Drip-a-Long Shvitzmeister III

skyline

My father was a champion shvitzer. Held the Upper West Side Crown for sweating profusely 16 years in a row.

I remember calling him up on days like today.

“Hey, Pop, how you doin’?”

“MOIST” he’d say. Or: “WET.”

He’d sure be drippin’ today cause it’s hot n humid here in town as the Yanks host the Twins.

Jacoby Ellsbury CF

C'mon Arod.

Tex time.

4 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:35 pm

[3] Maybe nex time.

5 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:35 pm

Yay, McCann!

6 GaryfromChevyChase   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:35 pm

That's McCann

7 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:35 pm

Oh hell yes.
HELL yes.

8 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:36 pm

Mac Attack!!

9 coleman42   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:37 pm

Brian!

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:38 pm

Gibson might not be in this game very long. I like starting a series by chasing the starter early. Wear out the bullpen.

11 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:53 pm

Uh oh

12 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:54 pm

Hm, good AB, Eduardo.

13 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:55 pm

Yikes, right in the face, hope it's just a bloody nose

14 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:56 pm

Yeah, that's a shame.

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:56 pm

Broken nose, maybe. Really hurts, not super-serious in the long run.

16 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 6:58 pm

Chilling. God Bless Bryan Mitchell.

The pill that Kay is, almost fainted on the mike.

17 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:01 pm

[12] Nuney deserves some slack.

18 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:02 pm

One game of intramural coed softball I played in high school, the pitcher got hit square in the mouth by the batted ball. Saw some teeth go flying. Awful.

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:13 pm

My only positive spin on Mitchell is that the ball had some serious velocity as it went into the outfield. Serious blow, no doubt. More flush and he could have been killed. Fucking yeesh.

20 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:20 pm

Ugh.

21 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:20 pm

Not upset by that homer, not tonight.

22 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:23 pm

oi...

23 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:24 pm

This game started so well, too.

24 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:26 pm

The black part of the plate. Try throwing the ball there as opposed to right down the middle.

25 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:35 pm

I missed the Mitchell play, is he on way to the hospital?

On a lighter note, my kids were watching the Chris Sale 17K highlights last night. They fell in love with Hawk Harrelson, then spent rest of the night pushing each other and shouting 'He Gone!', 'Put It on The Board, YES!' Are Social Services going to take them away from me now???

26 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:40 pm

[25] I imagine so, on both parts. Exposing kids to Hawk can be considered abuse.

27 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:44 pm

5 rib eyes for McCann

28 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:44 pm

Alex's stolen base pays off. NICE.

29 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:44 pm

Argue to keep Arod on first or Tex? I think Tex is slower than Arod...

30 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:48 pm

[29] I had to take the dog out. Paused the TV , a little behind...

27 an d 28 were mysteries to me.

31 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:50 pm

as far as baseball goes, this game is pretty predictable...right?

32 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:51 pm

for some reason, mlb.tv won't load on my laptop...

33 MSM35   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:53 pm

Next pitcher. This young man needs a break.

34 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:53 pm

Would be great if McCann can get 100 RBIs.

35 mhoward120   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:55 pm

Where is the American Sniper when you need him?

36 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:57 pm

cotham city not doing so good...

37 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 7:58 pm

Caleb needs to milk the cows

38 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:07 pm

the power went out at my studio and i'm having trouble loading the mlb.tv on my roku too...

39 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:08 pm

[34] you mean just tonight? Yankees might lose 101-100.

40 rbj   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:13 pm

So, I take it Capuano comes back

41 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:14 pm

Shreve has to get through this inning

42 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:15 pm

this game fucking sucks.

43 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:16 pm

[39] that's what RI would do to me!

44 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:17 pm

[42] they all can't be diamonds, even though...
At least you got the Mo slot.

45 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:21 pm

I think this idea of giving up one run each inning is working out well.

46 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:24 pm

[44] my studio # is 42. only have that room for two more weeks though...

47 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:33 pm

[46] My next birthday I'll turn 42! And I've decided to stop there, like RIYank.

48 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:37 pm

[47] Very wise!

49 RIYank   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:43 pm

Oh, finally. Not bad, JW.

50 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:49 pm

This definitely fucking blows.

51 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:50 pm

well, fuck!

52 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:50 pm

[47] me, too! well, i think i'll keep going...

53 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:51 pm

the oreo's won again...

54 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:53 pm

the twinks have a thousand hits. yes, one thousand. all tonight, not their season total. 1,000 hits in this very game. through 6 innings. at least they've only scored 7 runs...

hey, mac will be up this inning. he can double his total by hitting a 5-run homer. that's his total for tonight, not the entire season.

55 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:57 pm

please don't hurt yourself, mark.

56 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:58 pm

if that were me, i wouldn't even wince.

i'm a tough guy.

