Black Sunday?

M’ehhh, could be. It’s definitely grey.

Johan, AJ, lots of off-the-field barkin and belly-achin.

Doesn’t look like a good match-up for the Yanks today, and yet, I’ve got hope…cause that’s the thing that spring eternal.

When a team isn't playing up to it's potential, people need to be held accountable. George may have pushed that principle beyond its logical limits, but since he has passed the baton, there seems to be no accountability at all.

[1] I agree but the last time this was an issue they suddenly played .720 baseball. Let's see if they have another Red-Sox-inspired swoon. Well they already have, actually, but luckily Castillo dropped that ball. So it comes down to today. They lose today and they'll have a virtual six game losing streak, excepting that ridiculous misplay.

[0] LOL Alex! Apparently the only things that "spring eternal" anymore are these friggen girls' "comments," who fight with each other through the press because as such pussies, that's all they have and all they are willing to do!

I'm tellin' ya, you will not find a "set" within the entire building among both organizations today, unless of course you were some baseball groupie who just so happened to be "hawt." Then and only then, might you "find a pair"...

: )

[2] What concerns me, apart from how they can't beat the Sox despite having more talent in every area but the bullpen, is that after getting an absolute gift on Friday, they appeared to have a mail it in effort against a journeyman pitcher on Saturday.

Also, every starter other than CC has been struggling. I don't understand how Eiland doesn't bear some responsiblity for that.

Either the talent isn't as good as I think it is (which I doubt), or the manager and coaches aren't getting enough out of the talent.

I wonder how we hold these guys accountable? Gratuitious firings? Should we shitcan a coach everytime we look bad X games in a row? Should we shitcan our manager everytime we look bad Y games in a row? Call out our players in public? Make them wear a pink dunce game in the dugout?

I don't know if there is a lot you can do. I think a verbal reaming would have some effect on the youngsters. Maybe telling Cano he is on the block if improvements X,Y and Z don't happen. Maybe tell Melky the same thing. I wonder if you can 'force' them to work out with ARod. I don't know how much you can control these guys off the field.

I think the players have to want it.
I honestly don't know what can be done that's effective.

I don't give LoHud comments much thought, but I wonder if there is something to a few posters who believe that Jorge's handling of pitchers is what's killing our pitching staff. We know his throws are not great, he doesn't block the plate, he's not good at preventing passed balls or wild pitches and he absolutely does not frame pitches at all.

We have all said that he is one of our most key players, if not THE most important. It's very hard to 'qualify' how a catcher 'handles' pitchers. This has been brought up before.

Could JoPo actually be hurting us???

I'd have to wonder why it happens to be an issue now. Posada has been the primary starter for about 10 years now, so at this stage it's kinda late in the day to gripe about his pitch selection

[8] I think it may be that his communication skills are deteriorating. It's possible he's just getting more and more difficult to deal with as he gets older, a stubborn old goat. Ultimately the pitcher is who has to deliver, and Posada has to effectively sell them on his approach instead of butting heads all the time (if that's what's happening).

while it may be that there is "blame" to go around for the recent pitching performances - perhaps po, the coaching staff, cashman (who i think really handled the wang situation poorly), if we want to focus on accountability (which is a buzzword i am not entirely fond of) - how about the pitchers.
this is who burnett has been his entrie freaking career - which then goes back to cashman for signing him - but it doesn't change the fact that he is here now and mostly giving horseshit outings

[9] But what does 'accountability' have to do with that? Will Burnett hit better if somebody smacks him on the back of his hand with a ruler, or gives him a stern talking to?

He's going to have some very good outings. And, he'll have some more jaw-droppingly bad ones, too. As you say, Ms. Oct, that's who he is.
