Gotta get that run differential turned around.

2 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 6:30 pm

Had a ribeye n baked potato. Cooked a 4 oz. Kansas City steak for the hounds after a morning at the park. Looks like the Jack-in-the-Pulpits are finally coming up.

I had everything for some Mexican food -- not the platanos, but my normal stuff. And then, it was 4:00, and then it was 5:00, and I just didn't feel like it.
So I'm gonna eat guacamole and chips and drink a margarita or two.

4 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 6:44 pm

And I don't seen how Donald Sterling continues as the Clippers' owner. Good thing Jeter is in NY and not LA.

5 Sliced Bread   ~  Apr 27, 2014 6:47 pm

Jervis was scratched with a sore shoulder. Roberts is in his place.
Let's go Yanks!

6 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 6:51 pm

Crap Sox lost big.

7 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:02 pm

[6] Watched the whole thing. Including the post-game interview with Lester. Loved it. (And I've already admitted that I don't dislike Lester at all, but still.) Xander Bogaerts botched a dp ball, too, which triggers RSN phobias.

But I don't get the [4] Jeter reference. I only vaguely know what the Sterling thing is -- he made some bizarro racial comments about photos of his wife, right?

8 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:04 pm

[7] He didn't want his girlfriend to put pictures of her with black men up on instagram, including Magic Johnson (whom he doesn't want at Clipper games) and Matt Kemp, who is also biracial.

Anyone feel like going to Clipper games when the visit the Knicks or Nets next year?

9 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:08 pm

[8] Yeah, huh.
I mean, it doesn't ever surprise me that there are still race issues in America, at all. But how can somebody be that batshit crazy and be in the position Sterling is in? Mind-boggling.

10 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:10 pm

Good start.

11 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:10 pm

Pasta ...

12 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:10 pm

Less good.

13 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:13 pm

siddown, albert!

14 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:13 pm

Sit down Prince Albert, you've been canned.

15 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:14 pm

[13] Yo, moderately long time no see.

16 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:14 pm

[9] If you don't like black people, don't buy and NBA franchise.

17 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:15 pm

[10] Marge Schott wasn't that long ago and Sterling has owned the Clippers for forever. He's really a relic of a previous generation ...

18 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:15 pm

[16] and don't marry them, either.

19 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:17 pm

How about some baseball chatter, folks

20 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:18 pm

[18] See, that's the thing. A guy who doesn't like black people, and he marries one and owns an NBA franchise. Well, I guess I can sort of see it -- maybe he's into the 'ownership' aspect. But it has to be brain damage or something, right?

Uh oh, Tanaka walk. Unusual, and bad.

21 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:18 pm

damn.

22 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:19 pm

[19] Hey, cool, baseball meta-chatter!

23 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:20 pm

Oooooh.

Yeah,baby, tanakalakadingdong!

24 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:20 pm

26 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:22 pm

[22] yeah! That's what I like about this place!

27 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:22 pm

[1] word.

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:22 pm

3k's, a walk, and a hit with just 20 pitches in the 1st. That would have taken Phil Hughes at least 45.

29 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:22 pm

[26] oh, but there's sooo much more!

30 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:23 pm

[28] true! but, he kicked ass this weekend and in his last start...

31 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:24 pm

with apologies to coleman42, i need to chime in on the earlier dinner comments, since everyone knows how much of a foodie i am...

just finished an excellent meal - spicy thai basil with chicken. washed down with a barq's root beer. the asian noodle house is sooo good, we're having them cater part of our wedding this summer!

32 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:26 pm

Oof. That is one nasty pitch.

33 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:27 pm

crap. i remember when this guy first came up and got his feet wet in the bullpen. we beat him up pretty bad...

34 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:27 pm

[28] Like starter Phil Hughes could get 3 strikeouts in an inning ...

=)

36 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:29 pm

Man those plantains look good. When they have that char to counteract the sweet combined with the silky beans and rice , yum.

This is a big time game tonight...

Donald Sterling has been a laughingstock since the '80s. You have to see Snoop Dogg's message to Sterling on YouTube. Sorry don't have the link handy, google it.

37 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:30 pm

[15] Hi, RI!

yeah, it's been a minute, but i've been keeping up on every banter post and reading all the game thread comments.

work goes late and i was in NY all weekend for my middle nephew's bar mitzvah. i got to watch some Yankee baseball at parents' house. yeah, it was tough finding the station yesterday. my pop found fox sports 1 on fios channel 83.

this week is going to be really hectic, between teaching and starting to move into our new home!

38 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:31 pm

[34] HA!

[35] Yup!!! : )

39 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:32 pm

42 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:33 pm

[39] yes, please.

43 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:34 pm

i can't stand ianetta.

44 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:35 pm

[37] Geez, you're buying a house?
I guess I was wrong about the difference between drummers and savings bonds.

45 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:35 pm

fuck. TWO walks. hmmm...

46 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:36 pm

[44] only ONE matures and makes money?!

