Never mind the self-pity:

10 pm start is too late for me. Have fun kids.

Robbie's doing ok for himself this year. Not a ton of power but still hitting...

3 YankInEugene   ~  Jun 10, 2014 4:35 pm

Headed for Safeco tomorrow for the Jeter Farewell tour. Caught a lucky break with the rainout last night. Now I get to see Tanaka pitch.

Listened to two Derek Fisher intvs on the way home. He's got good vibes about him, and I'm rooting for him bigtime. Triangulation, man.

I'm finding it hard to keep watching with no CC and with Jeter being a groundball machine.

Let's hope Robbie hits three solo homers and the Yanks win 4-3!

[5] Let's also hope that Cashman and Hal make surprise relief appearances and give up two of them >;)

I looked up season to date stats for Solarte vs. Cano. Take a look and judge for yourself.

Solarte vs. Cano

BA .299 v. .330
OBP .368 v. .381
HR 6 v. 2
RBI 28 v. 33
OPS .826 v. .802
WAR 1.4 v. 1.1

Yes I know WAR on partial season is dicey. Solarte ahead on HR, OPS and WAR. Cano BA has improved significantly since I first did this comparison as one of my first posts, late April or so.

8 rbj   ~  Jun 10, 2014 7:44 pm

[7] And then factor in years & $ on their contracts.

9 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 8:42 pm

[8] Right. Cano is $24 million in 2014 per Baseball Reference. I assume Solarte is $450-500k. I also conveniently left out Cano total career WAR of 44, which targets him for HOF

10 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:03 pm

[8],[9] I'm not too worried. I understand the plan is to trade back for him in 6-8 years when he's become a full time outfielder so we can plug him into a lefty-righty platoon. We'll show the HOF we mean business!

So earlier tonight, Ashes to Ashes popped into my head out of the blue. (Just realized that's a quote from the lyrics.) Totally stuck in my head until I read this . . . and now it's "Watch that Man." God Damn Bowie!!! Is there anything you can't do?

P.S. In the rock and roll world, what is Bowie's WAR? More or less than, say, The Kinks? Or Cano?

12 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:12 pm

Hopefully the day off was refreshing.

13 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:14 pm

Cheers for Jeter, getting to be a habit

14 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:22 pm

He called McCann safe before he reached first

15 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:23 pm

Scoring in the first inning is usually a good thing. Singleton said Iwakuma was their ace last year. His fastball looks hitable at 88mph.

16 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:33 pm

[11] Bowie's career WAR is way, way,WAY higher than The Kinks. Have frankly never seen the appeal of the Kinks..maybe you have to be British..

Spurs scored 71 points in the first half against Miami. 71!

17 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:39 pm

Evening all!

I'll be watch/listening to the game while researching the best way to deploy my ladybug solution to my aphid problems!

18 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:40 pm

Spurs scored 71 points in the first half against Miami. 71!

Go Spurs!

19 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:41 pm

[16] Could use a few of those points over here; just hope they don't give em back when they're done.

Just reminiscing about my "Safeco Experience." One of my sons lived in Seattle working for Boeing. We visited him and his family in April 2001 and attended a game at Safeco, Mariners vs. Rangers. It happened to be A-Rod's first game back at Safeco after leaving the M's for the mega-contract. That day the Seattle Times actually ran a page full of fake bills for people to tear out and bring to the stadium. They did in droves, dropping them all over the field as he came to the plate, in addition to loud booing. It continued all night. He failed to get a hit and I think he made an error too. A memorable evening!

21 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:44 pm

Well, that was bullshit.

22 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:45 pm

I feel like this wasn't exactly the pair you want to do a hit and run with

23 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:45 pm

Gritner couldn't have hit that if he was swinging a shovel.

Bah.

24 Mattpat11   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:46 pm

[20] Pretty ballpark? I've always wanted to go.

Hitting Chase Field this year and probably the Trop next.

25 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:48 pm

[18] yes but only 4 pts. In first 4 minutes of third quarter

26 Normando   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:56 pm

[16] But for every Fascination there's a Powerman......

27 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 9:56 pm

[24] lovely place that Safeco. I've thought about going to Camden Yards to save money but haven't been to any other AL parks. Have been to Ebbets Field, Dodger field in LA, Shea (1969 WS vs Orioles).

Great catch Ichiro!

28 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:03 pm

Happy Birthday Kenny!

29 Chyll Will   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:03 pm

[25] Within 10 right now...

30 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:09 pm

Ryne Sandberg (one answer to tonight's quiz)

31 MSM35   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:17 pm

(27) No Polo Grounds?

32 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:20 pm

[31] Nope. My father was a Dodger fan. Giants were always "the third team" in those days, except for '51.

33 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:22 pm

All is wasted unless Nuno gets this 3rd out ...

34 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:22 pm

Whew!

35 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:22 pm

Eek!

Phew.

36 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:24 pm

14 now.

C'mon Spurs!

37 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:29 pm

[36] Go Go Heat!! Ray Allen Three-Attack coming!

38 coleman42   ~  Jun 10, 2014 10:42 pm

5 solid innings for Nuno. Keep it up!

Sweet dreams, guys

41 thelarmis   ~  Jun 10, 2014 11:21 pm

45 cult of basebaal   ~  Jun 10, 2014 11:24 pm

Jeter seems to have some early onset oldheimers ... ton of mental mistakes recently.

Glad that one bounced high (even though I think he just clipped 1st).

46 thelarmis   ~  Jun 10, 2014 11:25 pm

[16] [11] i'll take the kinks over bowie any day of the week. and i prefer not to take the kinks...

47 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  Jun 10, 2014 11:26 pm

[45] How could anyone concentrate with all those lovely gifts at each stadium?

48 thelarmis   ~  Jun 10, 2014 11:28 pm

[52] come on - i've got plenty o' beer! in fact, make your trip for the last weekend of the month, so you can come to the wedding!!! : )

[55] nah, i don't really care for either one. i like a coupla hits from each, but that's about it. obviously, bowie's waaay more talented; i just don't dig him...

[60] If I wasn't about to take a week at the end of July to go up to Oregon with my parents and then saving up for a 2 week vacation in January to travel SE Asia, flying out for your wedding would be awesome!
