Yankees brass apparently reads the Banter: Nunez sent down to AAA, Chavez activated, Nix remains on the roster (presumably to play every position?).

2 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 6:09 pm

Inauspicious start.

3 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 6:10 pm

3 pitches in - with King Felix on the mound - could the game be over already, gulp?

4 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 6:14 pm

[3] Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

5 randym77   ~  May 11, 2012 6:17 pm

WTF. Down a run already?

6 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2012 6:17 pm

[4] Knowledge is Good.

For such an awful team the Mariners have three must-see guys. Ichiro, King Felix and Jesus...

7 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 6:18 pm

[4] Nothing's over until we decide it is! Who's with me????

8 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 6:20 pm

Yankee brass not the only ones bothered by the E-Nunez.

9 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 6:23 pm

A first inning run!

10 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 6:27 pm

(4) (6) (7) My apologies to all - I was remembering the game two seasons ago where A.J. gave up 3 runs to the first 3 Seattle batters and I had to decide between walking out of the stadium at possibly the earliest possible time in history (wonder if there's a Guinness record for that?) or stay and watch the King proceed to stifle the Yanks, which of course he did.

11 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 6:31 pm

[10] An A.J. start? I heard there's support groups for those who watched them live.

12 Alex Belth   ~  May 11, 2012 6:32 pm

Smoak hasn't exactly been great since the Cliff Lee trade, eh?

13 Alex Belth   ~  May 11, 2012 6:33 pm

Nice job, Hiroki.

14 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 6:34 pm

(11) No shit - despite the vow I made at an earlier AJ game that year, I vowed never to go to the Stadium when AJ pitched - when I broke that vow again in the ALCS against Texas, I knew I was fucked for life - and I have been.

15 Alex Belth   ~  May 11, 2012 6:36 pm

16 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2012 6:36 pm

That's right Teix, you show the King we Americans don't care for royalty.

17 Dillon   ~  May 11, 2012 6:44 pm

Montero already sporting the seemingly requisite post-"Yankee Facial Hair Rule" goatee.

18 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 6:47 pm

Zeroes are good.

19 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 6:52 pm

I'll miss Nuney. I'll just have to go out and buy a new pair of boots to honor his demotion.

20 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:03 pm

[19] Boots?

21 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:03 pm

Oh, boots, got it. Doh.

22 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:05 pm

Maybe I'll get a pair of mittens.

23 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:08 pm

Time to test Montero's arm?

24 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:08 pm

My god, that was so dumb. Holy cow.

25 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:08 pm

Fuck... with no outs you stay at 3rd.

26 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:09 pm

Well that's a complete and utter waste. Shite!

27 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 7:09 pm

Damn.

28 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:12 pm

[21] Exactly. : )
Alex risked the guy wouldn't catch it, peaked over his shoulder to see if he caught it, then kept going. It should have been all or nothing. Terrible.

29 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 7:12 pm

I wonder if Alex's going had anything to do wtih his knowledge of the Yankees' shitty RISP?

30 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:16 pm

[7] i'm with you, RI!

31 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:17 pm

It was just dumb. You have to be really sure you're going to score to do that. If you're thrown out you give up about a run and a half (compared to staying on third); if you score you only add maybe .2 runs to your expected yield.

32 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:19 pm

[30] Good! So let's do some kind of meaningless, pointless gesture!

33 Chyll Will   ~  May 11, 2012 7:21 pm

Anyone have any idea what a criminy is? Is it related to cripes?

34 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 7:22 pm

I don't understand why Seattle always sucks yet they keep kicking our ass - is that a form of AHDMLB?

35 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:25 pm

[34] Well, we were 5-4 against them last year. 6-4 in 2010.

36 Chyll Will   ~  May 11, 2012 7:25 pm
37 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:27 pm

[36] i prefer jesus fucking h. christ! : )

then again, i'm a long-haired jew! ; )

38 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:27 pm

Nice. Good job, Hiroki!

39 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 7:28 pm

(37) Any gentiles on this website? Not that theres anything wrong with that, of course.

40 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:29 pm

nice work, hiroki

41 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 7:34 pm

[39] I am.

42 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 7:35 pm

(41) Good shabbos

43 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:36 pm

Great Captain at bat. I like Cone for a variety of reasons. But another one is the more he talks the less I hear Kay.

44 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:36 pm

Awesome walk.

45 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:37 pm

[39] Irish. : )

46 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2012 7:37 pm

Michael Kay spoke with Vin Scully? Umm...that's not right.

47 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

[36] As in 'We never should have traded Criminy Montero'?

48 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

[46] A cat may look at a king.

49 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

That was outside!

50 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

[44] cap's now 5th on the yankees list.

51 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

I doubt we'll see another MLB triple crown.

52 mhoward120   ~  May 11, 2012 7:39 pm

(46) Scully musta thought he was talking to Mrs. Kay.

53 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:41 pm

So.... MKay and Company went over the 'Nunez Situation'. Any opinions? I say 80& to build his confidence, 20% because last night made them sick.

