Best for Last

Our good friend Ken Arneson has the last word–okay, many words–at Baseball Toaster.  And that’s as it should be.  He was the head, and we formed like Voltron around him.

It is a sprawling, ambitious post that is followed by an engaging comments section.  If you’ve got the time, I suggest checking it out.

And don’t forget to turn that radio dial.

Incredible piece of work. I had thought he was depressed at first, but I think the piece in its entirety really speaks for itself, and it's not at all depressing. I wish him well in his future endeavors and especially with his family.

And yeah guys, you really should turn the dial...

Go say thanks; we owe it to Ken, for sure.

(And, yeah, the dial is cool.)

For those who are interested, I posted a final Top 100 Toaster Posters here:

First FJM, now this. If it keeps up I'm gonna need actual live baseball games to get me through the day.

[3] Stoopid economy!

BTW, Ken's put up a list of the top posters on the Fairpole post, ranked by number of objects created (wee, I made the top 50! >;)

[5] [6] I am amazed that I came in at #40. But let us give due recognition to RIYank, who came at #18 (10044), and after Alex and Cliff, was highest of all the regular commenters. (Apologies if I missed someone.)

Speech, RI! Speech! >;)

I wonder how many of Mattpatt's 9977 involved Pavano. 50%? [8] That's a lot of >;)
; )

I'm shocked I even made the list. I'll miss the Toaster, I loved the whole setup of that site, I still like that beige background better than this one. Maybe I'm getting nostalgic in my old age.

I feel guilty

I came in at #30, although my earliest posts were under MiddleagedYanksFan. Mattpatt and Willaim came in at 19 and 21 (although mostly complaints against Cashman), monkeypants, mehmattski, cult of basebaal, stormer sports, sliced bread, thelarmis (bum da bum bum), schteeve, Simone (where is she anyway), dianagramr and wsporter round out some of the regular (and older) Banterers.

Anyway, if they give awards for posts, that one by Ken deserves one of the top ones. Pretty amazing.

Wow! I had no idea!

I proudly accept the honor, and, I would like to share this (especially with our resident musicians):

[12] Complaints about Cashman? Heck no...after all, I am actually Brian Cashman ;)

[10] I miss that beige background too. I also like being able to use formatting without having to remember html.

I wonder if Paul O'Neill is ok with me finishing #21...I'd hate to be booed if I am lucky enough to get tickets to Opening Day. Still, it's nice to me immortalized in such a fine way!

[13] I come in at 46. I guess I'll have to give it up now that Andy is back in the fold. I'd have posted more this offseason, but I was dealing with the fallout from a ahem...hormone situation.

17 Shaun P.   ~  Feb 5, 2009 11:52 pm

[9] I would guess there were more Farnsworth-related posts than Pavano ones, but they might be equal in number. ;)

[5] wow, sooo cool! i'm honored to be in the top 100! and, '73...well, let's just say that's a good year to be born! ; ) i think i acrued many of those posts this past postseason, holding down the fort! i woulda had TONS more, but i was shy and just read the banter religiously for a coupla years before posting. the toaster was real toasty and comfy and i'll miss it.

THIS post was typed in NY! i'm home visiting my grandpa and glad to be here...

oh, and props to underdog!!! takes LOTSA constitution to come in at #3 over there! he's about the best of the best of non-banterers from the toaster and i hope to catch up with him at some point via one of these baseball sites...

19 monkeypants   ~  Feb 6, 2009 5:25 am

[12] Where is this list? I can't believe I ended up on it. Then again, considering my productivity the last few years, maybe I can believe it.

20 monkeypants   ~  Feb 6, 2009 5:30 am

[17] Aha, found it. #39. Woo-hoo. Game threads really add up, I guess.

21 Bama Yankee   ~  Feb 6, 2009 9:34 am

What? I didn't make the list? I guess there weren't as many of those Karim Garcia and Andy Phillips references as I thought... ;-)

22 Simone   ~  Feb 7, 2009 11:01 am

I'm 75 on the list. Yeah, me. Thanks, Ken.
