Dave Phelps in the biggest start of his career. Ellsbury and Pedrioa are back. And I don’t care how poorly Lester has pitched this year, he’s still tough.

It’s wet in New York. Let’s hope they can get this one  in.

Never mind the butterflies: Let’s Go Yank-ees!

Interesting, it's been reported that My Little Pony has been shut down with a broken finger:

In his place is that Ciriaco pest.

3 Jon DeRosa   ~  Oct 2, 2012 3:59 pm

[1] & [2] They said he would probably miss the last two games. Now he is giving it a try.

Plus the O's were complaining about the Sox lineup last night. That's the whelp of the beaten cur if you ask me.

4 Yankee Mama   ~  Oct 2, 2012 5:02 pm

Really? Since when do the Sox care what the O's think? Didn't the O's have their way with the Sox just a few days ago while we split a four game series with the Jays? Babies!

5 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 5:05 pm

[3] Thanks.

[4] Sox need to use these last few games as tryouts.

6 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 5:17 pm

Actually, in Oakland, one announcer read the Boston lineup to the other announcer 3 times, and then started laughing.

7 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 5:18 pm

Why the $189m cap in 2014

The threshold will be $189 million for 2014, 2015, and 2016.
The tax rate will increase to 50% for Clubs that exceed the threshold for the fourth time or more.
The Rate will be (15%) the 1st year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (30%) the 2nd consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (40%) the 3rd consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.
The Rate will be (50%) the 4th consecutive year the threshold is exceeded.

The Competitive Balance Tax structure under the 2006 Basic Agreement will be modified so that a team that moves below the threshold will be treated as going over for the first time when it next exceeds the threshold.

MLB bases the luxury tax on the annual average value of contracts for players on the 40-man roster and adds benefits. In 2010, the Yankees' payroll was $215.1 million, while the threshold was million to $170 million
(Tax owed is $45.1m * 40% = $18.4m)

Tell me If I have this right.

Scenerio 'A'
2014: $189m payroll - 0 tax
2015: $215m payroll - $26m over * 15% = $3.9m
2016: $215m payroll - $26m over * 30% = $7.2m
2017: $215m payroll - $26m over * 40% = $10.4m
Paid in Taxes over 4 years: $21.5m

Scenerio 'B'
2014: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2015: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2016: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
2017: $215m payroll - $26m over * 50% = $13m
Paid in Taxes over 4 years: $52m

So we save $30m over 4 years by hitting the 2014 cap.
I thought there were other savings, but couldn't find them. Are there?

[3] From ESPN:
NEW YORK -- Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was in the lineup Tuesday against the New York Yankees despite a broken finger on his left hand that the team thought would sideline him for the final two games of the season.

"I like playing, it's fine," Pedroia told reporters before the game. "Shoot, I get to compete two more games and then I have to sit around six months and wait until I get to do it again. I've got nothing else to do other than play football with a 3-year-old."

9 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 5:33 pm

[8] If nothing else he's one of the more quotable players in baseball. Laser show indeed.

10 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:00 pm

Blech.

According to Trenton Thunder beat writer Josh Norris, Manny Banuelos will have Tommy John Surgery on October 4th, putting his 2013 season in jeopardy. Banuelos was the New York Yankees' top pitching prospect entering the season and has been for a couple years now despite his young age of 21. Although the news was not surprising given his injury-plagued season and arm problems, it was strange to hear that they just now decided to have Banuelos go under the knife. He has not pitched in a minor league game since his last start with AAA Scranton on May 18th. Why did general manager Brian Cashman wait so long for Banuelos to have the surgery?

Josh Norris ‏@jnorris427

Cashman said TJ only a reality recently. "If we knew he'd needed TJ a year ago, he'd have had it done a year ago." #Yankees

It seems as though the Yankees were operating at all costs to avoid Tommy John surgery for their young prospect, which makes it harder to be upset about it. Obviously no organization wants its pitchers to go through such an intense procedure, and his X-rays may not have indicated that he needed it until recently. Either way, we can use Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg as a possible barometer for how long it will be until Banuelos starts to make rehab appearances, barring setbacks. Strasburg left the mound on August 21, 2010, then had the surgery done on September 3rd. It took him until August 7, 2011 to make a rehab start with the Low-A Hagerstown Suns.

Man, this has not been a good year for the Yankees medical staff.

11 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:12 pm

Bleh.

12 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:12 pm

C'mon Phelps. Jesus fucking Christ.

13 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:13 pm

Goddamit, keep that second fucking run from scoring would ya?

14 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:13 pm

Cody Ross is a long fly waiting to happen.

15 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:13 pm

Hey, Phelps: FAIL.

