Three against the Jays, three against the Rays. Should be more than interesting.

[0] Is that the Bat phone?

Gotta crush these bird-brained jokers.

2 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 7:01 pm

There's our Batman. Judge, jury and executioner. The Jays have been sentenced.

3 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2021 7:06 pm

I hate toronto.

4 knuckles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 7:08 pm

Not an ideal situation here. Bats need to do some damage the next few innings.

5 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 7:11 pm

So Boonie is a genious for taking King out yesterday?

6 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 7:57 pm

Woo-hoo!

7 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:01 pm

Ballsy send or stupid? Worked out. Yikes.

8 BobbyB   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:08 pm

Stupid. They were Lucky he wasn’t thrown out by four steps. They already lead the league in runners thrown out at the plate by a large argon. .

9 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:10 pm

So who do we have lined up for the 6, 7, 8 and 9th.
Holmes, Wandy, Green, Chappie?

They've bounced Abreu to wherever.

10 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:10 pm

Severino.

11 knuckles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:46 pm

Where TF was that “strike”?

12 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:49 pm

Long Live Stanton!

13 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:49 pm

UNSTOPPABLE!

14 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:50 pm

Stanton is en fuego.

15 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:50 pm

This is the Giancarlo we've been waiting for. Dear god. Why does anyone pitch to him right now?

16 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:53 pm

Maybe Stanton could ask the Jays if he could borrow their homer jacket.

17 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 8:54 pm

It doesn't even look like he's swinging that hard. Amazing.

18 knuckles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:02 pm

Stanton’s on the bench asking his teammates why the opponents are even still pitching to him.

19 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:26 pm

Can't stop. Won't stop.
Gio Power!

20 knuckles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:27 pm

Gio-Blast-Ova (da fence)

21 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:29 pm

I just noticed that Boston lost in Baltimore. Yikes. Tailspin?

22 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:34 pm

Only a double? Stanton is slipping.

23 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:37 pm

Gallo to the gallows.

24 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 28, 2021 9:46 pm

Noice win. Keep it goin'.

25 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 28, 2021 11:20 pm

[17] That's what gets me about Stanton. His swings seem effortless, but clearly aren't. No one in baseball hits the ball harder, but look at his follow through. His bat never gets close to his back. It's like he's just chopping at the ball, and then it travels 450 feet. I've been watching baseball for forty years, and I don't think I've ever seen a player who can look so lost at the plate -- swinging at sliders that are in the opposite batter's box -- and then so absolutely locked in.

And here's a great stat from the post game. Judge and Stanton each hit 8 or more homers and drove in 20 or more runs in August and then in September. Only the second pair of teammates in baseball history to do this. The others? Ruth and Gehrig.

26 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 5:19 am

[25] Well stated, but I've decided to forget about the awful swings outside the zone. ;>)

27 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 5:43 pm

When he's in this groove, Stanton reminds me of Manny. Can't think of anyone else in the last couple of decades, at least. He hits it so hard and far that your mouth just drops open.

I hate to say this, but I'm still nervous. I could see these guys dropping four of the last five.
Come on, boys, prove me wrong!

28 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:18 pm

Those uniforms. I swear for a second I saw Damaso Garcia racing into second base.

29 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:19 pm

Damn.

30 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:20 pm

Oh my god.
It's Weeping for Brunhilde!
I feel like I just saw a ghost!

31 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:21 pm

hahahahaha!

[30]

Good evening, my old friend. :)

32 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:24 pm

Ooooh, did you mean: ho jo to ho?

33 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:28 pm

Yes. That's exactly what I meant.

34 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:28 pm

Stupid is as stupid does:
Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams told reporters on Wednesday that he broke his pitching hand after celebrating the team's clinch of the NL Central on Sunday.

Per MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, Williams said that he had too much to drink during the celebration and punched a wall on his way home.

