Don’t Make Me Laugh

I don’t know about you guys but I just don’t see a season happening this year. And if it does, I am not sure how much of it I can stand—no fans in the ballparks, constant worry that the players will expose themselves to the novel coronavirus. Things have been so strange this year, why not just pack it in and hope to start fresh in the spring.

Much as I love watching baseball I can’t say I miss it. Things are just too weird to allow myself the escape of watching a ballgame. But that’s just me.

Hope you all are hanging in and doing as well as can be expected during this cockamamie moment in history.

Thanks for the new thread, Alex. I'm thinking that MLB will try to start, but won't get very far. I think teams with major numbers will be forfeiting games. I like the idea of playing most in the same time zone. But the virus is still here, and they won't have a "bubble."
Since TV money seems to be the issue, maybe they can just do a tournament-style program, sort of "September Madness" with all teams participating in a best of 3 until the final 4, then best of 5.

This is such a strange time! (And PS - sad to see the minors closed for the year)

Apparently some players have been playing in Fla. I’m optimistic. But it’s going to be such a strange season.

YES had a 90 minute Summer Camp show tonight. I watched about an hour. Batting practice, interviews, the studio and booth crew waxing poetic. No Kay which is always nice. A handful of players shagging with masks. Most on field were without. A bunch of news about no high fives, no chest bumps, managers nees to stay 6 feet away when arguing with umps, pitchers won't share baseballs, etc....Good in theory but my optimism about a season is Fucking zero. Sigh. Then they had a big remote show with Meredith M, Paul O'Neill and Cone detailing the Subway Series. That was
fun.

I feel the same way. Try again next season...

I wonder if I can get a refund from MLB for the season subscription...

Yikes.

Looks like it's not too bad though. Whew.

[6] Yeah, I don't want a repeat of 2019.

I really hope that the Pirates beat the Jaguars in the World Series this year, but they might have a hard time getting past Chelsea and Aris Thesselonika... maybe the MF DUCKS will give them a run.

After all, if you're gonna go stupid, you might as well go ALL THE WAY stupid...

It's criminal that the MLB is trying to have a season with COVID-19 numbers skyrocketing in many major cities. Sorry, for being frank, but the USA is broken and baseball ain't gonna fix it.

On the other hand, we have baseball in Japan with empty stadiums and cheering robots. I watched a tight exciting, see-saw battle the other night and was reminded why I don't watch Japanese baseball. It was all locked up at 4-4 going into the 11th and they called it. That was the game. Final: 4-4

I’m optimistic. But I have no problem if anyone wants to sit out. If Trout wants to leave and not come back after his wife gives birth, that’s fine, even if the Angels make the World Series.

There’s a thread going on about which catcher should be in the hall of fame or go in first: yadi, buster, or mauer.

I think the answer is VERY easy: Thurman Munson

[12] Just read that..there isn't going to be a season, is there? Madness to think they can continue.
Stay safe everyone in the US, so worrying to watch the whole country sinking while we move (closer) to normal over here..

14 Boatzilla   ~  Jul 12, 2020 7:30 am

[13] Well, define normal, Jazz. We are getting more daily COVID infection numbers than when they shut everything down. Yikes. At least we have baseball.

So no Chappie, no DJLM to start the "season." Red Thunder is hurt again (shocker).
