Red Sox signed Marco Scutaro. I'm sure they'll be shocked when he goes back to being Marco Scutaro.

OffTheOldWall:
I was just reading a post by SG of RLYW summing up ARod's 2009. This gave me some wonderful tingles, so I thought I'd re-post it here, for your enjoyment.

"Of course, what happened in the regular season was nice, but the story of Rodriguez's 2009 will be his tremendous effort in the postseason. Rodriguez hit .365./.500/.808/1.308 in 68 postseason PAs, with 6 HRs and 18 RBI.

His game-tying bottom of the ninth two-run HR off Joe Nathan in ALDS Game 2 may have been the biggest hit of his Yankee career at the time. Then, he hit ANOTHER bottom of the ninth game-tying HR off Brian Fuentes in ALCS Game 2. His two-run instant replay HR with the Yankees trailing 3-0 helped the Yanks to rally and take Game Three."

Nice. Real nice.

[1] For some reason, it seems as if the Red Sox take complete leave of their senses when it comes to SS. Scutaro is a 34 year old with a career OPS+ of 92. He also rates as a below average defender. Obviously, the terms of the deal are a factor, but simply giving up a 1st round pick seems a bit much (just because they get one from Atlanta [assuming the Braves don't sign a higher rated free agent] doesn't mean they have to give one away).

[2] As much as Arod's post season's failures were over blown, you really can't exaggerate how great his 2009 post season was. Aggregate stats aside, Arod pretty rescued 3 games (game 2 of ALDS, game 2 of ALCS and game 4 of the World Series) from the brink of defeat with huge hits (and that doesn’t include his late tie breaking HR off Pavano in game 3 of the ALDS).

[3] Looking at their roster moves over the years, it seems they're that way with middle infielders in general. I am a bit surprised that they didn't just shift Pedroia over to short and sign Orlando Hudson or Polanco.