35 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:32 pm

[34] Yeah I heard that.
My son sort of did that once. Only he wasn't drunk. But he was like 11. Cracked two knuckles.

36 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:36 pm

Jesus, they're smacking the ball all over the place.

Hhahahaahahaha!!! Coney with his mom's dog!

37 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:43 pm

Now would be a good time to reverse the pitching plan. This is my wild card game nightmare.

38 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:43 pm

Looks like a rough one for Cole. Three runs, four extra base hits, lots of hard hit balls, only five outs.

39 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:44 pm

[27] This is why the wild card game IS a nightmare.

40 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:50 pm

Who's pitching today, Heaney?

41 OldYanksFan   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:54 pm

Toronto has a great 1 thru 6. Check out their OPS.

42 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 6:56 pm

Bad pitching and bad hitting. Not a good combo.

43 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:02 pm

Is there anyone up in the bullpen?

44 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:11 pm

That was fucking inside.

45 knuckles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:12 pm

A good four inches

46 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:19 pm

Got them right where they want them.

47 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:20 pm

Four-nothing and we're not just being shut out, we're being perfect-gamed. Lovely.

48 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:26 pm

A hit!

49 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:26 pm

That was way inside!

50 knuckles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:26 pm

Finally.

Doesn’t help when Berrios gets a free strike every few at bats.

51 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:27 pm

I do like how fast Berrios pitches and the fact that he pitches stakes.

52 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:27 pm

Yaayyyy!!

53 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:28 pm

The Luis Sojo sixteen hop special (as Al Leiter would say).

54 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:31 pm

Signs of life!

55 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:32 pm

Yaaayyyyy!!!!

Nice hitting, Brett!

56 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:32 pm

I do like Gardner at the bottom of the lineup. He has been hitting well after the all star break.

57 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:32 pm

That's it, lay off those breaking balls!

58 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:32 pm

Well, sure, mound visit.
"How are we going to handle the Mighty Kyle in this tense and dangerous situation?"

59 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:33 pm

[58] laughing

60 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:36 pm

Oh, give me a fucking break.

61 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:36 pm

Gallo is supposed to be in there for his defense, right?

62 rob_smith_51   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:37 pm

Sorry, Gerrit, you have to get 4 outs this inning.

63 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:40 pm

Just awful.

64 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:49 pm

Ok. This is it. This is our inning.

Nice hitting.

65 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:49 pm

Keep chippin' away.

66 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:52 pm

Swinging at 3-0? WTF Rizzo.

67 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:53 pm

I mean, more would have been nice, obv, but I'll take that.

68 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:53 pm

[66] (He took 3-0. Swung through 3-1.)

69 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:55 pm

Oh well.

70 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:55 pm

Not acceptable but better than nuthin'

71 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 7:56 pm

[68] OK. Thanks for the fact check.

72 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:00 pm

Whoa, RIYank, Boatzilla, Hank and Weeping keeping the thread going? IS this 2007 and my son was just born and Kei Igawa just gave up a homer??
Where are thelarmis and cultofbasebaal now for a full reunion..

73 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:03 pm

Nice inning.

74 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:04 pm

[72] smiling

75 yankintexas   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:04 pm

Cole probably lost the CY.

76 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:05 pm

[72] My daughter was also born in 2007. Lo these FOURTEEN years ago. Cra-ZY.

77 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:08 pm

[76] Wild isn't it? I remember buying Jazz Jr a toddler's 2009 World Series shirt, now he's taller than Mrs. Jazz...Cole made it through 6, but a disappointing game. Time to get Scott Proctor in (Ok, I'll stop with the 2007 jokes now..)

78 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:10 pm

Yay!

79 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:10 pm

[77]. God. Good old Scott Proctor. :)

80 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:11 pm

[77] Dude, take your money *out* of the stock market. I'm serious. You have about a year.

81 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:13 pm

Damn it.

82 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:18 pm

Luke Voit's final AB as a Yankee?