16 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:13 pm

Yep. That was quick.

17 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:14 pm

You know Lester is going to be sharp tonight, too.

18 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:14 pm

Lame.

19 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:16 pm

That could have gone better

20 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:16 pm

[17] You do, but I don't. You probably haven't watched him a lot...

21 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:20 pm

Way to go Jetes.

22 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:20 pm

Dag, Swish just missed that 2-1 pitch.

23 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:21 pm

20) I defer to you and hope you are right!

24 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:22 pm

C'mon Alex you old hunk o junk.

25 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:24 pm

[23] He's iffy. Downright bad earlier, recently just a decent pitcher.

Of course, he could still pull off an A-game.

26 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:25 pm

sunuva...

27 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:25 pm

Well, that's just fucking swell.

28 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:26 pm

Calling it right here. Yanks ain't winning tonight.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:31 pm

That son of a bitch! Ani infield single. grrrrrrr......

30 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:35 pm

"The Tigers' right-hander [Max Scherzer's] will miss his start in the regular-season finale in Kansas City after twisting it [his ankle] during the on-field celebration of Detroit's AL Central title Monday night."

It seems minor and he's probably OK for the PS, but this is good reason for a manager to BAN 'piling on', 'leaping onto Home Plate', and other unnecessary antics. Who was it last year who broke a leg doing this?

Imagine Cano hitting a HR to clinch the Division, then getting injured during the 'celebration', and missing the PS.

31 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:37 pm

This game is annoying me.

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:42 pm

[30] Kendry Morales 2 years ago. Teams were a bit more careful for a bit but the players have short memories and have begun doing stupid shit again.

33 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:43 pm

1 back now. Good.

34 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:43 pm

No base runners for the Orioles through three (Rays batting in the bottom).

35 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:43 pm

I'll take that.

36 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:43 pm

Well how about that. Nuñez. And, Ciriaco.

37 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:50 pm

Through three, Longoria the only human to reach base at the Trop.

38 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:50 pm

Ugh, don't like base runners with Phelps pitching to Ross.

39 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:58 pm

Chris Davis homer, Orioles lead 1-0. Big Game James loses his perfecto, no-no, shutout, on one swing.

40 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:59 pm

Thanks MLP.

41 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:59 pm

Alex is killin' it tonight! 2 for 2 with 2 rockets. Just kidding if you are not watching.

42 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 6:59 pm

Okay, Teix, get it right this time!!!

43 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:00 pm

Yeah, the Red Sox infield is looking like shit tonight, huh?

44 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:00 pm

A-Rod has two of the funkiest hits you'll ever see.

45 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:01 pm

We really can't afford to lose this game.

46 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:01 pm

Maybe Teixeira should bunt.

47 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:02 pm

The new dog doesn't hide like the old dog when I get pissed. Goddamn Fucking Bollocks, Teix. Fuckin A!

48 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:02 pm

Killin me, Teix.

49 randym77   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:04 pm

[10] Aw, that's too bad. And it is odd that they waited so long. He's been on the DL since, what, April?

50 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:05 pm

Phelps is dialed into that inside corner to lefties. Blue isn't having it. Matter of an inch, tops.

51 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:11 pm

Rays leave a man on second in the fourth. Still 1-0 Orioles.

52 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:15 pm

Russell Martin looks at a lot of strikes.

53 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:17 pm

Base hit for Miggy.

54 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:26 pm

The kid is doing his part. Time for the score truck to do some donuts on the wet grass.

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:29 pm

Ichiro! Beaut of a bunt.

56 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:29 pm

Okay, this is ridiculous. We have eight fucking hits and one fucking run. I CALL UPON THE SCORE TRUCK.

57 OsRavan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:30 pm

Ive got to admit. I was real negative on the ichiro trade at the time. But I was wrong.

58 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:31 pm

Damn, let's GO already.

59 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:31 pm

56) HERE HERE

60 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:35 pm

You know, Nick, sometimes a hit is better than a walk.

61 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:36 pm

Okay, that counts.
Now let's score before Teixeira gets a chance to GIDP.

62 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:37 pm

FUCK!

63 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:37 pm

Well the 2 Teix double plays were killers. Make some amends now Gimpy!

64 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:37 pm

Well, at least he has no chance at all to GIDP.

65 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:37 pm

Fucking Alex JUST missed that one, dammit.

66 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:38 pm

Grrrrrrrrrr.

67 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:38 pm

Teix is the RISP Dawg tonight.

68 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:39 pm

So. Frustrated. Worthless fucking weak ground balls 3 at bats in a row.

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:39 pm

[65] Sure can't say that about Tesh.

