Odd. A-Rod DHed yesterday. I wonder if he's ailing in some way they aren't mentioning.

Brett is sitting again because of the lefty pitcher, I assume. And it's nice to see Martin again. Or anyway, I hope it will be nice.

2 a.O   ~  Jun 16, 2011 12:31 pm

[2] Indeed. ARod looked pretty good running yesterday too. Hope he didn't tweak something.

3 seamus   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:07 pm

heya heya, let's go Yanks!

4 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:11 pm

Get a handle on the curve, son. Missed the tag.

5 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:13 pm

So far so good!

6 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:17 pm

1) I'm sure with going to the NL, they are just giving him a day to rest.

7 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:18 pm

I love me some good baserunning. Puke.

8 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:19 pm

damn it swish.

9 seamus   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:19 pm

that was pretty bad. swisher taking lessons from posada?

10 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:20 pm

[3] seamus!!! hey there, stranger. i asked about ya a coupla weeks back. hey, i'm gonna be in state college next weekend...

11 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:20 pm

If only there was some sort of easy-to-remember saying about making outs at third base...

12 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:22 pm

[11] 'cept that's the "last out." swish was thinkin': "what the fuck, it's only the foist out..."

13 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:22 pm

oh, jesus. can nobody here run the damn bases?

where's chien-ming wang?

14 seamus   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:26 pm

[10] hot damn! yeah i've been mia this year. supposed to be in virginia next weekend but if not i'll let you know. it's 50/50 right now i think.

15 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:27 pm

Why didn't Robbie go to 2nd. WTF!

16 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:28 pm

gamecast has gordon in a Tex-ass hat. kinda weird seeing him face his teammates. i guess this is an intra-squad spring training game?

17 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:30 pm

[14] i'll be at Penn State one week from right now. so, i'll be around all weekend. i might be bringing my laptop with me, so you can be in touch...

the whole trip is booked, so it's definite on my end. unfortunately, the spikes are outta town, so no minor league game...

18 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:31 pm

It's hot here. I wasn't expecting it. Somebody get me an iced coffee. Thelarmis, you must have some.

19 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:32 pm

Ripper!

No?

20 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:34 pm

[12} I learned it, "Never make the first or last out at third base." Interesting to learn that it varies.

21 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:38 pm

Too hot for Jorgie, too.

22 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:38 pm

Hey a 2 out rbi. Cheers!

23 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:38 pm

But not for Russell!

24 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:38 pm

It's like Jeter never went on the DL.

25 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:39 pm

[24] Posada AB, of course, not Martin.

26 ms october   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:40 pm

yay - load up gameday to a 1-0 score.

[20] that's how i learned it too.

27 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:40 pm

Please don't greenlight Nunez on 3-0 again.

28 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:40 pm

[18] it's iced tea here. and, yes, i have plenty...since i've never had a sip!

[20] that works also! let's just change it: "it's always okay to make the 2nd out at 3rd base" : )

29 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:41 pm

c'mon nino - outta the park, baby!

30 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:42 pm

[26] yeah, but you're from the south, so it doesn't count! ; )

31 seamus   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:44 pm

[17] right on. if my trip is cancelled i'll track you down on here and plan to jet out to state college. it'd be cool to meet up.

32 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:44 pm

With four hits and a walk, it seems like we should have soaked CJ for more than the 32 pitches he's thrown. (I like getting to the Ranger bullpen asap.)

33 seamus   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:47 pm

[32] well there is always the karim garcia way of getting to the bullpen. or was that out of the bullpen?

34 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:48 pm

Swishalicious!

35 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:48 pm

go-go gordon!

36 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:49 pm

[33] Who?

Damn, I have to go. Someone send a text message to the driver of the Score Truck with directions. I think I can catch the end of the game, and I want it to be a laugher. (And in the good way.)

37 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:49 pm

[34] i couldn't see the play, but hopefully Swish now leads off with a long, unplayable (and fair) ball!

38 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:51 pm

Every time a good defensive play is made the player usually leads off the next inning with a hit by pitch. : )

39 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:52 pm

3 straight innings getting the first 2 guys on. Now score some flippin' runs.

40 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:53 pm

I have to stay for Teix! Now I'll be late for my appointment.

Eh, it wasn't really worth it. Stay for Rob!

41 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:54 pm

alright robbie, please cash them in! both of 'em...

(and yourself, if you see fit...)

42 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:55 pm

[38] yes! i'm very familiar with that old baseball adage. : )

43 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:56 pm

Not worth it.

44 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 1:56 pm

crap.

[40] go on. git!

45 ms october   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:00 pm

[30] yea, well it's not where you're from, it's where you're at :}

46 ms october   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:01 pm

i wonder if scott kazmir is salvageable.

47 rbj   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:02 pm

So how many LOB does that make already?

48 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:05 pm

[45] OUCH! yeah, i'll never ever ever get used to the ending sentences with "at." it kills me. i never heard it til i got to college in PA. i'll be back there next week... down here, it's the "fixing" and "cutting" of things (like lights), that i can't stand. i do like the "might should/might could" bit, though...

[46] prolly not. cashman said he hasn't checked yet, but might. mostly for the minors...

49 ms october   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:12 pm

[48] haha, yeah those are ubiquitous.

this might make mattpat explode but maybe kazmir could be a loogy :}

50 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:15 pm

Posada is hopeless against this dude.

51 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:23 pm

i don't like leadoff walks.

52 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:25 pm

Well he was good for 4. Now the wheels are coming off.