83 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:18 pm

Stop swinging at that slider!

84 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:19 pm

Hm.
PH for Brett sort of makes sense, but... why not save Luke to PH for Kyle?

85 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:19 pm

Ohhhhh, it's a HIT!!!!!

Yaayyyyyyy!!!!!!

86 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:19 pm

Gettin' Higgy with it.

87 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:19 pm

And no sooner do I ask that question...!!!

88 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:20 pm

Well Hell's bells! I like it.

89 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:22 pm

東丘頑張れ!! Our man 'East Hill' Higgy with the clutch single!
Still a mistake by Boone sending him up there though..result over process is lucky..!

90 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:23 pm

[80] Some guy in a DeLorean told me to 'invest in the surgical mask market, just trust me..'

91 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:28 pm

Heeeeere's Johnny!

92 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:28 pm

Semien has 44 taters at 2B..?

93 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:28 pm

Nice pick.

94 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:29 pm

[92] Crazy, right?

95 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:42 pm

[90] Yeah I'd wait on that, though. Also buy Zoom when it's invented.

96 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:44 pm

Fuck.

97 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:45 pm

Bishit!

98 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:48 pm

I hate that fucker. Bollocks!

99 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:49 pm

Wow!

100 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:49 pm

Dante Bichette really named his son 'Bo' and now he's killing us..

102 knuckles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:52 pm

Gio with the leather. Go get one back.

103 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:57 pm

Good to have Gleyber back as Gleyber

104 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:57 pm

Hm.
The PH options are limited. That said, they haven't worked out well so far.

105 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 8:59 pm

And so... it's all up to Tyler Wade.
Something you never really want to admit to yourself.

106 knuckles   ~  Sep 29, 2021 9:01 pm

This Blue Jays team is annoying as fck

107 RIYank   ~  Sep 29, 2021 9:02 pm

Ah well.
Good fight.

Let's win tomorrow, take the series from the Jays, and whittle down the magic number.

108 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 29, 2021 9:04 pm

Bummer..Sox beating up the O's today too..

109 weeping for brunnhilde   ~  Sep 29, 2021 9:20 pm

Bah.

110 knuckles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 4:43 pm

Glad Kubler will be throwing to Higgy tonight. Interesting to see Gary in the lineup as well. Anyone know who the emergency catcher is?

Gallo out causes four righties in a row, but given the way Judge, Stanton, Gleyber have been swinging, it’s not a huge disadvantage.

GO YANKS. .

111 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 6:13 pm

I will rise. Holy shite!

112 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 6:21 pm

[111] Oh look, it's coming back to earth now.

113 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 6:46 pm

Corey-on-Corey violence.

114 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 6:58 pm

Lotta fly balls off our bats.

115 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 7:14 pm

Lotta grounders.

116 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 7:45 pm

I guess Robbie Ray is good. Still, this is kind of embarrassing. It's this kind of thing that was flashing through my mind when I said I could see this team blowing their playoff spot.

117 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 7:48 pm

Hey! Dropping a line drive is a hit. Sweet.

118 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 7:51 pm

Costly.

119 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 7:52 pm

Could be worse, though. The Red Sox are getting trounced by the Orioles *again*. That is definitely more embarrassing.

120 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:01 pm

Judge took Robbie Tight-Ass Ray deep? What happened with Kluber, hope Boone didn't leave him in too long..

121 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:04 pm

Hell yes! Atta boy, Rizzo!

122 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:04 pm

Corey gave up a lot of hits, but worked his way out of trouble mostly.
But we are only able to get the kind of hits that nobody (except the fans) can catch.

123 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:05 pm

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

124 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:05 pm

Holy Jesus.
Well, if you're gonna get just three hits, I guess that's the way to do it.

125 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:05 pm

Judgment Day!

126 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:06 pm

Is Springer dancing right now?

127 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:09 pm

Gleyber Day!

128 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:09 pm

Because teams that rely on the home run can't win.