Jesus, Mark, would it kill you not to try and pull *every* fucking pitch???

70 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:39 pm

I think we should just be happy that Jones and McGehee aren't playing. Joe wasn't going to leave them out of the lineup AND hit his hottest hitter in front of righties

71 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:40 pm

A Rod's swing and just miss is so painful. Dammit.

72 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:43 pm

Daniel Nava is one of those feel good stories I just never got.

73 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:43 pm

[70] Yep, happy happy happy happy.
Ecstatic.

74 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:44 pm

Have I ever mentioned how much I fucking hate that waste pitch?

75 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:46 pm

Longoria watches strike three with two on and two out.

76 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:47 pm

Oh fuck me. Here come the matchups.

77 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:47 pm

Uh oh.

78 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:51 pm

Boooooooooooooone!

79 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:51 pm

Girardi's a genius. Nobody knows match-up like Joe knows match-up.

80 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:52 pm

Lester's gone at least 5.1 innings and given up at least 3 earned runs in each of his last 7 starts. LET'S GO ALREADY!

81 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:52 pm

Okay, enough with this shit, already.

Let's go SCORE TRUCK!

82 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:53 pm

[79] Get him a job with a dating site.

2RBI single for Miggy.

83 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:54 pm

For a second I thought the Sox brought in the Sniglets guy.

84 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:54 pm

83) Holy Crap, SNIGLITS.

85 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:55 pm

That's a start, Robbie.

86 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:55 pm

C'mon, Russell!

87 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:56 pm

No chance of Teixeira GIDPing us out of a run, so goddamutherfuckit let's get something going.

88 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:57 pm

Way to cut down on that Hack, Conan.

89 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:59 pm

Welp, down 1-2, will he do anything but whiff here?

90 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:59 pm

Right on Schedule. Good Ol' Curtis.

91 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 7:59 pm

This is fucking painful.

92 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:00 pm

This wacko could just hit one out.

93 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:00 pm

It's RICH HILL.

94 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:00 pm

OH FOR CHRIST SAKES ITS RICH HILL.

95 randym77   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:00 pm

So, if there's a division tiebreaker...do we get to use the expanded roster, or is it like the wild card game, and you set the 25 man before the game?

96 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:00 pm

I guess the boys feel they scored enough last night for 2 games.

97 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:02 pm

NICE

98 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:03 pm

And now...to DRIVE a run home!

99 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:03 pm

Was really hoping for a send there. Rats!

100 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:03 pm

All these runners at third are annoying.

Ichiro. Here we go, baby.

102 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:04 pm

103 rbj   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:04 pm

Nunez! Now we'll waste 2RISP.

104 OsRavan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

ooh. for a second there....

105 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

Wild Card, here we come.

106 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

Nope.

107 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

My bad guys, I wasn't sure of what to do so I sent the Score Truck down to Tampa to help the Rays out, then I changed my mind and called for it to come back. It broke down somewhere around North Carolina.

108 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

Mother FUCKER. And now, Joba to allow in some more runs.

109 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:05 pm

Right on the botton. Right at snozzberry. Oi! I can't take this.

110 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:06 pm

No one can hit fucking Rich Hill now.

111 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:07 pm

Yeah, Joe, its not funny. Its a big part your fault that this division is up for grabs.

112 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:07 pm

[110] To be fair, they had two hits and sounds like Ichiro hit it sharp.

113 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:08 pm

Throw. A. Strike. You fat cunt.

114 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:10 pm

Shields through 8 in Tampa, just one run allowed.

115 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:10 pm

Beyond fucking sick of Joba Chamberlain.

116 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:12 pm

[114] Just two hits. But one of them over the fence.

117 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:12 pm

I think Joba's getting fatter before our eyes.

118 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:12 pm

He's so deliberate.

119 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:12 pm

You KNOW this run is coming round to score.

120 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:14 pm

Thanks for letting us know how much Joba sucks at holding runners Cone. Has someone on the coaching staff let him know this for fuck's sake?

121 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:14 pm

1 more pin Rodney. Hey, Joe, why don't you take this lumbering bitch out of the game, here, huh?

122 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:14 pm

Upper Deck, here we go.

123 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:14 pm

2 run job?

124 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:14 pm

Not sure if anyone has heard this little statistic, but Baltimore has not lost a single game this season when leading after 7 innings.

Can you believe that? Isn't that impressive? They really have not lost a single game when leading after 7 innings.

Incredible.

125 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:15 pm

How shit must you be to have Sam Fuld hit for you?

126 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:15 pm

Good 2-0 slider.

127 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:16 pm

Another decent slider, not as good as the first one. Don't get too cute here, now, Meat.

128 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:17 pm

Anyone think TB is playing their hardest?