57 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:59 pm

[56] I believe it, I saw Whiplash.
(Note: did not see Whiplash)

58 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 8:59 pm

would be cool if we had garrett jones to play first...and pitch.

oh, wait.

59 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:00 pm

[57] the only whiplash i wanna see is the awesome old thrash band from jersey!

tex is out. awesome.

60 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:01 pm

i wonder if greg bird can hit 31 homeruns.

tonight, i mean. not in, say, his entire career. this game only.

61 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:08 pm

BELI ties it up!!!

[i had a feeling : )]

62 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:08 pm

Carrrrrrrrrlos!

[59] Japanese friend saw Whiplash, asked me what the big deal is. Said all the teachers in any traditional Japanese arts are like that. :)

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:08 pm

[60] no, but Beltran can

64 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:08 pm

watch drew hit the game winning solo shot...

65 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:08 pm

[62] ha! yeah, i have no desire to see it. i can't stand teaching like that.

66 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:09 pm

update on mitchell:

small nasal fracture. released from hospital. will be monitored for a concussion...

67 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:09 pm

damn you, nunE!

68 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:11 pm

if i were hit in the face by a batted ball that went 103 mph, i'd have stayed in and thrown a shutout. amazingly, that shutout would also be a complete game. harrumph!

69 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:12 pm

well, i didn't say that drew's homer would happen that inning. plus, there was a man on base. tough way to make it a solo job.

70 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:13 pm

hello me, meet the real me...

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:13 pm

i dozed off in a pool of drool...what happened to Tex?

72 MSM35   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:16 pm

Tex fouled it off his knee.
Coaches, do the Yanks go all out to win this or save the pen for CC tomorrow?

73 MSM35   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:17 pm

Guess that answers that.

74 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:17 pm

fouled a pitch off his right knee, in about the only place his guard wasn't protecting. it was ouchie.

i, of course, would have taken my base after the walk and stole 2nd, 3rd, and home.

75 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:18 pm

[72] go all out and bring in relief from scranton tomorrow. hopefully, someone from the Dunder Mifflin softball team.

yup, warren only 9 pitches. here's that tall kid. really really tall kid.

76 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:19 pm

my roku feed is s l o w . . .

77 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:22 pm

what? out!

replay. clearly out. this should be fast. if not, blame angel hernandez. even though he has nothing to do with the call, blame him anyway.

Mac is killin' it behind the dish!

78 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:23 pm

Nice throw from McCann, and tag from DiDi. Nunez is O U T

79 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:23 pm

i don't get it. the ump took a second to peek in. i figured it was to see if didi held onto the ball. he then saw it and called him safe.

idiot ump. go replay!

only 2 pitches for the super tall kid.

80 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:25 pm

Let's honor Kate Smith, she'd be 108 today. Rumor has it she had a tryst with Babe Ruth.

81 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:29 pm

More on Kate, one of her signature songs (no lie), "That's Why Darkies Were Born"

82 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:30 pm

[80] Was her dalliance with Ruth the impetus for the song??

83 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:32 pm

Agggh!

That was Alex's pitch to crush.

84 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:35 pm

here are a coupla things i think are super cool.

we have two sets of teammates who are part of pretty impressive clubs:

a-rod and beltan are 2 of only 8 players with 300 homers and 300 steals. they're the only active members.

tex and beltran are in the top 5 of homeruns by switch-hitters. they're the only active players in the top 10. the 10th on the list, is a tie between Bernabe and bobby bonilla.

85 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:35 pm

Bird do!

86 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:35 pm

not good, alex.

87 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:38 pm

All not good

88 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:38 pm

oh, mac.

really not good...

89 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:44 pm

This game will take over 4 hours to get through 9 innings. I shudder to think what will happen if it goes to extree innings. The Yanks really needed to score that last inning with 1st and 2nd no out, or bases loaded 1 out.

CC will have to pitch if this goes to extra innings.

90 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:48 pm

and since you all care so much...

jorge is 11th on the switch-hitter list w/ 275.

he was also only one homer away from having 8 seasons in a row with 20 homers, like Mac just did.

91 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:50 pm

Thelarmis...heres Drew's chance

92 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:51 pm

tex-rays negative.

93 thelarmis   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:54 pm

[91] he's gonna wait 'til extras to get CC a win.

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 17, 2015 9:58 pm

God, that was a nasty slider.

That just wasn't fair.

95 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:00 pm

Un-beatable Betances.

96 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:18 pm

I would very much like to win this baseball game.

97 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:20 pm

Miller with only eight pitches. CC might be spared, of course it wouldn't hoit if they won it now.

98 Ara Just Fair   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:20 pm

Ooh, tied in the 9th. I checked out at 7-5. Go Headley!

99 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:21 pm

Just don't fucking strike out, Chase...

100 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:21 pm

[107] I know! It was funny!

109 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 17, 2015 10:31 pm

[107] he won't get an error on his stats.

If he fielded clean, it could have been a home to first double play and this game could have gone on.
