Stuck at work.

But hey, my mlb.tv account works.

2 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 12:48 pm

Viva Eovaldi!

[see what i did there?]

3 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 12:58 pm

I think so!
It was as funny as a mandolin concerto!

4 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:07 pm

[3] i'm saving my humor for my "Best of Tacet" CD.

5 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:08 pm

Oh, right.
I really wish more drummers would appreciate the virtues of tacet.

6 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:08 pm

The Twins' batters certainly seem to. Good thing we aren't superstitious here.

7 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:10 pm

[4] you should see the transcription of the Triangle Concerto i had to "play" in college.

8 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:11 pm

Beltran's line since May 1st is pretty frickin' awesome. had a bad month, that's it. i still love the guy.

and, i guess, since there's barely anyone here i can say it - i don't dislike drew...

[ducks and covers]

9 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:11 pm

2-run BOMB - 2nd decker - for Bird.

Go, kid, go!!!

10 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:12 pm

Papa-ooma-mow-mow!!!!

11 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:13 pm

headley's been hot.

two-out double.

12 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:15 pm

rbj said he'd be following on mlb.tv, but it looks like just the two of us for the Banter action, huh?

13 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:17 pm

[12] and i'm about to get ready for work. i'll be in/out for the next hour or so.

14 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:23 pm

Lonely guys? Can I play?

(Don't tell my clients)

[2] Las Vegas?

The bird has landed. Tex Pipped?

15 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:23 pm

Yeah, I'll be out soon too. Actually I'll probably tune in to John and Suzyn, on and off for the rest of the game.

Hmmmm. Nate's high pitch count is likely to present Joe with a difficult decision. I wonder how long he can go out there in this weather? I mean, not exactly stressful innings, but I think he's on pace for, let's see, 128 pitches over nine innings.

16 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:24 pm

[14] I thought it was a bit of musician wordplay.

17 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:25 pm

damn, dozier.

18 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:26 pm

Oh like Viva Vivaldi?

19 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:26 pm

[14] RI was correct. it was for Vivaldi (think Four Seasons)

20 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:27 pm

Lamont can catch and write soul classics

21 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:28 pm

[18] [19] gotcha

22 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:29 pm

Damn, Nate hits triple digits.

23 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:29 pm

nice, nate!!!

3-0 to 3-3!

24 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:30 pm

Ohhhhhhhhh.

Well, now I can leave with a clear conscience.

25 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:31 pm

Okay, keep it together, dude. Let's keep the important zero up there.

26 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:31 pm

ah, crap.

get back to it, nate!

hey, how do you do the strike through of a word? apparently, i forgot.

27 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:33 pm

nice barehanded play by headley.

28 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:33 pm

Yipe, I thought that was an infield hit. Great bare-hand play by CH.

29 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:33 pm

Great bare-headed play by Handley.

30 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:34 pm

dozier is dangerous. biggest at-bat of the game right here...

31 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:34 pm

Use the 'strike' tag.

32 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:36 pm

Dang.
Eovaldi threw the high ball three at 102 mph. But, can't keep it consistently in the zone.
Can he blow Mauer away with the heat?

33 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:38 pm

Oh, crud. Goddamit.

34 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:39 pm

motherfucker.

one strike away. tied game. why not blow it past him?

get through this inning tied. maybe start the 7th...

35 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:39 pm

[31] i did. i tried strike and strikethrough. neither worked. i did it with the [strike] and [/strike] commands. i think i'm close...

36 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:42 pm

another walk to load the bases.

bad inning for nate who'd been great.

get through this tied and then it's bully time.

37 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:42 pm

Hm, but did you try ⟨/strike⟩?

38 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:42 pm

Shit on a stick, just end it...

39 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:42 pm

Goddamnit Man Up. Fucking guy is throwing 100 mph. Get out this, dude.

40 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:43 pm

I mean, using the angle brackets ⟨ ⟩.

41 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:43 pm

ooh, fuck you, angel hernandez!

he went.

42 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:43 pm

This is not fun to watch. Fuggin RBI for nuthin.

43 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:44 pm

you've gotta be kidding me.

shoulda been rung up, now we're losing on a fucking squibber.

goddamn baseball.

44 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:44 pm

Jesus.

45 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:44 pm

fuck

oh yeah!

46 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:45 pm

It shows how quickly it can go bad with a little loss of concentration and unfortunate luck.

47 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:46 pm

Frustrating that Eovaldi fell apart there. And again with only 6 innings. Doubt he'll come back for another one. Disappointing.

48 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:47 pm

shoulda thrown a 108mph fastball to mauer and the worst ump on the planet shoulda rung up plooooof.

49 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:48 pm

Okay, boys, time to get it back.

50 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:48 pm

[47] well, 6 innings and 3 runs is a quality start and he was perfect through 5. it's not like he was hit hard that inning. shoulda been tied on the missed check swing.

i doubt he'll come back for the 7th too. we've only scored 2 runs. it's disappointing that we're losing, but i'm not upset with Eo. he kicked ass.

51 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:49 pm

Plouffe's parents wanted to make sure he would be harrased in school, the name Plouffe is not enough...let's name him Trevor.

52 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:49 pm

[47] well, the two 2-out walks were certainly frustrating...

53 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:52 pm

ok, bird. do it again!!

54 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:53 pm

WAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!