129 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:10 pm

Also, I want a Homer Jacket right now. I want Gleyber to walk across the field and ask the Jays if he can wear it.

130 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:10 pm

Whoo-hoo! Getting my dog all fired up.

131 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:12 pm

[128] Not even one in-play hit!
I see your Truuuuuuue Outcomes shining through
I see your Truuuuuue Outcomes, and that's why I love you...

132 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:12 pm

[130] Ha! My dog doesn't like when I'm watching sports. He took off as I was celebrating the Judge homer.

133 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:14 pm

Do you think Stanton feels left out? I feel a little bad for him. I guess he did score at least.

134 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:18 pm

Yup. Yogi was sound asleep on the couch until Judge's homer. Me jumping off the couch is not beneficial to him. Lol.

135 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:19 pm

[133] I'm definitely feeling bad for him. Really hoping he joins the homer party later tonight.

136 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:19 pm

Microcosm of a season.
See Rizzo HR, start going crazy.
Wife tells me to take the garbage out.
Start walking around with my iPhone trying to keep my eye on the game.
Get the garbage ready while Judge HRs.
Garbage is gone....go looking for it.
Wife has already taken it out.
Barely catch Gleyber's HR.

But I'm happy.

137 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:19 pm

Look at Stanton! No outfield for three years, and now he runs that one down like it's nothing.

138 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:20 pm

[131] Good one. Cindy!

139 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:20 pm

Stanton! Good thing Gallo wasn't out there.

140 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:20 pm

[136] Please write more poetry like this.

141 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:22 pm

So is Voit hurt or is he totally out of The Circle of Trust?
We got 2 catchers in the game.

142 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:23 pm

[141] Voit was put on the IL today. I know people are upset that he hasn't been playing, but I'm not a big fan of Voit. I don't miss him.

143 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:23 pm

[140] Ha. I should be writing slogans right now. 12 noon deadline.

144 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:28 pm

This ump fucking blows!

145 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:28 pm

Kay is talking about Wade like he's a zero offensively.
He's not that bad. He's helped this team all year long. A few big mistakes on the base paths, but that's par for the course for this team.

146 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:30 pm

Well, yeah, except base running is pretty much all Wade contributes, offensively.

147 knuckles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:32 pm

Pearson has a strong “brings cocaine to a low key high school party when the parents are out (but not out of town)” vibe about him.

148 yankintexas   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:44 pm

Severino is turning in this team's Devin Wiliams, minus the stupidity.

149 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:48 pm

Don't let Luis pitch the 8th! Bring in Green. Fucking Bollocks!

150 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:53 pm

lol Coney.
But I just realized, Michael is covering a game *in Toronto*.
I mean, the game is, not Michael.

151 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:54 pm

Oh Chad....

152 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:55 pm

[149] Hmmmmmmm.

153 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:55 pm

Hmm....hanging curveball for Bo. Leadoff double.

154 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 8:56 pm

Never feel good with Green on the mound anymore...

155 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:02 pm

Looks a lot better now though.

156 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:04 pm

"Alejandro Kirk" is a pretty cool name.

157 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:09 pm

They need another run....for my heart.

158 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:12 pm

[157] The big question is, do I make the 5-min trek out to the jerk chicken truck for lunch? Or order in? First World problems galore..

159 RIYank   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:13 pm

It just warms my heart that the Orioles took two of three from the Red Sox, when the Sox really needed (and expected) to walk over those birds.

160 Hank Waddles   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:17 pm

Homer. Jacket. Right. Now.

161 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:20 pm

The Blue Bombers!

(Extra points if you get that one)

162 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:21 pm

[158] In this weather? Order in.
As my mom would say, "You'll melt." (Because I'm sugar)

167 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:35 pm

This game has taken far too GD long any event. Ugh.

168 Boatzilla   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:38 pm

Way to go Bombers.

