It's funny - the first things that come to mind for Willis for most folks are the GODFATHER films and his work with Woody Allen, but he shot 6 movies for Alan Pakula, too. His work on THE PARALLAX VIEW and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN was stunning.
I need to see THE PARALLAX VIEW again. I don't remember it. MANHATTAN is his most elegant work for the Wood Man but I like the way ANNIE HALL and BROADWAY DANNY ROSE look, too. Nice work on PENNIES FROM HEAVEN as well.
Manhattan is one of my favorite movies of all time in regards to cinematography and maybe #1.
Having grown up in NY and visited a lot of those sites in the 70's it brings it all back for me. The fireworks in black and white and Gershwin in the beginning is one of my favorite 4 minutes in film.
He was a gifted artist, and worked on some of the most important films of the 70's and early 80's.
Godfather II, especially the Tahoe scenes, is just so damn DARK. I remember the first time I saw on a scratchy VHS copy and having to re-watch scenes to decipher what the hell was going on. For the longest time I wasn't sure if Senator Geahry had facial hair or not. But I love it.