55 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:53 pm

2 Birds in the bush?

56 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:53 pm

Papa oomamowmow!!!!!

57 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:54 pm

"It's bye-bye Birdie. The Birdman of New York does it again!"

Oh Sterling. I would've still preferred "And your Bird can sing."

58 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:54 pm

Pipp Pipp Hurray!

59 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:54 pm

Baby Birdie did it again!!

have yourself a day, kid.

curtain call!! i didn't see the parental units. did they show them?

60 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:55 pm

YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAH.

A star is born.

61 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:57 pm

Or Bird is the Woid!

62 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:57 pm

Ornithology.

63 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:57 pm

What's that Chinese proverb? Something like "a bird sings not to say something, but because it has a song in its heart".

64 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 1:58 pm

[61] I like it.

65 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:00 pm

nate the great still on the bump.

66 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:02 pm

Yeah, my two exclamations [10] [56] are the "Surfin' Bird" middle part words. "Words."
But it's understandable that Sterling would go with a Broadway musical.

67 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:03 pm

still throwin' triple digits.

68 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:04 pm

100 mph? Keep pouring it in, Hoss.

69 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:05 pm

Great fucking comeback inning by Eovaldi. Well done, Hoss.

70 thelarmis   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:05 pm

that makes his line better. 7 innings. 120 pitches...

let's get some geico runs!

71 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:06 pm

Nice game by Eo. Now just win it.

72 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:06 pm

Good work, Nate.
I wonder who gets the eighth.

73 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:07 pm

Okay, gotta go. Hold the fort.

74 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:08 pm

What is the Yankees record against the Twins over the last 20 years? It's got to be pretty good.

75 rbj   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:14 pm

Haven't been able to keep up with the game, stupid work has been interfering. New students come in tomorrow.

Two homers for Bird?

76 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:17 pm

Strikes motherfucker, throw fucking strikes, dammit.

77 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:18 pm

[75] yup.

78 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:19 pm

I'm starting to like this little engine that could. Line up Tanaka-Nova-Pineda-Severino in the post-season with Nate and CC in long relief and that pen, and we might make some noise yet.

79 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:19 pm

Nice.

80 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:20 pm

78) Since CC doesn't pitch well late in games, if he can wrap his preparation around pitching out of the pen, that could be a good idea.

81 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:24 pm

Fucking Mauer.

82 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:24 pm

Corey Kluber is going today for the Tribe, so we won't see him this week.+

83 MSM35   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:25 pm

Is this a good matchup?

84 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:26 pm

Shreve making it interesting...

85 MSM35   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:27 pm

Change up nice!

86 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:27 pm

83) I guess so. Excellent job Shreve!

87 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:33 pm

They let Santana pitch to Bird again?

88 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:38 pm

What a bum. Send him down.

89 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:44 pm

Go Git 'em Brooklyn.

90 MSM35   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:44 pm

Triple digits

91 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:45 pm

I like this young Rosario rookie Minny has...

92 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:45 pm

Betances is so awesome.

93 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:46 pm

Pour it in there, Dellin.

94 Alex Belth   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:46 pm

91) Agreed.

And Fuggin A.

Beautiful win.

95 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:47 pm

In Dellin we trust.

96 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:47 pm

Nice win! Beata money again.

97 Evil Empire   ~  Aug 19, 2015 2:49 pm

Dellin has a 242 ERA+ through 4 years (Obviously that's mostly 2014-15). Geez that's pretty good.

98 Dillon   ~  Aug 19, 2015 6:07 pm

Can anyone remember the turn of phrase either Jack Curry or Bob Lorenz used to describe Greg Bird's seeming lack of nerves? It was a great old-timey-ism, and I forgot to write it down.

99 RIYank   ~  Aug 19, 2015 6:53 pm

Hm, don't remember that, Dillon. What inning was it?

100 Dillon   ~  Aug 19, 2015 7:48 pm

In the post-game recap, he said something. One of those things where, maybe since I can't remember it, I'm thinking it was more brilliant than it really was. Whatever the case, it was a compliment, and a well-deserved one for an exciting young player! Won't complain about that.

Oh, I didn't watch that. And I can't recover it from mlb.com either, sorry.

O's and Jays both losing to the NL!

102 Dillon   ~  Aug 19, 2015 8:06 pm

[101] Thanks for checking, though. Let's go NLers!

103 Boatzilla   ~  Aug 20, 2015 12:50 am

[61] Yes! The Bird is the Word! That would be great to finish up "Bye, Bye Birdie." The problem is Sterling is fixated on Broadway musicals and I guess movies, too. "Bye, Bye Birdie" is good, but the other part stinks.

There is no Birdman of New York. It's the Birdman of Alcatraz, and we ain't no stinking Giants. One Michael Keaton odd-ball flick (although a good one) is not enough to make a catch phrase.

"This Bird can Fly" would be good, too. Or, "It's high. It's far. It's a Free Bird! Oh, Suzyn, this Bird can fly."

Say hello to Big Bird.
Put this bird in a gilded cage, cause it's a keeper.
We love you Birdie, oh YES WE DO! (Continuing no the original them)
We've got a Bird in the hand!

104 rbj   ~  Aug 20, 2015 7:43 am

[103] "Bye, Bye, Birdie" has been forever altered in my mind since that Mad Men episode.