169 Ara Just Fair   ~  Sep 30, 2021 9:43 pm

[161] FYI. Answer: Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL. Weak sauce? I tried.

171 Hank Waddles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 1:41 pm

Quick question for the masses. How have you felt about the Yankees' rivals over the years? (I ask because I despise the Blue Jays, even though I know my dislike is irrational.)

Starting with 1995, we've got the Mariners. Super villains, but I couldn't hate them, not really. Randy Johnson was easy to hate, but there was no hatred beyond that. Edgar Martínez gave me nightmares, but he was absolute vanilla, like a robot. See ball, hit ball, drive in run. Repeat. I loved Griffey, so everything he did against the Yankees -- and he did a lot -- was like a dagger, but it couldn't stop me from rooting for him when they weren't playing the Yankees.

Cleveland then became the main rival, but I don't really remember having any strong feelings about them. They were a great team, but that was about it.

The Red Sox, obviously. That era of the rivalry, 1998-2004, was the best it's been in my life time, especially when they unbalanced the schedule and they started playing nineteen times a year. Those games felt like playoff games, and I treated them as such, planning my schedule around them. Back then when the games were on MSG, the live game would be blacked out here, but the replay that followed immediately would air, so I'd avoid the score and watch it plausibly live. When YES took over, I started paying to watch live, and my quality of life suffered. Watching Manny and Papí back to back was awful. (Do opposing fans feel that way with Judge and Stanton?) But here's the thing -- I couldn't not like Manny. He was Manny. And Papí was okay. But there were so many villains back then -- Varitek, obviously. Youkilis. Pedro. Pedroia, later on. That was an easy team to hate, and not just because I was supposed to.

The Astros. The Astros make me question myself. I'm a grown man with grown children. I'm a molder of young minds. But I freely admit that I absolutely fucking hate the Astros. Carlos Correa. José Altuve. George Springer. Hate. Them. All. The cheating scandal isn't the reason, it's just a justification for the hatred that was already simmering. If the Yankees sign Correa in the off-season... I mean... He'd have to win two triple crowns to get on my good side.

Which brings us to the Jays. All they're doing is having fun playing the game, and I'm completely aware that if I were a Jays' fan I'd love them all to death. I can't be mad at Vlad, Jr., for anything he does; he's so good he should wake up pumping his fist and screaming at his reflection in the mirror. But there's Springer again -- his salsa shimmy made me ill the other night -- and Bichette. Ugh.

So am I a bad person?

172 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 5:55 pm

Hate the Sox. Always
I was really anti Baltimore in those Jeffrey Maier years. That one brawl was pretty emblematic of my opinion of them.
Hated the Angels and Scioscia. So annoying.
Disliked the Juan Gone and Rusty Gree-ah Rangers
The Astros deserve a trip through every one of Dante’s circles
These Blue Jays are likable individually but that stupid home run jacket gets on my frickin nerves.

Kinda saw the Mariners and Indians as opponents but not nemeses. I was pleased however the year Seattle won 100+ games and the Yanks dispatched them summarily.

173 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:16 pm

Not an ideal start.

174 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:24 pm

Better.

175 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:25 pm

Stanton going the other way for a RBI. Noice.

176 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:33 pm

Gallo is not a terrible fielder.

177 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:39 pm

Oh fer gosh sake.

178 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:51 pm

Red Sox were easy to dislike, especially Schilling. Pedro was pretty amazing, but it was nice to rough him up occasionally. I thought Oritz was OK, but I never really liked full-time DH. I remember not liking the Braves so it was satisfying to beat them in 96 and 99. I disliked the Astros before the scandal and even more after. The one player that I really disliked was Roger Clemens. He was always my least liked Yankee and I was quite happy when he moved on to Houston.

179 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:52 pm

[170] CFL! I was sure it was a drug reference..

180 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 6:54 pm

[171] Sox always the worst, but I find I can’t stand the Dodgers these days. And increasingly the Rays and all their admirers who glorify them for finding cheap players. Never thought of the Mets as a rival though I know some do.

