With Jeter hitting behind him I guess Ellsbury is going to have to steal early in the count.

2 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:24 pm

Hey Guys, there's a game on tonight!

3 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:25 pm

Sweet pick off.

4 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:26 pm

Thanks for that put, KC

5 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:43 pm

Big Mike looking good.

6 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:43 pm

So this is going to be one of those games where I look forward more to the other team's half of the inning than to ours. Sigh.

7 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:46 pm

There are many ways to reach second base, grasshopper.

8 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:47 pm

Ah yes, I remember that three salami game.

Thanks again KC!

9 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:49 pm

Interesting. Bunt now?

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:50 pm

Guess not!

No chess tonight??

11 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:52 pm

Worked out just a little worse than a sac. But if Ells steals, it's equivalent to a sac bunt.
Maybe it's inner chess.

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:52 pm

C'mon, Captain! For fuck's sake!

13 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:54 pm

Whoa.
A play. And it worked.

And Joe's play-calling is just inspired so far.

14 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:54 pm

Tres fortunate.

15 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:54 pm

Yay, no double play!

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:59 pm

Bashed.

17 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 6:59 pm

Aw crap

18 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:07 pm

Gawd, the Red Sox are completely useless. Already trailing 4-0 to the Blue Jays.
Of course, I'm enjoying their losing streak, but it would be nice if they'd occasionally beat one of our WC rivals.

19 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:09 pm

Oh, no, my mistake, or Gameday's? I probably just misread the scoreboard. No score in Toronto.

20 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:10 pm

What????

Stephen Drew?

21 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:11 pm

Hooray!

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:12 pm

That was a rocket from Drew.

23 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:15 pm

[22] I didn't expect ever to see that sentence typed (since is brother retired, anyway).

24 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:24 pm

Whew!
Right at Zelous.

25 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:31 pm

Looks Ike one of those games where team that hits the most HRs will win.

26 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:31 pm

I like Ike! Take that, autocorrect.

27 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:35 pm

Yay! Two homers and three runs for the Sox in the fifth.

28 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:41 pm

Nice job, Mike. Still looks strong.

29 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:42 pm

[23] oh ye of little faith.
Meanwhile, I love me some Pineda starts.

30 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:46 pm

That's a funny base hit.

Talk about sneaking it through.

31 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:46 pm

Take that, shift

32 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:49 pm

The play giveth and the play taketh away.

33 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 25, 2014 7:51 pm

I say this all the time, but I'd really like to see the thought process that led to that particular hit and run.

34 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:00 pm

He's out. I'm not sure its conclusive enough to overturn though

35 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:01 pm

Big Pine getting squeezed.

36 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:01 pm

Way to hang in there, Mike.

Just get one more, dude.

37 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:04 pm

Do-it-yourself!

Excellent start.

38 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:04 pm

Pineda!

39 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:07 pm

Martin the Dream!

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:08 pm

[25] Let's hope so...

41 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:08 pm

Pradoing it well.

42 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:08 pm

Pineda is works personified. After all that went down, wouldn't it be great if he can be as productive as promised? What was that pseudo-catcher's name again who was traded for Big Pine?

And Prado does!

43 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:09 pm

Hooray!

44 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:10 pm

[40] So far, so good...

45 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:10 pm

Hah!
Hah hah!

E6. We need one of these.

Zelous bunt for sure this time.

46 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:11 pm

The Wheel vs Wheeler, cool.

47 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:11 pm

7th inning is ok to bunt, not the third.

48 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:12 pm

Oy.

Plays.

49 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:12 pm

[47] But not if you do it like that.

50 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:12 pm

Damn.

51 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:12 pm

One big bag of suck, please.

52 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:13 pm

Me!

53 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:14 pm

Yay, Jacoby!

Way to pick up the Zelous the Penitent.

54 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:14 pm

Ichiro san.

55 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:14 pm

[51] Sorry, fresh out!!!

56 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:14 pm

Jeter HR?

57 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:15 pm

Yay Cap!!!!!

Looks like a line drive in the box score. (But it looked like another predictable grounder on the field, huh?)

58 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:15 pm

That was better. Whoo-hoo! These guys deserve a break.

59 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:16 pm

Oof.

Nice throw, damn.
Oh, was he blocking the plate?

60 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:17 pm

Safe!

61 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:17 pm

Ah, no, it's that he was safe. I think.

62 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:17 pm

Challenge! Tough call though, not a good angle.

63 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:17 pm

Wow, that was close.

64 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:18 pm

Safe!

65 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:19 pm

Yes!

Oh, man, this is a good/lucky inning.

66 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:19 pm

Safe!yes

67 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:21 pm

OK to take a deep breath and exhale, we got a 5-run lead,

68 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:24 pm

Let's not spend hundreds of millions on Shields next year.

69 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:28 pm

That was a food inning

70 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:29 pm

[69] Tasty, or you took time out to get a snack?

(Or more likely a typo.)

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:30 pm

I'm glad Hellsbells was called safe at home because of that challenge, it's just that this type of play has almost always been called an out. The throw beat the runner, the tag was made, the ball was held. In real time Jacoby looked out. It's one of those things where the reality was not as important as the execution, traditionally. What's baseball?

72 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:31 pm

So assuming Mike cruises through this inning... who will pitch the end of the game? Not (I hope!) D-Rob or Dellin.

73 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:33 pm

Ooh, smacked that one.
Let's not leave Mike in too long.

74 RIYank   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:34 pm

Yep, smart.

I gotta go do stuff. Banterers please don't blow this lead.

75 Mattpat11   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:35 pm

Dregs of the bullpen blew it for Pineda last week. Hopefully they can hold a five run lead.

76 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:37 pm

The new Big Fella. Needs to stay healthy.

77 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:46 pm

[74] Aye-aye, Cap'n!

78 thelarmis   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:48 pm

damn. looks like i missed a good game.

gotta cook dinner, comcast/espn is fucking me out of watching the game on my laptop, tv is downstairs.

feh and weh.

79 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:52 pm

good, quiet inning.

80 thelarmis   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:52 pm

hey - mlb.tv is allowing me to watch it! i figured the fuckers at the 4-letter network would block it out.

then again, my laptop always screws up the mlb broadcasts, so whatevs.

and just like that...one pitch and my friggin' computer froze!

bollocks.

81 coleman42   ~  Aug 25, 2014 8:56 pm

Hot diggity!

85 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 9:10 pm

86 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 9:11 pm

Two down!

87 rbj   ~  Aug 25, 2014 9:12 pm

Three down!!! Night all.

88 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 25, 2014 9:18 pm

An easy laugher win. Great way to start the trip.

89 Boatzilla   ~  Aug 25, 2014 11:16 pm

It's funny to read the thread after the game when you know the result. This one seemed like a Good Humor truck laugher, with fee Bomb Pops for everyone.

However, in he early going the negativity and pessimism was stinking up the Banter like burnt squid.

I'm glad we're all happy now.

90 YankInEugene   ~  Aug 26, 2014 12:30 am

[89]I know what you mean.Being on the left coast I often read the thread after the game. It's great how one can get the "feel" of the game through the game thread.
