And carry a boom stick.

For some reason, the title of this post made me think of this:

3 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:13 pm

A-Rod doesn't play third anymore?

4 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:14 pm

Wow, jumpin' Joe Girardi has managed to get Wise and Ibañez in the OF at the same time.

5 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:16 pm

[3] That's the luxury of having a versatile DH like Ibañez, who can play a little OF, not to mention a deep and versatile bench. It allows a lot more resting.

6 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:18 pm

Oh God Nunrz is contagious

7 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 5, 2012 6:19 pm

Don't warm up with Nune4567 before the game, Captain.

8 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:19 pm

[3] plus, when you have a prospect as exciting as Nuñez, you simply have to find a waymtomget him ABs. Recall: Montero = no position for him on the Yankees; Nuñez = starting 3B, BUOF and occasional DH. Step aside A-Rod, youth must be served.

9 Alex Belth   ~  May 5, 2012 6:23 pm

Hell of a start, Hiroki.

10 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:25 pm

I haven't stayed up to watch many games this year, but (as I commented a week or two ago) it sure does seem like the starters give up two runs in the first inning every game.

11 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:27 pm

Hiroki's sweating like a pig

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 5, 2012 6:27 pm

That's a strike.

13 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:27 pm

I think that pitch struck A-Rod out.

14 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:32 pm

Yankees pitchers' ERA by inning:

1st: 7.62
2nd: 6.92
3rd: 6.23
4th: 2.08
5th: 4.85
6th: 6.23
7th: 3.12
8th: 1.38
9th: 0.89
10th+: 0.00

15 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:44 pm

Much better

16 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:44 pm

hm..is it always so quiet around here these days?

17 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:45 pm

[14] UNSTOPPABLE IN THE TENTH.

18 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:45 pm

[16] Cinco De Mayo may have something to do with it

19 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:46 pm

[17] Yes! and the Fourth Inning Guy™ seems to be doing a bang-up job as well.

20 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 5, 2012 6:48 pm

[18] End of spring "Golden Week" holidays here, also not very enthused to watch the Royals..love Cone and Singleton together though.

21 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 6:50 pm

[16] And not much to talk about regarding the game.

22 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 6:51 pm

Well, this isn't going well.

23 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:52 pm

WTF was that, Nuñez?

24 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 6:52 pm

I'm not a fan of the have-more-errors-than-hits strategy.

25 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 5, 2012 6:57 pm

Every now and again I check gameday to make sure I am not hallucinating. Kuroda had Gordon struck out. grrr......

26 vockins   ~  May 5, 2012 7:02 pm

This is barely appropriate, but I thought some of the readers might appreciate the details of my contribution to the Red Sox Foundation Run To Home Base fundraiser:

27 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 7:09 pm

Very late here. Losing. Interest.

28 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 7:09 pm

[26] Heh. Funny cause it's true. Of course, Yankees aren't much better these days.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 5, 2012 7:14 pm

[27] You don't want to miss the chance of witnessing a Cinco de Mayo no-no.

30 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 7:15 pm

[29] Does MLB or Elias still consider it a no hitter if one team doesn't really seem to be trying?

31 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 7:17 pm

[30] Are you back in Germany? Or how long is that gig, anyway?

32 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 7:18 pm

[30] I'm in Deutschland for another month or so, then (sadly) back to Quebecland at the end of June.

33 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 7:20 pm

Dear Yankees, a simple request:
how about a hit.

34 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 7:25 pm

A hit!

35 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 7:25 pm

Thanks, Raul.

Now would it be to much to ask for a run?

36 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 7:26 pm

Did Martin always have that ugly tattoo?

37 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 7:26 pm

Can we conclude that Teix is now firmly in the second-half-of-sucky-contract-decline phase?

38 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 7:28 pm

Maybe they've figured out the slider.

39 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 7:30 pm

[37] I think he would have had to be better in the first half.

40 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 7:34 pm

I guess it was too much to ask for.

41 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 7:40 pm

At least we got a hit.

42 OldYanksFan   ~  May 5, 2012 7:52 pm

I am having to force myself to watch this game.

43 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 7:53 pm

[42] Real boring

44 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 7:56 pm

Gee, and the Mud Hens have a no-no through six. And last night they lost, looks like I keep picking the wrong games to watch.

45 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:00 pm

Listening to the Royals crew. We got Rex Hudler the pothead in the booth. He's fun to listen to.

46 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 8:00 pm

But of course a double play there.

47 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 8:01 pm

...why?

48 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:02 pm

[45] Heh.
You said "Royals crew".

Heh.

49 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:02 pm

This whole game is a Royals crew.

50 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:02 pm

Of course, a hit follows.

51 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:05 pm

[49] Good one!

52 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:07 pm

Man, Epley got Royalies Crewed on that AB.

53 OldYanksFan   ~  May 5, 2012 8:09 pm

Why does Grandy try that with our 3-4-5 coming up?
Because our 3-4-5 sucks!!!
I mean, the odds are they couldn't even get Grandy in from 3rd.

54 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:13 pm

These games should not even be close. We are supposed to beat up on the Central.

55 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:14 pm

I wish we had more pitchers. Wouldn't that be great? Then Joe would not feel so constrained. Maybe another lefty.

56 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:18 pm

Boooo.
Boone's job is to walk lefties, not hand them free RBI.

57 rbj   ~  May 5, 2012 8:19 pm

Good night, I can't take any more.

58 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:19 pm

That's more like it.

59 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:20 pm

Ah. An IBB. Now the evening is complete. It's a perfect Royals Crew.

I must say I'm getting slightly worried about who is going to pitch the eighth inning.

60 monkeypants   ~  May 5, 2012 8:20 pm

IBB? Now? Really??

61 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:23 pm

[60] If not now, when? This was probably the last realistic chance.

62 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:28 pm

Getz gets!

63 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:30 pm

[62] Russell rustles!

64 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:30 pm

And Russel has muscle!

65 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:30 pm

Mir geht's gut.

66 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:31 pm

[64] But Wise, why???

67 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:32 pm

[63] Crossed paths. Sorry, yours is much better and on point.

68 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:32 pm

Let's see how wise DeWayne is.

69 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:33 pm

Oh, sorry, Boatzilla, I am way ahead of you.

But start thinking about a positive word that goes with "Jeter".

70 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:35 pm

I think I have content lag going on here. What's the pun on Nuñez?

71 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:38 pm

Oh, um, "Hi, Nuñez"?

I dunno. He doesn't inspire me.

Ugh, I was really expecting Jeter to come through there.

72 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:38 pm

Derek dreck.

73 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:39 pm

Yes, High Nuney!

Well it's all water down the drain now.

74 RIYank   ~  May 5, 2012 8:41 pm

It is.
I'm going to have a drink. Probably finish the prosecco in the fridge. I mean, and not watch the end of this game.

75 Boatzilla   ~  May 5, 2012 8:46 pm

Good idea. I have a whole beautiful Sunday in front of me. Must end the torture now. Ciao.

76 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 5, 2012 8:50 pm

Rally time.

77 OldYanksFan   ~  May 5, 2012 9:10 pm

Listless does not even begin to state how these guys look.
1965 here we come.

78 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 9:14 pm

That game was a chore.

79 Mattpat11   ~  May 5, 2012 9:18 pm

And oh Christ, here comes Phil Hughes