181 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:20 pm

Nats loaded the bases with nobody out in the fourth.
Did not score.

182 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:26 pm

[179] Quadrophenia?

183 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:28 pm

I usually don't like celebrity (or any) booth visits, but Mo was good. Great to hear him talk about pitching.

184 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:33 pm

Holmes is hard.

185 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:52 pm

[184] See what you did there..

186 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:56 pm

Maybe the fielders will get tired moving from outfield to infield.

187 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:58 pm

A bloop and…

188 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 7:59 pm

The Jays and Sox are both up 3-0. It would be really nice to pull this one out somehow. Need base runners!

189 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:05 pm

:(

190 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:06 pm

[156] I resisted the urge to talk about the Rays bringing in Head.

191 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:14 pm

[190] One day I can’t wait to tell Jazz Jr that Dick Pole and Rusty Kuntz were actual baseball men..

192 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:24 pm

[191] Har!

193 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:24 pm

Jo-Lo gets it done!

194 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:29 pm

Shin’ time folks.
Get after it.

195 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:30 pm

Auto correct dammit

Dyin’ time.

196 RIYank   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:53 pm

The odds of hitting a two-run homer without someone getting on base first are very, very long.

197 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 1, 2021 8:55 pm

Best 2 hitters in the ninth. Can't ask for more than that

198 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:12 pm

Perplexing as always to see Boone’s bullpen usage..

199 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:18 pm

Too many walks

200 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:22 pm

Great play by Gallo. Love it!

202 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:26 pm

I would PH for Gardner now, honestly.

203 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:29 pm

Getting tense here..Wade couldn’t get to third there though?

204 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:30 pm

That was absolutely appalling AB by Gary

205 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:36 pm

Should have just let Higgy bat.

206 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:36 pm

[204] Yeah, normally he takes 2 strikes.

Oh well, they gave it the ol' college try. Can't really complain.

207 knuckles   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:37 pm

Gary is so not to be trusted now.
Better to start him on occasion (when SP likes him) than expect anything in the moment.

208 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 1, 2021 9:37 pm

Bottom line: if they can't beat the Rays they ain't goin' nowhere.

209 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 2, 2021 12:23 pm

Ugh

210 BobbyB   ~  Oct 2, 2021 2:05 pm

I’m starting to get that 2004 vibe…

211 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 2, 2021 2:40 pm

The good news is that if they didn't win 5 of the previous 6, their season is probably over. Maybe we will get a 4 way tie for the wild card. Man, I hope not.

212 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 2, 2021 3:59 pm

Aren't the Yankees guaranteed a 163rd game? I was thinking Toronto or Seattle could pass them, but it looks like only Boston can get to 92 wins.

213 yankintexas   ~  Oct 2, 2021 7:23 pm

Not making the playoffs is probably what this team really needs in order to make the changes that are needed.

214 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 2, 2021 8:44 pm

[213] What do you consider not making playoffs? Losing the play-in game(s)? Losing the wild card game? It seems like the play-in game is like a wild card game, just more to win to play a series.

215 yankintexas   ~  Oct 3, 2021 12:17 am

Losing thr play in game would be considered not making thr playoffs. Although I personally would also consider losing thr wild card game as not having achieved it either.

I just think management makes too many excuses like injuries or placing blame on the players, instead of the flawed strategies and player personnel decisions.
Making the playoffs will likely lead to no significant changes next year, IMO. As constructed and with this manager they will likely be in the same position next year.

216 Boatzilla   ~  Oct 3, 2021 7:59 am

Well, I guess I gotta get up at 4 AM (or stay up) to hear Ken Singleton's last game tomorrow.

217 rob_smith_51   ~  Oct 3, 2021 9:36 am

[216] Singleton has always been my favorite baseball announcer. I hope it will be on here in IL.
