The first place Blue Jays are in town for a 3-game series.

Tonight gives Tanaka and my gut tells me he’s gonna take a beatin’ tonight.

Hope I’m wrong.

I love O'Neill. He really is Scooter 2.0.

2 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:24 pm

Nice.

3 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:24 pm

And speaking of hilarious, lovable, local color guys, I once heard Hernandez refer to a confused and overwrought scorecard as "Like a bad acid trip."

Can you imagine?

4 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:27 pm

I really love Leiter, too. I could have a beer with him and watch baseball all day long.

5 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:30 pm

Fuck, nice play.

6 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:30 pm

Thief!

7 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:31 pm

After an eleven-pitch AB, Derek up there hacking.

8 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:33 pm

[7] Twelve. Brett hit the twelfth pitch.
I was thinking, dude could have a perfect game through three innings and have to leave with 108 pitches.

9 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:37 pm

:)

Indeed.

10 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:39 pm

That was a beautiful pitch.

11 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:42 pm

Now that's more like it.

I say we can win with three runs tonight. (Pace Belth.)

12 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:43 pm

[10] Which? The called third strike, right?

13 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:46 pm

He launched it into the upper deck.

It was some shot.

14 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:46 pm

[12] Right. Low on the outside corner.

15 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 6:58 pm

Hm.
Control problems.

16 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:02 pm

Wow.

The splitter.

He has balls.

17 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:03 pm

[16] I think McCann is calling the shots.
He was a very good pick-up, Brian McCann.

18 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:09 pm

Yay, a hit. Now cash it in.

19 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:11 pm

HOMERUN!!!

YAAAYY!

20 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:11 pm

Thank you Brett!

21 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:11 pm

[17] Indeed.

22 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:14 pm

A spinner=homer!

Yee Haw.

23 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:19 pm

Another spot for McCann to get that big hit...

24 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:20 pm

Man, what a lame first half McCann has had.

25 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:27 pm

Phew!

26 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:33 pm

Siddown Reyes.

27 coleman42   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:35 pm

[24] A generalization, to be sure...Great defender, terrible hitter, so far.

28 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:39 pm

Great walk.

29 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:40 pm

[27] Yes. See [17].

30 coleman42   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:45 pm

Kelly Johnson coming alive

31 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:47 pm

Driven from the game in the fourth inning by those loooooooooong ABs.

32 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 17, 2014 7:59 pm

[3] He's Keith Hernandez!
[4] Really? I don't like Leiter at all..find him arrogant. Likely we'd descend into arguing politics within 5mins over a beer. Cone on the other hand, I'd like to party round town with him!

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:00 pm

Oh, that was unfair.

God, I love watching this guy.

34 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:00 pm

Boy, he looks good now. Whiffed their three best hitters in order. But, high pitch count.

35 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:00 pm

Tenakkkkkkkkkka!

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:02 pm

I got something for your gut right here, Alex!

;)

37 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:12 pm

Tesh!!!

38 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:24 pm

Tenaka can field as well.

39 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:25 pm

Whew. Before I got a chance to say, "Big batter here", the danger is over.

40 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:25 pm

Can he come out for the seventh?

41 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:29 pm

[40] Betances

42 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:30 pm

[40] He could come out for the 8th! But the pitch count alarmists would fuss..104 now, he can start the 7th I would think.

43 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:31 pm

Hahhaah!

They would fuss.

I suppose Betances will do.

44 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:53 pm

Mmmm, more Betances

45 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:54 pm

That's unfair. I love it.

46 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:54 pm

Dancin' Bettances ...

47 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:55 pm

99 mph. Holy mother of god.

48 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:56 pm

My, oh my, Betances.

49 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:57 pm

And a crazy curve ball.

It must be possible to make him a starter.

50 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:58 pm

That's some serious nasty.

51 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 8:58 pm

I mean, the 99 mph fastball is not his best pitch.

52 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:01 pm

Jesus, that was a hit until suddenly there's some motherfucker standing in short right field.

This shit is absurd.

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:02 pm

Also? If you start hitting it to the other side, eventually THEY'LL STOP WITH THE FUCKING SHIFT!

54 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:02 pm

THAT was a great relief pitching performance!

Yankees quietly hanging in this year. Are there any great teams running away with it?

55 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:03 pm

That was pure filth.

56 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:04 pm

[54] The Giants, I guess.

57 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:04 pm

Alright Hammer, hurt 'em!

58 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:06 pm

[54] Tiggers are imploding. Vaunted pitching staff isn't looking good.

59 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:09 pm

One down

60 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:09 pm

One nail.

61 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:10 pm

I've been dealing with a ton lately so have not been able to follow the Banter. I'm sure it as been discussed previously, but what a tragedy that Tony Gwynn passed away so young. What a brilliant career and all time skills. Seemingly a beautiful person too.

His passing is profoundly sad.

62 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:12 pm

NAILED.

63 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:12 pm

Two down. Kinda ugly

64 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:12 pm

NAILED.

65 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:13 pm

Unusual -- the cutter is his out pitch tonight.

66 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:15 pm

[61] Yeah. It was. My uncle smoked, got the lung cancer. Died a month before his first grandchild was born. No one had to tell us not to touch tobacco.

67 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:15 pm

Jeez, Dave doesn't make these things easy.
Come on, bring down the hamma!

68 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:16 pm

Aw fuck

69 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:16 pm

Blargh.

70 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:17 pm

Sigh.
D-Rob will throw more pitches than Betances.

71 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:18 pm

Pitcher's ump ...

72 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:18 pm

D-Rob will throw more pitches than Betances.

Was thinking about that a batter ago ...

73 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:18 pm

This is not fun. It's supposed to be fun.

HAMMER HIM.

74 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:19 pm

That'll do, Pig.

That'll do.

75 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:19 pm

HAMMERED!!!!

76 rbj   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:19 pm

Three down! Night all.

77 coleman42   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:19 pm

David, how about a clean inning next time?

78 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:19 pm

NAILED!!

79 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:20 pm

[78] Rather see a quick inning ...

80 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:21 pm

And that is why I prefer Paul O'Neill to Al Leiter. Because Al is talking about the dangers of bouncing a curve when the runner on third means nothing and Paulie is not an f'n moron.

Nice win. Tanaka is unbelievable.

81 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:22 pm

"He keeps guys in line."

I don't know why I find that such a curious remark about Girardi.

Or about the team?

When asked about the manager, if the first thing you say is, "He keeps guys in line," that has to mean something, doesn't it?

82 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:23 pm

[80] RIght.

And yes, it was and he is.

83 Alex Belth   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:26 pm

This is how we do it.

84 RIYank   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:30 pm

Tanaka's "bad day" is six innings, ten strikeouts, one run. (As Brian McCann just put it.)

85 jjmerlock   ~  Jun 17, 2014 9:53 pm

[82] Economical.
