love having bunters who can't bunt.

147 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:37 pm

Jesus Christ.

Another fucking play, another fucking wasted out.
I'd love to give Joe little electric shocks every time he thinks about putting on a play.

[147] I'd love to have an organization/culture of baseball where a guy like Gardner is not allowed to move to the major league level without perfecting his bunting skills.

Did Derek shave or something? He looks younger.

150 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:41 pm

[148] He laid down a pretty good bunt in the second(?) inning, but the Rangers had a 'wheel' play on and got the force at third. He should have been swinging away. It was infuriating.

Martin outfoxes Jeter. What?

152 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:45 pm

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible.

153 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:45 pm

MOTHERFUCKER.

How much of this slop can we take?

How many of these outs have we given away this past week?

154 Shaun P.   ~  May 6, 2011 10:45 pm

[147] Me too. It's 1 thing to throw away outs in a pitchers park against a team with a crappy offense. That's not texas and that's not the rangers.

155 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:45 pm

[150] I'll bet it was.

156 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:46 pm

O fer...
Unelievable.

Good throw, but still, you can't get picked off third.

157 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:47 pm

Okay, well, Mo time.

158 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:51 pm

Oh, sorry, Elvis, no streak for you.

159 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:54 pm

Nothing more beautiful in all of baseball than a Mariano Rivera backwards K.

Nothing.

160 RIYank   ~  May 6, 2011 10:54 pm

Thanks be to Mo.

161 Just Fair   ~  May 6, 2011 10:54 pm

All Rise.
Good on Nova. Horseshit on the offense except for Curtis.

162 Alex Belth   ~  May 6, 2011 10:54 pm

All Praise Due...MO!

163 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:54 pm

i love you, Mo!

Mo Rivera: Puttin' Heads to Bed, Straight out the Box.

165 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  May 6, 2011 10:56 pm

Why is Curtis wearing his mitt on his head? He looks so goofy!

I love this guy!

166 Shaun P.   ~  May 6, 2011 10:57 pm

Pure, efficient, and beautiful.

Who says Mo can't keep doing this forever?

167 thelarmis   ~  May 6, 2011 10:58 pm

[165] i think he does that a lot. like in spring training, and before games, when signing autographs. yeah, he rocks! i was a big fan of his even when he was in detroit. i used to read his espn blog, every entry.
