I'll watch the game to see the good-looking waitresses the Jays have working in the primo sections behind home plate, and also to see if Mo shows up.
It's a short list of reasons to watch, but there's at least two of 'em for you.

2 MSM35   ~  Sep 18, 2013 3:58 pm

I like Phil Hughes. I hope that doesn't get me banned.

[2] Boooooooooooooo!

4 Chyll Will   ~  Sep 18, 2013 4:11 pm

[2] Only if the cursing and gnashing of teeth that potentially follows his outings these days is unfairly directed at fellow Banterites despite numerous warnings (I've seen some things, man, and some stuff...)

5 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 4:57 pm

Phil's start should be interesting. And by interesting I mean suck.

6 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 5:26 pm

Well, technically, this is a Phil start, but not a Phil "start".

It's a tandem Phil/Huff start, where Phil is expected to go once (or so) through the order and then turn it over to Huff to do the same before going to the bullpen.

Here's an post from RAB on the arrangement from yesterday.

http://riveraveblues.com/2013/09/the-hughes-huff-tandem-an-unconventional-solution-to-a-big-rotation-problem-94357/

we'll see if it works ...

Nothing quite like a Phil Hughes game to get you excited.

8 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:11 pm

Good start.
(I have no idea whether it's a good 'start'.)

9 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:18 pm

He's surprised that Robinson Cano, who is slower than me, isn't running?

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:18 pm

Soriano swinging at two balls out of the zone and then watching strike 3 was not good.

11 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:24 pm

I wouldn't be against non tendering Cervelli and figuring out something with Murphy next year

12 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:29 pm

Just as long as I don't have to watch another year of Chris Stewart.

13 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:30 pm

I wonder when anyone last called hughes "phil franchise" and meant it.

14 Evil Empire   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:33 pm

Do yall remember posters on this very blog (not me -- I drank Koolaid) warning that Joba, IPK and Phranchise might be the Mets "young guns" reincarnated? Seems so very long ago now. Granted IPK was traded but still...

15 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:41 pm

Maybe when he's only going to pitch half a game, Phil just gives up these half-homers.

16 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:58 pm

The Yankees play, they may win. The string is still not the only thing. And we might get Mo. Can we celebrate a ,500 season? With all the drama this year, I say yes.

17 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:59 pm

Plus we get a baby catcher.

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 6:59 pm

Well, yes, that's physics folks ...

19 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:00 pm

Well, three scoreless innings from Phil, and just two hits.

20 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:01 pm

[18] What is?
I've been listening to the Jays crew.

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:02 pm

Hughes will end up in Oakland, or some NL West team and win 20 games.

22 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:03 pm

[20] The weight of various types of catcher's masks upon the potential for concussions.

23 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:03 pm

Has anyone else noticed the Foxification of the Yes Network, with all the sound effects for every graphic?

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:04 pm

[21] Oakland would be perfect for him. Seattle and San Diego, too.

I'd stay away from Arizona and, obviously, Colorado ...

25 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:05 pm

Wrap out a hit Reynolds.

26 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:06 pm

Wow, thanks Happ!

27 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:07 pm

Boooooooo!

28 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:07 pm

All Happ needs is a "y" to complete his pursuit. But does that apply in Canada? What are Canadians anyway, unpatriotic Americans?

29 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:09 pm

Wow, you suck, Reynolds!

30 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:11 pm

Play beautifull.....gag, Atta boy, Vernon.

31 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:14 pm

Holy Fucking Meatball.

32 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:14 pm

Ah, there it is. A Hughes.

33 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:15 pm

There's the Hughes we know and love.

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:17 pm

[32] You piss on the plan, the plan pisses on you.

35 monkeypants   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:21 pm

This tag team pitching strategy is pure GENIUS.

36 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:21 pm

Phil could have done that. First big league homer.

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:22 pm

No, you twats, the "mistake" was not pulling Hughes to have a LHP face the LHB when you're already into the 2nd time around the order.

Also, if Phil threw "one bad pitch", why was there a runner standing on 2nd after a ringing double???

38 cult of basebaal   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:27 pm

Pretty damn funny to listen to this booth try and dance around the fact that Phil Hughes has been a fucking dumpster fire on the mound this year and everyone's sick and fucking tired of watching him flair about on the mound.

39 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:31 pm

Can Kay and Flaherty please stop saying if the Yankees had gotten a lead the jays would have just laid down and not given a shit about the game? But since they have a lead they are "now into it and want to win." Please! For the love of Mo!

40 monkeypants   ~  Sep 18, 2013 7:45 pm

[28] What are Canadians anyway...?

Oh dear God, let's not have that discussion! I live here (there?). This question is a sort of national obsession.

41 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:00 pm

Canada is really big. The mountains are very pointy.

42 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:12 pm

How about a run here.

43 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:15 pm

Jeez, Alex.

44 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:16 pm

A run!

45 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:17 pm

And another!

46 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:18 pm

Wow. The boys are glad to be rid of Happ, huh?

47 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:19 pm

Woo hoo!

48 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:19 pm

I'll be damned.

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:19 pm

If I knew shutting my computer would lead to 4 runs I would have done it yesterday as well.

50 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:26 pm

Damn plays.

51 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:35 pm

Mo damn play

52 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:36 pm

Mo time!

53 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:37 pm

Hmmmmmmmmm.

I just want to say I think this is a bad idea.

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:39 pm

So far, so good.

55 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:39 pm

Insurance please!

56 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:43 pm

If the Yankees do miraculously make it to the post season Hughes can be used to hold Mo's arm up as he runs in from the bullpen.

57 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:46 pm

Somewhere, Scooter is screaming "You huckleberry, a bunt is catching the ball with the bat"

58 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:54 pm

Ruh-roh

59 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:55 pm

Fuck!

60 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:57 pm

I remember a few months ago MLB network was trying so hard to make Kawasaki s star

61 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:58 pm

Good camera view on that one. Lyle had him all the way at third.

62 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:58 pm

Out at third! Now some 6-4-3 bingo.

63 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 8:59 pm

I can't stomach a gw single here. C'mon, MO!!!!!!

64 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:00 pm

Don't like that out. 2 in scoring position.

65 rbj   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:00 pm

Mo!

66 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:01 pm

Praise be to Mo. Thank greatness.

67 Mattpat11   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:01 pm

God Bless JP Arencibia

68 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:07 pm

Yippie. For what it's worth, the season; she's lives. Praise to Mo.

[40] I was just being provocative. I truly love Canada, and have some great Canadian friends and associates. Plus, there's always Hockey Night in Canada.

69 MSM35   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:08 pm

I still like Phil Hughes!

70 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:10 pm

[69] He seems like a good bloke, So Cal mellow. Maybe when he becomes an insurance agent you could do some business with him.

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:13 pm

That reminds me. I met Frank Thomas today at our local Stew Leonards. He has his own beer label, "Big Hurt Beer" and was doing an appearance. He was really great, and funny. I hope Thomas is a first ballot HOFer next year.

72 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:26 pm

[71] I very much want to try a Big Hurt Beer.

73 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:30 pm

[72] Corny, clear, not great but drinkable. The Big Hurt was proud that it had 5% alcohol but only 110 calories. I had to buy some in support.

74 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:33 pm

Huff verses Happ. This could have been the first time that opposing pitchers had one syllable four letter names beginning with H and ending with a double consonant.

75 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:36 pm

[73] Label? Pic of him crushing a beer mug?
[74] Sounds like one for Dianagram!

76 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Sep 18, 2013 9:41 pm

[75] http://bighurtbeer.com/

I think if I drink two, I will have a big hurt in the morning.