53 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:26 pm

That's why I ALWAYS want Gritner in LF.

54 OldYanksFan   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:28 pm

Can't blame the pitcher for our SS stumbling and a LFer with no wheels.

55 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:34 pm

Garbage. Fucking garbage.

56 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:35 pm

Damn it. He had Beltre.

57 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:35 pm

i really don't like giving up the lead. : /

esp on an 0-2 count...

58 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:36 pm

Good enough.

Wizard needs runs, badly!

59 ms october   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:37 pm

and riyank is not here to discuss the intentional walk to load the bases.

60 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:41 pm

Swing at garbage. Watch the meatball. Atta boy, Ramiro!

61 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:49 pm

uh oh. Other than the leadoff walks, I like what I've seen.

62 rbj   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:50 pm

ya more lead off walk.

/sarc

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:52 pm

Tough crowd here, one run game, well pitched by both sides. The Yanks certainly ran themselves out of runs in the early going.

Gordon looks good, and has done more than expected. Yankees makes work better.

64 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:54 pm

Hopefully the URP Rule works the other way, yes?

65 rbj   ~  Jun 16, 2011 2:54 pm

Yay caught stealing!

66 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:05 pm

My sincerest apologies, Jorgie.

67 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:08 pm

So Torrealba accuses Jones of stealing signs and he's not in the lineup today. Ron Washington talks about it like it's a matter of fact and even says Alex tries to do it all the time. How do you respond to this under The Unwritten Rules?

68 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:13 pm

nice to see Po hit the lefty and tie the game.

[64] yeah, i was thinkin' that early on...

i do think Gordon did ok, all things considered. it's been a pretty whirlwind few days for the guy. and he's facing a tough lineup.

that said, w/ the HBP's, he had an in-game WHIP of over 2. his K:BB ratio was even (which is terrible), he was wild with 3 walks and 2 hit batsmen... (oh, i see one of the walks was intentional...)

still, coulda been a lot worse! i guess he'll get another shot...

now...let's WIN!!!

69 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:13 pm

ah, fuck. i'd rather have the leadoff walk. : /

70 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:17 pm

sweet! : )

71 rbj   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:23 pm

I could only follow via game channel, but going by his line I think he's earned another start.

72 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:32 pm

Dealing Dave!

73 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:39 pm

c'mon Andruw. he's at 117 pitches. you're here to mash lefties. do it!

74 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:42 pm

[71] I agree. He threw a lot of strikes, got some swings and misses.

122 pitches for Wilson? Just how bad is the Texas bullpen?

75 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:43 pm

[73] Rough day for the Old Kid.

76 thelarmis   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:46 pm

motherfucker. we let wilson get thru 8...

77 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 3:47 pm

I'm back.
Not a laugher. Someone's not doing the job here.

84 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:02 pm

That would be Pinch Walker...

85 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:03 pm

Where's thelarmis at?

(I quickly scanned through the comments, see?)

86 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:03 pm

And here comes Granderson.

87 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:04 pm

[84] Pinch Walker, Texas Ranger.

Oh, that was hideous.

Teix, baby, time for a message. Let's go!

95 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:07 pm

[93] And low, too.

96 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:08 pm

Well, on Gameday that didn't look close enough to swing at.

97 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:08 pm

I'm not quite as fond of baseball as I was three minutes ago.

98 Marek   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:09 pm

SRSLY?

99 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:09 pm

Blowouts are fun and all but failure to get the big his is killing me.

100 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:09 pm

[96] Yeah, it wasn't close. Curtis was cranked up and committed very early.

[97] But are you sad?

Ugh. Oh Curtis...fooled on ball four walk off.

104 monkeypants   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:13 pm

[103] I hope it was only a case of him being fooled, and that the at bat is not indicative of a deeper moral failing on Granderson's part.

105 monkeypants   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:15 pm

Come on Swish, that should be your ball.

106 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:17 pm

[102] No, I am resentful. Because [104] It must be some kind of moral failing. He should have choked up, for example -- his pride stood in the way. (What will we tell the children???)

107 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:18 pm

However, I am now sad because I'll have to leave again, and this time I'm afraid I will imbibe the end of the game from John and Suzyn. Or I guess Suzyn must be at field level already, so just from John.

108 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:20 pm

[106] Tell them it was A-Rod's fault, what else?

(otoh, if you speak to OYF, tell him Jeter jinxed him from Tampa by yelling "HA!" at the TV screen...)

109 RIYank   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:20 pm

If Cano gets on, obviously Gardner would then bunt... (Michael Kay).

Obviously.

How did Gordon look?

115 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:33 pm

I'm at the office stuck with GameCast. Did Gardner have a chance to steal at any point in that sequence? Sure, he might just as easily have been doubled off 2B. But still.

116 Just Fair   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:36 pm

Please win now.

117 monkeypants   ~  Jun 16, 2011 4:38 pm

[115] How do you define a "chance to steal"? The pitcher threw over a lot. The batter swung at some pitches. GArner was running on the line drive. I don't recall if any pitches were taken. But if you define any taken pitch as a chance for Gardner to steal, then GameCast should tell you what you need to know.

Thanks monkeypants for the info, and for the side order of I-just-fell-off-the-turnip-truck.

There are tons of things you can't tell from a verbal web feed. Attention from pitcher, throws over? How good a move, since I don't have a mental video file on Kirkman? Breaking balls in the dirt? Fastballs vs. off-speed? Length of lead? Etc.

Go Yanks.
