The Townes album I really love took me a while to find - Live at the Old Quarter, Houston. Townes at the peak of his powers as a singer, songwriter and storyteller. Hilarious, heartbreaking, great.
So many great songwriters came out of Texas in that period - Townes, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker (not a TX native, though), Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, et al
It was made by a friend of Jay Jaffe's. Yes, I'll check it out. Townes died during post production of "The Big Lebowski." I think the Coens had already planned to use Townes' cover of "Dead Flowers," but I'm sure that cemented their desire to pay tribute to him.

Al, you gotta Netflix the Townes documentary "Be Here to Love Me". Heartbreaking & beautiful - just like the man's music.
