Sometimes I Wonder What I’m a Gonna Do

whales

‘Cause there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues.

The Yanks’ offense looked dead in the water again last night. Never mind a slump, they were up against a formidable pitcher in Carlos Carrasco. But solo home runs by Stephen Drew and Carlos Beltran tied the score and the top of the 10th inning, pinch-hitter Chase Headley dropped an RBI single in front of the right fielder, the Yanks scored a couple, and it was Miller Time. Ah, Miller time.

Hell of a spot to blow your first game of the season. Miller wasn’t awful, the Indians hit a couple of good pitches. Still, by the end of the inning, the score was tied. And that’s how it remained through good relief pitching–or weak hitting–on both sides. On and on.

The Indians finally scored the winning run in the bottom of the 16th and those of us who stayed up for it are now feeling less than spry.

And so it goes during a slump–hard hit balls go for outs, the other guys’ bloopers fall in for hits.

Course the Jays won, too.

Shake it off. Today is…well, it’s already today. Onward!

Glad I went to bed after the 13th.

I have been seeing these articles comparing how the Yanks standing pat at the trade deadline and the Jays recent hot streak, and the Yanks made a mistake.

Sure, the Jays are riding high and Tulo looks re-energized, but that would be a pretty awful contract for the Yanks to have taken on. They need more youth and less cumbersome contracts.

Also the Yanks held on to Severino and Judge. It would be great to see some homegrown Yanks up in the bigs in the next few years. Not sure where Judge will play as Gardner, Ellsbury and Beltran are blocking him, but who knows?

The Yanks are slumping, and need to pull this out, but trading deadline deals can't be judged in the weeks after. Even if the Yanks dealt the future for the present (as they were wont to do so often under the Big Stein), 1 year's glory is not going to make up for a solid roster for many years to come.

Let's knock those beating on a stupid drum Indians d..ks in the dirt!

Whose with me?

Well look on the bright side, Yanks are still in first. Yanks are due for a market correction and so is Toronto. I wonder if the Yanks might go get Shields now.

Yes, I agree it's just a slump. Though part of me has been thinking that some of our players have been overachieving so far this season. So it's just as possible that, especially given the age of a couple of those key players, that the correction is of earlier. Too soon to tell. Anyhow, I blame Stephen Drew.

[4] I blame Stephen Drew for everything! Was Refsnyder that bad defensively that they had to keep running Drew out there?

5) Where's Dimelo when you need him. He would agree I'm sure!

[5] [6] Could not agree more, this is all Drew's fault. Dude is awful!!!