134 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:19 pm

[128] Well, it's not "after 8" yet. Unless you meant 8:00.

135 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:20 pm

Okay, now it's after 8.
Fuck, the Rays are really going to be shut-out when Shields holds the stinking birds to one run???

136 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:20 pm

2 runs, 3 innings. This can be done.

137 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:20 pm

The Yankees are bound to score more than 1 run, right? Right.

138 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:21 pm

This reliever is pretty good.

139 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:21 pm

141 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:22 pm

[138] I think he's their best relief pitcher.

142 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:23 pm

We need 3 walks and a balk.

143 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:23 pm

If we fall back into a tie, we really need to look back at this road trip, including the two horrifically managed games in Minnesota and Toronto.

144 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:23 pm

[141] Oh by far. 1.50 ERA. A true relief ace.

145 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:23 pm

146 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:24 pm

149 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:26 pm

Let's see some walk-off action in Tampa now.

150 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:26 pm

151 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:26 pm

[147] Oh, I missed one, wow.

152 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:26 pm

There it is.

153 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:27 pm

I cant believe this fucking team is gonna blow this.

154 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:28 pm

One goddamn poor inning from Phelps and 10 hits with run. sigh.... BIG FUCKING SIGH!

155 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:31 pm

One out BB for TB....

156 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:31 pm

Four pitch walk for Zobrist, with one out: Longoria up...

157 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:33 pm

[156] Slow slow slowslowslow!
2 outs

158 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:33 pm

Jeez, Longoria missed a fat pitch, too.

159 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:35 pm

Orioles win

160 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:35 pm

D-Rob is hammering.

161 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:35 pm

O's win.

162 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:36 pm

Okay, up to us after all. Can't believe Tampa got shut out.

163 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:38 pm

Mark, please. Get on base.

164 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:38 pm

if the Yankees can pull out a win, the day is still a positive.

165 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:39 pm

[164] Who are you, and what have you done with Mattpat?

166 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:39 pm

FAIL.

167 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:39 pm

So glad Teixeria was able to make it back.

168 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:39 pm

Cano is just going to have to put one in the seats and get it over with.

169 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:40 pm

[165] Its better than sitting here and thinking of all the horrendous losses that could have prevented this.

170 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:40 pm

This is Craig Breslow. He is actually worse than Rich Hill.

171 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:40 pm

This is so fucking deflating.

172 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:41 pm

I really hate this team.

173 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:41 pm

Oh fer....

Craig Breslow can barely throw three pitches in the strike zone. He's terrible. For god's sake somebody do something.

174 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:41 pm

Another runner to strand? Or the tying run? Curtis, we turn our desperate eyes to you.

175 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:42 pm

Okay, well, that's somebody doing something.

176 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:42 pm

I hope Curtis takes some pitches.

177 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:42 pm

Like that one, shoulda.

178 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:42 pm

What good would it do for him to steal? Grandy doesn't get singles.

179 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:43 pm

And here comes yet another whiff...

180 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:43 pm

Any reason in particular Gardner is in there?

181 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:44 pm

Oh, good. A play. Excellent. I love plays.

182 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:44 pm

Oh, this is just too rich.

183 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:44 pm

To do that, I guess

184 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:45 pm

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

185 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:45 pm

Incredible.
Breslow was going to walk Curtis. I don't think he threw one pitch in the zone.

He's just terrible -- you don't need a fucking play.

186 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:46 pm

Does anyone have any fucking faith in this team?

187 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:46 pm

Yankees just texted me to turn this shitshow of a game on.

188 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:47 pm

Probably their most pathetic effort in the most important game of the year.

189 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:47 pm

I've never been the Gardner fan that most seem to be. He's always doing stupid shit on the bases, or so it seems.

190 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:48 pm

[188] And there we go.

191 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:48 pm

I have better things to do than watch this team piss away the division against one of the worst teams in baseball. Bye.

192 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:48 pm

I like Gardner, but it's not the right call, esp. against a lefty pitcher.

193 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:49 pm

Couldn't get any worse, could it?

194 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:50 pm

I mean, James Loney.

195 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:51 pm

Yeah, we don't miss Mo.

196 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:52 pm

Fuck this Fucking Game.

197 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:54 pm

The only team without a win all season when trailing after 8. That could change in the 2nd to last game of the year.

198 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:55 pm

This would be a great inning to have that problem where the Yanks hit too many homers.

199 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:58 pm

Not dead yet.

200 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 8:58 pm

Now, NO PLAYS.

We'll take a walk here, Derek.

[206] Blade Runner

I jussssst looked into Gameday, what a start!

