Sunday Soul

Grand Master…Clifford Brown.

Saturday Morning Soul

Kick the Bobo:

Viva Cepeda!

First, dig this tune sung by Richie Allen.

Next, how about this groove from Banter-favorite, Cal Tjader:

What's Poppin'?

Mmmmmornin’!

Beat of the Day (Part I)

In the words of the immortal Oscar Madison, “Now it’s garbage.”

Hey, Leroy, You’re Mama’s callin’:

Beat of the Day

Beat of the Day

Shake it, folks.

Willie Bobo was from Harlem. He made a name for himself playing for Tito Puente and then, in San Francisco, with Cal Tjader and Mongo Santamaria.

Just a reminder for anyone who is around, I’ll be at the Varsity Letters reading series tonight in Brooklyn.

Jan Larsen Art
63 Pearl St (between Water St. and Front St.), *BROOKLYN*
Right near F train stop at York St.

I’ll be the first speaker, going on around 7:40-7:45. I know there’s a game tonight but if you can make it, love to see ya. If not, don’t stress it, and be sure to put all sorts of mojos on Carl Pavano for me.

This here was one of the most provocative album covers I remember as a kid. My parents didn’t own this record but I saw it almost everywhere else. Didn’t know–or care–who Herb Albert was, just loved that green, the whipped cream and that girl. It made sex look tasty but fun.