54 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:42 pm

I guess it's a law that as soon as you leave then Yankees, so must grow something on your face.

55 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 7:43 pm

sigh...

56 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:43 pm

71 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:58 pm

RAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL!!!!!!

i like to call him the 7-string guitar. you know, Ibanez.

72 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:58 pm

[70] i like that. he looks like a Dino.

73 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 7:59 pm

welcome back, eric!

74 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 7:59 pm

We have outbursted!

75 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:01 pm

[71] Explain.

76 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 8:03 pm

[75] Ibanez is a very famous brand of electric guitars. mostly rock and hard rock players. (the absolutely incredible) steve vai made famous a 7-string guitar which is now popular with the "nu" metal bands, i generally don't like.

but the name Ibanez (with an American pronunciation) is part of my everyday lexicon since i'm a kid. my big brother is/was a shredding rock guitarist...

77 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:03 pm

Dang, missed Raul. Had to let the dogs in.

78 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:05 pm

[72] Years ago in SI they had a lookalike picture of Darryl Strawberry and Dino the Flinstones dinosaur. It stuck in my brain. Raul reminds me of both of them. Hence, Dino : )

Perfect peg.

80 Mr OK Jazz Tokyo   ~  May 11, 2012 8:07 pm

[76} Nice, thanks for explaining that! Think Raooooool is a metal head? Kind of looks like Rob Halford..

thelarmis, I'm going to the "Time Slip Travel" rock and jazz bar tonight. Will send you a review off line!

81 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:07 pm

Beauty.

82 thelarmis   ~  May 11, 2012 8:07 pm

GO YANKS!!!

83 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:08 pm

[76] Gracias.

84 Chyll Will   ~  May 11, 2012 8:13 pm

[77] Ummmmm... who let the dogs out?

85 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:13 pm

Watch your lips!

86 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:13 pm

Charlie Brown!

87 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:14 pm

There it is!

88 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:14 pm

[84] Woof, woof, woof, bark bark.

89 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:15 pm

Bleg.

90 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:17 pm

Regicide.

91 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:17 pm

So who pitches the 8th? I do not like a no Mo experiment.

92 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:18 pm

[91] I figure it's D-Rob + Sori, but in which order??

93 Jon DeRosa   ~  May 11, 2012 8:19 pm

Shouldn't the Yankees be stealing every time they are on base? After all, the Yankees are more convinced than anyone that Jesus Montero is not a catcher.

94 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:19 pm

Dude is on fire. Robbie!

95 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:20 pm

Good base running.

96 Chyll Will   ~  May 11, 2012 8:21 pm

[92] D-Rob, then Sori. It can't be too long ago for Sori to remember his closer instincts. The Hammer needs to apprentice a little longer.

97 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:22 pm

[92] No Sori tonight, 3 straight days, sorry. Boone?

98 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:23 pm

[97] Really, three straight? I forgot. Hm. Maybe Kuroda starts the 8th.

99 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:24 pm

Teix should hit 9th.

100 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:26 pm

There's you're answer. Clay in to walk Ichiro.

Don't mess with Alpaca Yard.

102 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:27 pm

Right, this is why we need 17 pitchers on the roster. See?

103 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:28 pm

Ah, mix 'n' match eighth.

104 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:31 pm

I'm glad Rob is on our team.

105 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:32 pm

Phew, almost thought we'd have a reliever go two hitters.

106 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:32 pm

Man, we have 2 BB and 12 hits including a homer, but just four runs.

107 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:35 pm

Can't argue with that.

108 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:35 pm

Girardi is feeling pretty smug about now.

109 Chyll Will   ~  May 11, 2012 8:35 pm

[106] Blame the economy.

110 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:35 pm

[106] Josh Hamilton has more home runs than the Padres

111 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:38 pm

[110] Wow!
That is very cool.
Babe Ruth did that kind of thing, but nobody since.

112 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 8:44 pm

I smell SWEEP!

115 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 8:44 pm

Save the Bones! No Doubter. Whoo-hooo!

116 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 8:46 pm

It's only 38 AB, but Damon has a .416 OPS.
The guy must be thew worst contract negotiator in history.

117 OldYanksFan   ~  May 11, 2012 8:48 pm

Has Raul won a game with every HR he has hit? He has 16 RBI in 78 AB.

118 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:49 pm

[111] Didn't some of the 1980s Cardinals teams have very low HR totals?

119 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:54 pm

Cheap hit

120 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 8:56 pm

[118] 58 in '86, very good. 71 in '88. 67 in '82.

121 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 8:59 pm

[120] Thanks. Was wondering if a player would lap them.

122 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 9:00 pm

Nailed 'em.
Welcome back, D-Rob!

123 rbj   ~  May 11, 2012 9:00 pm

Yankees win! Good night all.

124 Ara Just Fair   ~  May 11, 2012 9:01 pm

Nice win.

125 RIYank   ~  May 11, 2012 9:01 pm

[121] Yeah, nobody in that era, I don't think. But those totals are in fact numbers that single players have beaten in other years, that's why I listed them.