211 randym77   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:03 pm

This game is nerve-wracking.

Heck, this month is nerve-wracking. Kinda reminds me of 2005.

212 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:03 pm

Captain!!!!

213 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:04 pm

Or that.

214 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:05 pm

C'mon, Swish!

215 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:05 pm

[209] Oh, he looks like the replicant? I must have missed an important banter session.

216 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:06 pm

He'll walk Swish. Yeah, there it is. Of course, why wouldn't you?

Now let's see Alex draw a walk, that would be cool...

217 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:06 pm

Night of the fight, you might feel a slight sting. That's pride fuckin' with you. Fuck pride! Pride only hurts, it never helps. You fight through that shit. C'mon, Alex!

218 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:07 pm

Not even close to a strike.

219 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:08 pm

Turn him loose on 3-1 of course, right?

220 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:09 pm

Oh, my Mo! Teix again. Wild pitch! : )

221 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:09 pm

Gotta hit for Tex here, right? I don't trust him...

222 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:09 pm

Don't slide into first this time, Teix!

223 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:10 pm

Oh boy. Here we go!

224 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:10 pm

Well look at that. Mark Melancon. Our old friend.

225 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:11 pm

[221] Argh, I had forgotten that one. Ouch. Yikes.

226 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:11 pm

I'm not even going to write it, but if you-know-what happens here, I'm going to be very cross at a certain loaf-pinching mouth-breather.

227 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:12 pm

Ha. Mark Melancon.

228 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:12 pm

Just a fly ball...

229 Matt Blankman   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:12 pm

Maybe he walks...

230 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:13 pm

Is Mattpat still here to watch this team piss away the division against one of the worst teams in baseball?

231 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:14 pm

[228] This is what I'm thinking, too. Melancon can't throw it over the middle...

232 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:14 pm

Dancin' Melancon.

233 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:14 pm

Good job, Mark. You hit almost 130 feet. FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK!!!!!

234 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:15 pm

Well, at least you didn't GiDP again Tesh, so you've got that going for you.

In any case, I think RIPPER sends us home happy, right now.

235 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:15 pm

A HISTORICALLY bad day for Teix. Comes up with 8 men on base and causes7 outs.

236 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:15 pm

I would've pinch hit. I really would've. Screw his feelings.

237 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:15 pm

I give him the take sign until there are 2 strikes.

238 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:17 pm

[234] If he really came up with eight men on base, that would be historic.

But, yeah, horrible. Even one routine fly from him and we win. Would have won.

But perhaps will still...

239 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:17 pm

....

sigh.

240 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:17 pm

ugh.

241 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:17 pm

Well, now I'm pessimistic again.

242 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:18 pm

Nice game Teixeria you POS.

243 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:18 pm

244 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:18 pm

Brutal.

245 Jose Sarduy   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:19 pm

basses loaded and they couldn't get it done? big ouch!!

246 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:19 pm

Teixeira could have won the game just by dribbling that little dribble crap that Robinson just dribbled.

Fuck.

But, we're going to win. The Sox have no pitchers left.

247 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:20 pm

Why can't the Yankees take a gift once in a while this year?

248 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:20 pm

bastards.

249 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:21 pm

[245] You said it bruddah.

250 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:22 pm

One.

251 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:23 pm

Got to get Pedroia here.

252 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

June OPS: .515
July OPS:: .825

Sep OPS:: .802
19 HRs, 61 RBI

The guy has had some REALLY big Hits for us.

253 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

Nice breaking ball. Now finish him.

254 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

Tex canNOT bat fourth tomorrow or the PS (which could be one game).

If the Yankees don't win, someone will need to watch over him tonight.

255 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

No, don't walk him. Finish him. Let's go. Hang in there, Sori.

256 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

No walks. Outs.

257 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

Oh, man, terrible walk.

258 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:24 pm

Oh you're kidding. Are you kidding? Fuck that pony.

259 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:25 pm

Dude, Sori got away with one there to Nava.

260 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:26 pm

Hm, Rapada and Lowe. I would have thought Fred.

261 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:27 pm

The Yanks have 6 starters with as many or more HRs than doubles. That's kinda rare, ain't it?

262 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:27 pm

Nice. One more, Sori. Bear down.

263 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:27 pm

Mistake pitch for the K.

264 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:27 pm

Attaboy.
Two. One more, Rafi.

265 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:27 pm

Gotta be careful with this dude.

266 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:28 pm

Don't fall too much in love with the slider, man.

267 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:28 pm

"But, we're going to win. The Sox have no pitchers left."
Yeah... and meanwhile, the pitchers we have left are ________ ?

How about Andy?

268 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:29 pm

Now, finish him...but be careful not to hang the slider, Hoss.

