Damn, he'll be here almost as long as the previous Joe.

He is a good guy and may not win as many titles as Torre, because it was a different playing field, with the Yanks checkbook being able to fix a lot of holes quickly and Steinbrenner would never let a budget get in the way of a possible championship.

Girardi's youth and passion for the game might see him pick up a couple more rings, but I think the Yanks are 2-3 years away from fielding another contender. The Cubs will likely have a wait until they get a ring under Theo too.

Good deal for both sides.

Despite his flaws (let he who is without one have somebody cast the first baseball at his head), I'm really glad Joe is coming back. One of my favorite pictures is on an SI cover, framed on the wall, of him looking at Mariano at the conclusion of a winning series. He knows baseball, he can deal with the crazy NYC press, he seems to be able to coexist with management, and if there is anybody who can train the next crop of Yanks-to-be in the sense of professionalism that has defined Yankee wins over the past decade or so, it's Joe.

Let's all go out and buy new binders to celebrate! I'm down with Joe for another few years.

Screw the binders. I figure part of the contract was that he'd get an iPad. I'm imagining Theo offering him one and his eyes kind of lighting up, and then he says to Cashman, "Yeah, I dunno, Theo showed me this iPad," and Cash says, "tell you what, Joe, from now on every member of the Yankee coaching staff gets and iPad," and Joe smiles. "Tony's gonna like that."

[7] Ipads over binders. That's crazy talk. Let's update the dugout/bullpen phones first. ; )
