"A New York Treasure" --Village Voice

Home for the Holidays

Dellin Betances, the kid from Brooklyn, signs with the Mets. I know he is a risk—big, tall guy and all—but he is a home town guy and he’s never played for anyone in the majors but the Yanks.

Maybe it is smart that the Yanks didn’t keep him, that I can’t say. I say that I will miss him. It stings imagining him having great success with the Mets. Still, hope things turn out well for him. He had a memorable run with the Yanks.

Hope you are all well. Sending best holiday wishes to you and your loved ones.

We pretty much nailed the expectations, the only surprise was that it’s with the Mets; especially after they all but declared themselves out of the bidding. Talk on the airwaves was that he’s building a house in Jersey; it would be pretty tough under his circumstances to uproot himself and family; again I’m surprised the Mets actually made a smart deal (two in a row if you include reworking Cespedes’ deal). Is that Beltran pushing for a former teammate or is the Cohen deal coming more into play? I can’t believe for a second the Wilpons would have even changed their minds after walking away, much less approve a sensible deal.

Good luck to Dellin. Yeah I'll miss him, but this is a business

I'm going to miss him, when he was 'on' he was as dominant as anyone, and he seemed a great dude. Good job by the Mets.

I feel bad for Dellin. First his Achilles and now the real kiss of death, the Mets signed him. Still only a 1 year deal and maybe he figures it out and comes back to the Bronx in 2021?