269 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:29 pm

I don't think Pony can steal, actually. His hurt forehoof would prevent him from sliding.

270 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:30 pm

[266] Well, Soriano. Rapada and Lowe are next up, apparently.
But I want Fred if we can't score in the tenth.

271 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:30 pm

[266] At this point, you gotta save him for the potential playoff game with the O's.

272 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:30 pm

Good. Nicely done, Sori.

273 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:30 pm

Yikes. I thought Alex's throw was going to float into the 10th row.

274 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:31 pm

[270] Seems right. Although, just an inning from him might mean the difference between having to play that game and not having to play it. So I dunno.

275 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:31 pm

Orioles won 1-0?? Damn..late to all the night's action.

276 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:32 pm

I would just like to point out that Sox fans* are quite a bit less confident than we are right now.

*Just for the sake of argument, assume there are still some watching.

277 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:33 pm

This means a Cervelli sighting if it goes on...

278 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:34 pm

Hey Chavez batting for Stewart. That means we'll see Cervelli if the Yanks don't score. Nice that we have to resort to that in the 161st game of the year.

279 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:34 pm

[276] Yike, true.
Andrew Miller up in the visitor bullpen.

280 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:34 pm

Another whiff.

281 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:35 pm

Holy fuck, Curtis. Wow.

Only D-Lowe warming up for us. Interesting. Not Fred???

282 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:36 pm

[280] Groundballs >>>>>> Taters

283 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:37 pm

[281] That was apparently Teixeira's theory this evening.

284 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:37 pm

Oh, my heart beat just a little faster on that one.
Oy. Okay, this one goes to eleven.

285 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:39 pm

[283] Teix may have one more chance to choke in the 11th.

286 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:40 pm

Always be looking forward...but the 9th, bases loaded one out, just a little dribbler, or a 250 foot fly ball to win the game. Sheesh.

287 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:40 pm

Christ.... Lowe has a .312 BAA.
Wouldn't someone from AAA be better???

288 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:41 pm

Let's turn two.

289 Jose Sarduy   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:42 pm

all these left handed hitters against Lowe?

290 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:42 pm

That's one.

291 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:43 pm

Terrible.

292 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:43 pm

Teix always tries hard..can't fault him for being hurt. JoeyJoeJoe has to sit him if he can't generate any power...

293 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:43 pm

Fuck Loney. Fuck Salty. Goddamn it!

294 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:44 pm

Go get him, Lowe.

295 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:45 pm

2 down. good pitch.

296 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:45 pm

Nice. Two down, one to go. A Cervelli fist pump.

297 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:45 pm

Oh, why did it have to be this guy? Ha! They're walking him.

298 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:45 pm

Oh, shit. #77. That miserable fuckstain. IBB. Oh, boy.

299 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:46 pm

[291] It's not power. He just doesn't hit the ball square.

Ugh, I don't like this. With Derek Lowe pitching I don't want an IBB there, not smart. (Because he could very easily walk Iglesias.)

300 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:47 pm

Nice. Now, let's end this shit.

Show/Hide Comments 301-400

Hmmmmm. Why not Podsednik there? Odd PH choice by Valentine.

LET'S WIN THIS FUCKER!
Preferably on a Teixeira bomb.

304 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:48 pm

Podsednik may not be available.

305 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:49 pm

Let's go ALEX!

318 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 9:56 pm

[319] Hm, yeah, good call there, hoss.

326 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:00 pm

Ellsbury must have been playing deep in the gap to get that. That got out there fast.

327 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:01 pm

Now the Sox will score.

328 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:01 pm

Got under it. Phew.

330 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:03 pm

Strikes, Derek, strikes.

331 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:03 pm

Now, put him away.

332 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:03 pm

[325] All geared up for something that isn't 55 mph. Bring back those hands. Stay back and Boom. Liner into left. Good stuff. : )

333 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:04 pm

Don't try to field the ball, dickhead.

334 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:04 pm

Oh frick, D-Lowe, you know better than that. Jeez.

335 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:04 pm

That was an easy out for Cano. Jesus H. CHRIST.

336 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:05 pm

Fukcin bird.

337 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

Poor little guy.

338 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

Well, there's another thing you don't see every day. Bird delay.

339 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

340 Jose Sarduy   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

Tex is up against his buddy in the bottom of the 12th. END IT TEX END IT!!

341 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

Okay. Whew. Very easy peasy, good job Derek and Derek.

342 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:06 pm

Dear Teix.
Don't suck.
-me

343 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:07 pm

Yeah and the bird doesn't seem to be doing too hot. And that grounds crew dude didn't exactly have a light touch with him did he?