47 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:36 pm

[31] we had spaghetti and Greg Norman Shiraz, which I'm still enjoying.

48 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:37 pm

not solarte, espn. roberts. solarte is out with a sore shoulder.

worldwide leader in sports!

49 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:39 pm

[44] not buying - renting...for now. we'll look to buy in a few years. it all depends on schooling. we're pretty much set for the next 3 years.

50 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:40 pm

[46] Apparently not!

51 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:41 pm

[49] Ohhhhh.
I feel better. My world was trembling a little.

52 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:42 pm

Dang, is this sumbitch unhittable??
Teixeira will work some pitch-repel magic and draw a walk.

53 Ara Just Fair   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:43 pm

This dude is just firing 96 and 97 mph lasers over and over again. Man!

54 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:43 pm

Argh!

55 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:44 pm

Not having a good feeling about this game...

56 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:48 pm

If Trout wants to make a productive out, I'll take it.

57 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:49 pm

[35] cult - we're looking to do the entire thing as cheap as we can. we're having what's called a "bohemian" style wedding in our backyard.

i'm wearing jeans!!! (at my fiancee's request. yes, she's a keeper!) how badass is that?!

as far as the music goes, yeah, i'm taking care of that : )

during the ceremony, i'm having a former's students' dad and a very close friend play Bach pieces (separately), on piano and acoustic guitar, respectively.

the two main dance pieces will be performed by a duo of dear friends. i have one guy playing the piano, with the other singing.

my fusion group will play an original jazz composition of ours:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKIinyEXTfY

then, i'm gonna have a bunch of different combos. my pop will sing and play a few songs, including "Here Comes The Sun." my brother and sister-in-law will probably do a duet together and i might assemble a couple of other trio tunes that i'll play, or something. i'm not allowed to turn it into a gig, so most of it will be drummer-less, unless some friends/students sit in...

at some point, we will just have music being played and the house will be wired up so the sound system is inside/outside and all throughout.

most importantly, however - beer.

58 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:50 pm

Ooooh!
Okay, that's one (and 5).

59 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:52 pm

nice! wow, i must be way behind yinz.

70 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:56 pm

[62] i'd love that! i'm not a big poo-holes fan...

[61] thanks, seamus! later on in the summer, we'll have a party at my parents' house in NY, so friends and (extended) family can make it out. i'm hoping a few penn staters make it to that! we're keeping it really small here in the ATL.

71 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:57 pm

Dear cult & RI,

I do NOT look like Mike Carp. harrumph.

the only similarity is our income. (i wish!)

[there is a photo or two of him where i can see a very slight resemblance...]

72 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:58 pm

[68] 50 through 3 is okay. He'll go seven.

And a hit for the good guys!

beat the shift outta them!

74 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 27, 2014 7:59 pm

I'm a bit doped up on cold/flu meds..maybe I should just troll tonight.

75 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:00 pm

[65] He does, and not bad shiraz at that. I always figured you would get a lot of Aussie wine in Japan, no?

78 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:00 pm

[65] good stuff. Uses his name, originally Australian wine, now uses California grapes, I think. But I digress, back to the game.

79 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:00 pm

it's no secret we all hate the halos, and their anaheim name is beyond brutal. but, how 'bout this qualm with their moniker...

The Los Angeles Angels = The The Angels Angels

jeesh. : /

80 seamus   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:01 pm

Although, now that I look at the picture, Carp has a kind of weak chin. Thelarmis doesn't have that.

123 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:24 pm

yeah, he's still throwing a pretty nice game and should certainly give us 6 "quality" innings. perhaps, even 7...

Ciao, Seamus.

128 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:29 pm

129 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:29 pm

Dare I say it, but this game reminds me of the typical 'Yankees are terrible when facing pitcher they haven't seen before' game.

151 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:44 pm

[139] bring Tim Salmon outta retirement.

he needs 1 homer for 300 anyway...

152 rbj   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:45 pm

Ah Tony siragoesso

153 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:45 pm

[150] i just called him poo-holes, didn't say he stunk! : )

154 coleman42   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:46 pm

[132] remember most of the Yanks this year are new to the Club, but they're typical veterans who have to have 2+ ABs to get a feel for the guy. Maybe we can wait till Angels bullpen kicks in.

155 cult of basebaal   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:46 pm

Runs, please!

156 kenboyer made me cry   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:47 pm

157 RIYank   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:47 pm

i'll take it.

let's have a big inning, fellas!

159 Alex Belth   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:49 pm

I love Tanaka. He really pitches even on a day when he doesn't have much control. No matter what happens in the 6th he's at least kept the team in the game so far. He's fun to watch.

160 thelarmis   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:49 pm

[156] i live in Atlanta; i can never forget sid bream!

[i don't eat fish, though...]

161 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Apr 27, 2014 8:50 pm

Fucking ump. At least he got that last call right.

Was really worried Soriano's 8th inning AB was going to come back to kill us.
