"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Poor Little Rich Fans

The Yankees have not made a big trade or signed a fancy free agent so far this off-season. There is nothing new and nifty under the Christmas tree. But there is a long time left until Opening Day and even more could happen before the trade deadline in July.

I like that Cashman is being prudent. He’ll make a move sooner or later, maybe something big. The Angels and the Rangers will be in the mix for the AL crown comes 2012, along with the Red Sox, Tigers, and Rays, yet there is still much to be grateful for if you root for the Bronx Bombers. I’d rather them lay in the cut than have the kind off season of dumbness we were accustomed to during the George Years.

Amen.

Nova, Hughes, Garcia and Burnett all might be gawdawful. The season could be terrible. Same could be said of last year though and it was pretty good. I have no idea, but counting on that group to be good again feels like pressing our luck too far.

I agree, Jon. Plus, if Cashman fails to acquire a starter, this will mark the second straight winter that he has come up empty in a search for pitching, after specifically saying that pitching was a clear need.

There's still plenty of time, but there IS pressure on Cashman to get something substantial done before spring training.

Agreed. Plenty of time. You don't think he will actually do nothing, do you?

[3] I'm calling it now: E-Jax 3yrs for $33million.

4) Not going to happen. That headcase has pitched for a million teams, walks a ton of hitters, why would Cash want another AJ?

I think he will do nothing major. Nothing really expensive. (I said why in the Yu thread.)

What happened to the Kuroda rumors? Is he still available?

[1][2] Except that Burnett and Hughes were pretty bad last year anyway and things turned out ok. This year maybe we get more shit from Burnett, better Hughes, worse Garcia, and the same from Nova.

Whatever the case, I for one am greatly enjoying the quiet offseason.

7) He is but I'm cautious about a guy who clearly doesn't want to play in New York. There was a rumor from Tim Brown of Yahoo! yesterday that a team was close to signing him but he didn't mention which team.