344 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:07 pm

[338] Awesome. Great drama.

You know Padilla wants to hit him. You know it.

345 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:07 pm

So now spelling F U K C I N (just like that) has to wait for moderation?

346 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:07 pm

Wonder if they bring in the lefty or they let the two enemies face each other.

347 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:08 pm

That was Alison Steele, the Nightbird.

348 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:09 pm

Oh, Andrew Miller. Probably just as well.

349 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:09 pm

What happened to the bird? and what's all this David Cone "Ichiro's chopticks" on twitter?

Feel so lonely with only Gameday on..

350 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:09 pm

Slide, Teix! WTF???

No, never mind that.

351 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:09 pm

Hey, a Teixeira ground out. What do you know?

352 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:10 pm

[344] That's me. [203]

353 Jose Sarduy   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:10 pm

END IT CANO END IT!!

354 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:10 pm

Dag, Cano had a good pass at that first pitch.

355 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:10 pm

Had a good pass at the second one too. Now, Miller will go off speed outside...

356 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:11 pm

Whoops. Meant [345] C'mon, Cano!

357 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:11 pm

[349] There was a sparrow fluttering around the field, kind of wounded, and an oafish young member of the ground crew chased it around with a PVC bucket, ineptly, for about two minutes.

No idea about Coney on Ichiro. I'm watching the NESN feed.

358 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:12 pm

Sigh.
Frankie, with no possibility of a PH.

Looking forward to the bottom of the 13th...

359 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:12 pm

Oh, Frankie.

360 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:12 pm

[357] Thanks.
I'm getting hungry but can't leave the game..oh Cervelli is up, so we'll go to the 13th.

361 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:13 pm

Oh, Frankie, shoulda swung at that!!!

362 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:13 pm

We're going to the 13th...

363 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:14 pm

Maybe Miller will walk him. Maybe. Please?

364 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:14 pm

Good takes.

365 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:14 pm

He walked him! Hey Frankie!

366 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:14 pm

Not so fast. Nice job, kid.

367 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:15 pm

Pretty sad that Cervelli puts together a better at bat than most of the team is capable of right now.

368 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:15 pm

Now what would happen if Brains pulls a muscle running the bases...who would catch?

369 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:15 pm

Turn Curtis loose on 3-0, right? I say do it!

370 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:16 pm

Interesting.

371 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:16 pm

[368] Girardi.

372 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:16 pm

C'mon Raul. A single will do. More than do.

379 randym77   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

Cervelli for POTG!

380 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

Nice Slide Frankie!!!!!!!!

381 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

I've noticed that when I make rash, general statements about how much the Yankees suck, they tend to win.

382 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

RAUUUUUUULLLL

Double HERO tonight!

383 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

LEON!!!

FRANKIE BRAINS!!!

384 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

Good luck charm, Cervelli scores one of the biggest runs of the year.

385 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:18 pm

OH HELL YES!

386 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:19 pm

Thought that was a routine grounder to short off the bat. WOW!

387 Bronx Boy in NC   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:19 pm

Frankie Brains!

388 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:19 pm

[384] I've always had an irrational liking of Cervelli, as have many of us. Chris Stewart just doesn't do it for me...

389 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:19 pm

Wow, Raul, you are the MAN, son. Thank you, thank you.

390 NYYfan22   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:19 pm

wow. Epic night in the Bronx.

Let's hope that's the last of the 2012 slopp-ass play for the Yankees. ugh.

391 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:20 pm

[381] I knew you were still here!

YAyyyyYYYYYY!

392 mhoward120   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:20 pm

Guess its never too late to win one after trailing after 8 - wonder if ANY team ever went through a whole season without at least one such comeback win.

393 cult of basebaal   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:20 pm

JUST DON'T ASK HIM ABOUT HIS MOTHER!

394 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:20 pm

388) Yeah, I'm with you. Plus, my wife Emily loves him.

395 mhoward120   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:20 pm

Damn, for the first time ever, I kinda miss AJ

396 Jose Sarduy   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:21 pm

lets all shave our heads to look like Raul!!

397 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:21 pm

You know, Derek Lowe has been a pretty good pick-up actually. He had a God-awful stretch but has otherwise been very solid.

398 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:21 pm

[373] I always will.

399 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:21 pm

This would be a funny game thread to re-read. All the sound and fury signifying nothing. LOL. GUILTY. And happy.

400 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:22 pm

Raul with the Win!
Brains with the Save!

[391] Lurking in the shadows. :)

Storming off led them to tie it, so I figured I'd stay quiet.

I can be very superstitious.

402 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:23 pm

[384], [388] Maybe that's what the Yankees have been missing all year. Someone who just loves to play the game, any opportunity, would play for free...remember when that was Joba?

403 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:23 pm

Mattpat, I'm giving you a Win Share for this game. If you had stayed here at Banter, no possible the way the Yankees could have won.

404 Mattpat11   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:24 pm

Just win tomorrow, baby.

405 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:24 pm

And now our attention turns to a Banter favorite: Hiroki Kuroda. He hasn't been awesome lately. Biggest start as a Yankee is tomorrow. We'll be here, baby!

406 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:24 pm

Win tomorrow and the division title is captured.

Can Dice-K summon some of that Koshien magic from years back? Can the BoSox show some pride and defeat their big rival? Will Bobby V pull out the mustache & glasses in his final game?

I will be watching!

407 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:24 pm

I don't know if it's Great or if it's Sad that our scrubs often come up with the big play.

408 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:26 pm

It's true that D-Lowe was a decent pick-up, but Ibañez, holy Mo. What a signing. Damn.

Wow, what a game, wouldn't have missed it. I wish thelarmis could have hung with us.

409 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:27 pm

Wow, Kuroda against Dice-K, yeah. Man.

We're going to need both Mr. OK and Boatzilla for this one.

410 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:28 pm

It unbelieveable, but this is a 94 Win club.

411 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:29 pm

[410] 95 wouldn't be so bad...

412 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:29 pm

[398] thanks RIYank. May, I hit that "post comment" and there was a seeing-eye base hit.

I've got buddies in Bal'mer bitching about the Sox laying down for the Yanks...such short memories.

413 Evil Empire   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:29 pm

man not may

414 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:30 pm

It that the first game we've Won trailing after 8?

415 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:31 pm

414) And not a moment too soon! LOL.

High fives to all you Yankee lovin' motherfuckers!!!!!

416 Ara Just Fair   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:32 pm

[414] Yes. [197] ; )

417 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:34 pm

[412] I think there's a lot of mojo to go around this time. Belth has to get a little credit, too -- his extreme pessimism gives the team a boost, no doubt in my mind. And Mattpat storming out of the room.

Yeah, you would think the Baltimore fans would realize that the Sox just suck. (Peter Schmuck wrote a good column about this today.) Anyway, can't complain about them laying down tonight.

418 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:36 pm

Red Sox postgame analyst, guy named Curren, just called the long shot of the GW, the "Brooklyn Bridge". Yeah, I'm watching the NESN post-game show. But I should call it quite.

High five, Belth, and nice job!

419 RIYank   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:36 pm

I should call it "quite", apparently. But I'm going to call it quits instead.

420 JeremyM   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:39 pm

[407] For some reason I was thinking about Sojo and Jose Vizcaino today. Remember the knocks those guys had in the 2000 World Series?

It's part of what makes baseball great. Sure, once in a while a John Paxson will hit a big shot, but usually it's the superstars in the NBA.

421 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:40 pm

Our bench: Ibanez, Chavez and Ichiro have literally saved this season. We are not in the PS without them.

Everyone remember how 'happy' we were when Cashman signed Ibanez?
I think Mattpat's head exploded.

422 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:40 pm

Thanks Raul, Thanks Cervelli, Thanks Phelps, Thanks AB. Goodnight.

423 OldYanksFan   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:44 pm

Hey... that's right. Gotta give Phelps some love.

424 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:47 pm

418) A true Bronx Cheer! But it worked as "motivation"!

What's notable about the Ibanez signing is that they picked him over what? Matsui, Damon, Vlad? Guess they picked right.

425 Alex Belth   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:48 pm

423) Yes, Phelps was really solid again. Good job by Boone and Joba, Robertson and Sori after that dinger, in his longest outing of the year, and of course D Lowe. I didn't want to mess with jinxes and whatnot but I'm sure all Red Sox fans knew the Yanks would win the game and Lowe would be the winning pitcher once he stepped on the mound.

426 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 2, 2012 10:50 pm

[409]I'll be watching, but may not be typing much. I will likely be in the hospital waiting room. Nothing serious.

I predict Ichiro will have a big game. He always seems to hit Japanese pitchers well. Or is that just my imagination....runnin' away with me...

427 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 2, 2012 11:05 pm

[426] お大事に, Boat. Hope it goes well.
I'll be on the Banter for sure, this one will be on national TV most likely with Dice-K vs Kuroda.

428 thelarmis   ~  Oct 2, 2012 11:08 pm

got 880 clearer than usual tonight and got to hear the whole postgame show on my way home from work.

wish i could've followed along with you guys. i set the dvr for tomorrow night's game (espn) and hope to come home to see a victory for division and top seed!

GO YANKS!!!
